i get tears in my eyes everytime. i grew up in London but moved north. people think Londoners are affluent but took some pals down to the capital and showed them people sleeping in cardboard boxes under railway embankments. it is the greatest song i have heard, i can just see the old man in the all night cafe not knowing what the next minute of his life will bring, so sad but so true.
And he wrote this in 1968, and while I've only been to London once (in 1987 - I'm in Aus) I imagine things were worse then. So priveleged to see Ralph in concert here in Aus !~20 years ago.
When you see the poor, the LORD tests you at that moment. Prayer is free. You can ask a blessing upon that person. Or help. Or both. The World says, "TAKE", JESUS says, "GIVE". Bless the LORD, oh my soul.

I live and lived there, and the streets of London a beautiful and brutal and not changed much sinch this GREAT song was written.
