- When Gary Moore left Thin Lizzy in 1979 during a US tour, Phil Lynott was not amused. The pair fell out and didn't speak for three years. Now they're back together, and have recorded a new song; Out in the Fields. How did that happen?
Originally broadcast 7 May, 1985.

Phil Lynott has got to be one of the coolest rock stars in music history
Он уже давно и является одной из САМЫХ КРУТЫХ РОК ЗВЁЗД мировой РОК музыки.
Agreed I think he was the original Cool Cat lol
Totally agree 😊
Not really
I met Phil and Snowy in 76 I was a kid walking down the street with my dad. Dad said ' do you know who they are son?' and they stopped and Phil lifted me up. He said ' respect your Dad and live your life kid' I had no idea who they were. But dad had a camera so I have a precious memory
Snowys wife was my teacher in the 70's.
He used to wait for her in his green mg sports car
Amazing!!!
Where are you from ?
Greece..
Greece
Two geniuses, when they worked together it was like magic. The Black Rose album is a masterpiece.. Having grown up on these guys music it was so impactful and influential.. RIP... Phil and Gary...
Cool...not listened to black rose yet...been loving renegade...thunder and lightening etc...been listening to Gary's solo stuff today aswell...v cool...out in the fields or whatever...awesome..
The 'Black Rose' album completely blew me away as a 14 year old and I still listen to it today. Lizzy made a lot of great albums, but it's the best one IMHO.
Amen to that!! Gary had the ability to play like a monster and/or be very fluid in the same song. I love how Phil presented "Whiskey in the jar" for the rest of us. The Grateful Dead did it as well, but it just didn't sound like the way Phil presented it. He was such an underrated vocalist!!
@@grobbler1Wow, I heard it at the same age! There was this DJ at a local station that had a Sunday night show of nothing but hard rock, the emerging "metal" music and so on. One night he played the entire album with no interruptions! Loved it!! Saved my allowance and mowed a few lawns to buy it, lol!!
@@iamnotpaulavery You've got good taste.
God bless them both. RIP. Fortunate to have seen both in ‘75 and ‘78 together.
What a fantastic couple of experiences. I'm just watching the Sydney performance. It brings tears to my eyes.
I saw them both separately but still cherish the memories
Phil was the MFN GOAT. I swear, you guys think I'm crazy. Can you name a better rockstar than Phil Lynott?
Yea Gary Moore
@@ITheNightmare Your spite exposes your deep-seated hate and divisivness very well. Phil is the man
BEST FRONT MAN EVR!!!!!!!!
I know I can't
Your mum.
There’s 1 million songs about love and break ups and all that kind of stuff but there is only one song about the boys being back in town ♥️The song implies that the boys once left town 😢
Phill is just so cool
Not my idea of cool
@@jamesjameson4566Just shows that you arent ;)
@@silure9502cool comment 😂
@@jamesjameson4566Me neither.
@ppo2424 that's your problem
Fantastic Musicians and well respected in their native Ireland.
Gary Moore is buried in Brighton & Hove village just next to the sea.
I live in hove. I never knew that. Thanks.

Gary Moore was from Dundonald and Eric Bell was from East Belfast. The two actually knew each other and I think, Eric Bell recommended Gary Moore, not sure if that's accurate! Both were phenomenal guitarists! In the video for "Out in the Fields" there's footage of Gary Moore walking around burnt out houses in Belfast!
What a team, great lyricist and phenomenal guitarist.
RIP the lads
Sad to think that a year after this interview the legend, Phil Lynott, died on my c-sectioned removal date of January 4th, in 1986. ✌️☯️☣️ Thank you for all the beautiful art and your soul to grace us in general you beautiful fellow Irishman.
Do you mean giving birth by Caesarian section? strange definition using 'removal'.
@deborahhenderson149 Indeed, you had read it trithfully forthright. Well, to inform you on the subject matter. A procedure "C-section" tis in fact, the act of an unnatural, surgical fetus(es) removal(s) taken out from what a once was hosted bodily flesh wombed prison.
@deborahhenderson149 Therefore, a removal is not an act of giving a true birth, nor an natural birthed existence into punishment.
Still can't believe Gary's gone .. the greeny keeps his memory well in the spot light
Gary is and will always be one of the greatest
Rip legends
They will be remembered as legends
"Out in the fields" 100% ❤
Absolute monster rock song

Ah miss these guys so much.Brilliant guys rip lads.
Love Phil. It's beyond me how Gary didn't get more recognition
So happy to have lived during their time to listen to them live and to see two of the greatest musicians of all time in my lifetime. R I P GUYS 💔💔
Two Irish Legends💪🏻💪🏻🇮🇪
Very sad just to see Phil’s face again heartbroken the way he left this world so young and so much talent 🙏🏾😔
Love them both great Irishmen
The Boys are Back in town again.
There was no hate between these two Irish artists. They where friends from a young age, teenagers in Dublín and I was blessed to be a part of that scene. R. I, P.. Phil Lynott and Gary Moore.
The boys are back. Brilliant music and wonderful memories. RIP
as an american thin lizzy never got enuff recognition over here
great music
Love these 2❤️💜❤️💜
Heroin. What a waste.
Was really Alcohol that killed him
Alchol killed moore
@@GIGI-lp1gcTrue, but the reason he left the band while on tour like Phil says in the interview was actually down to Lynott and the other band members scoring heroin while touring the US. The party scene must have been pretty “unconducive” to making music so Moore packed it in and went home. It’s such a shame because when you listen back to Lizzy tracks today they are so well put together that they really shine.
@@GIGI-lp1gcI think the comment meant Phil's dabble with heroin
Two of the coolest guys ever. They are both just so laid back. Did Gary ever play with Jeff Beck? Wow I really like Thin Lizzy. These guys have a great sense of humor. Very down to earth.
How cool and talented those guys were. RIP.
Phil is a one of a kind legend. The real deal.
If they would have stayed together the music they would have made ..wow
They made up a world beating guitar and music writing combo, if Phils addictions hadnt hastened the demise their impact on the music and rock performance worlds would have become more evident to everybody. Loved them both, together and individually.
RIP Phil and Gary, two amazingly talented guys!! They left quite a legacy. When my son and daughter, particularly my son, would go through my record collection, they both loved these two magnificent musicians! Gary is one of my many influence that molded my guitar playing! God bless them both!
Both legends. RIP 🙏
I saw the band perform in Vancouver as a warm up for Queen, approx 1976. I was exhausted from the noise of the two bands.
Oh Lord absolutely amazing 🙏🏽🙏🏻 love these two ❤
The only issue I have is that these guys aren’t in the HOF.
Sorry. Not as good as mad donna. Biggie. Or m and m.
Omg, both of these gentlemen...the best ever. Wild Frontier and Dancing in the Moonlight. Love and miss you always. ❤
Both was a great personnalities 🕊️🕊️
The best ever !!! ❤️ 😢
Two legends...
Two of the best Irish musicians
Lynott had a tremendous voice, and Moore was a great guitarist..
You just cannot beat the Irish sense of humor. Unbelievable.
You are both missed.
My friend and I used to drink with Phil Lynnot on Sunday nights in The Bailey pub in Grafton Street, Dublin. But we didnt equate him with Thin Lizzy until we went to an outdoor rock concert up the County where Thin Lizzy were playing ..... at which point we said "F***ing H*ll, look who it is! He was a lovely, lovely guy!
RIP Phil and Gary
I’m beyond words! What talent!
Rocking away in heaven..Gary and Phil...
One of Ellies fans favorite rock n roll interviews
Absolute legends both of them
Thin Lizzy Live n Dangerous was the best live album of its Day
Mega band especially great solo,s from all the lead guitarist who graced the stage with Brian Downey n Phil
Still celebrated today on Phils death anniversary in Dublin every year with GIG at Olympia theatre.

I meet Phil shortly after this interview... then a few weeks later he died
Irish legends
My to favour irish music icons
Phil would use the stage lights to hit on his mirrored bass guitar and light up the girl that he wanted the crew to give a backstage pass to😂
ПОКОЙТЕСЬ С МИРОМ РЕБЯТА ...АНГЕЛЫ ИГРАЮТ ВАШ РОК ...
Expected Gary to have an strong Belfast accent.
That scarred face just says rock and roll 😂
True mates fall out but become friends again
Gary Moore, what a great! Bro that hair?
If I’m not mistaken ‘Phill’ bass player died in ‘Jan 84’
If only.
