I have the same optical scale but a 3 axis display - I can't seem to get the find reference feature to work. I've emailed their sales / support but I suspect these optical scales do not have the optical mark to trigger the R1 signal. I'm thinking of adding precision ground hard stops on the ways and use those as origin instead.
If you followed the instructions that came with the unit and it doesn't work likely they didn't write the code to include that/those features. The initial setup you mention, do you mean the menus to set encoder type, resolution, etc? What exactly flashes when you try to load the menu? Is it the axis values that increment 11111 to 99999 or what is shown each time the unit powers up?
I sincerely appreciate your putting up this video. My scales do the same thing and I suspect that they are too cheap to have the reference mark. Do you know what the LEF_AB, or FIND AB mode do?
Hello, I know those glass etched scales are NOT absolute scales so it has no way of the DRO knowing the position if its turned off and machine has moved. Absolute magnetic scales are a lot more expensive. Also, when you are entering your tool X axis, pressing 1. and enter, its thinking your entering 1mm as 1mm=.03937 inch..I would have to play around with mine, but you might need to press in/mm again before entering in inches?
Steve W the scale does not have to be an absolute type to be able to reference and index position. And I believe the inch/mm tool offset data entry was actually off by a factor of 10. Either way it’s still useful though less so.
I will probably order those scales since theyre dirt cheap and use them with easson dro units. It should work right? I will probably buy the easson es12b since having the previous version before. And it was a great unit.
Hi, yep it’s still going, no technical difficulties to speak of. However I haven’t used the TLO pretty much at all despite that being an initial intention. I seem to recall difficulty working with referencing tools. But I just use the different work offsets instead, which seems to work but also has some non idealities, I believe. I think though you’ll probably be pretty happy with it 👍
Not using the advertised reference/index function. So for the machine coordinates I just move the axes to the most positive position, X++, Z++, and zero out there. Work offsets are shifted from that point. But yeah, other than a hard stop no way to recover position after power cycling.
I don't haven't a clue what you are doing. Just running up & down the scale. I can't hear you at all even with my hearing aids in. mumble/mumble. Please explain what you are doing & why. Push, push, pushing buttons is confusing & mostly I can't see what button it is that you are pressing & why. It's all too fast, especially for us older folk. It's not an iPhone. Let's start with the basic. An explanation of what each button is & it's drop down Menu. Turning on the Machine, Some say push the Dot for three second others say push the dot for 6 seconds, inside one second from switching on. After that all the uTube Video instructors start poking buttons at a furious pace. Then, I'm lost. I tried working it out myself on the machine but get lost immediately. Help!
I'm sorry that you are having problems with your DRO. All of these import units can be very frustrating to figure out, as the documentation is not clear and understandable in English. Though there are many different brand names, I believe that the hardware and software is the same or at least very similar. Most, I believe, are made in ShenZhen, China. The one I have is different than the one shown in the video, but the Start Up routine is identical. To get into the Settings menu, turn on the unit, and during the Start Up routine, while its beeping, press the dot button, or press and hold. You may also be able to do the same with the ENT button. My manual says that an additional menu can be accessed by pressing the mm/inch button 6 times during Start Up, but I cannot get that to work. I hope you can get your unit working as they are extremely useful, even if you use just the basic functions. Regards.

Just got a set like that, can't get into "Initial Setup" when powering up, everything flashes past really fast. Any tip.

@@matter9 Thanks for the reply, getting a full refund.
Hi do you have idea where to find the linear compensation parameter?

For the money they’re tough to beat. Much nicer than dials and dealing with backlash comp, but also rarely do they deliver all that they advertise
i just ordered a similar dro. do you like it and is it still going strong?

Spencer, did you ever find a solution to your reference issue?
