Indeed. Jealousy is divisive, I don't think it was any different than a parent bonding with a child who is most agreeable of the bunch. It was a human thing to do, and although wrong... not hateful. What was done to Joseph was hate filled with free will. When faced with the simplicity of love or hate, those who act on hate have committed themselves to something that will consume them.

It was wrong for Joseph's father to favor him over his other children, his brothers were understandably hurt and upset.
