I have been building these kits for over 30 years but still pick up tips from you please don’t just leave them in primer don’t let the haters and jerks mess it up for the rest of us. Thank you for keeping this hobby alive!
My dad drive trucks for 40 years. I started build them when I was 13 now I’m 58 and still build models. And RC Planes. The kits were around $20 back in the early 70’s.
Nice build great presentation, for those that do not know, this is the ITALERI peterbilt 378 kit just repackaged, that is a Detroit Diesel Series 60 500HP motor, I love Revell AG and ITALERI truck kits.
I really don't know how I didn't watch this video before! Sensei Christian I bow before you! It is a lovely truck.....not only a model but a truck. What a beauty in 10 wheels. Absolutely gorgeous. Rhank you for such a beauty you've created.
i've been a model builder for most of my life. i can say without a doubt that this kit is the most detailed and beautiful rig kit i've ever seen. can't afford the big rig kits but i can see the reason for the cost here. great job on the construction.
I’m a heavy truck technician. Long nose Pete’s are my favorite to do engine work on. So much room. You did a great job on this build. Thank you for sharing.
I built this kit years ago but it was by Italeri. What a beautiful kit. I did the box image which was metallic blue with the silver stripes. I'm OCD so there was not one of the beautiful details left untouched. It looks like the real thing. Was definitely one of my favorite kit builds.
Excellent job there Chris the Peterbuilt tractor looks fantastic I am a retired tractor trailer driver and the video gives me the itch to want to drive again thanks for sharing!!
This is a beautiful tractor. This looks like it went together trouble free but you are an expert. I did notice that you left off the two convex mirrors. There also are no cb antennas. I purchased two kits. I want to make one look like my personal 379 and I also purchased two amt reefer trailers that you built. I hope mine come out as close as yours did. I'm amazed at how easy you make it look to paint and build. I'm going to use the little tricks you showed us. Thanks for sharing your technique and builds with us you are the man at building.
Another awesome build Chris! My favorite detail is the grille. I wish EVERY model kit had that mesh screen and hollow grille trim for that authentic look. You can actually see the radiator through it like real life.
You mad a point there, My dad worked a Good Year tire mill for 30 years. Rubber is grown on trees in Hawaii and is trucked to mills and its either in Tan or White. The mill runs it through the die house to make it black. True story.
I used to build big rig kits. If you watch big rig rolling interviews stretched out long and low tractors are popular. My favorite kit I did was a cab over Freightliner that I stretched the frame from pieces from other kits pulling a cattle trailer.
One of the reasons this kit is so nice is that it is not an AMT kit, it is a reissue of the Italeri 378 kit that they have been making since 1997. It has been reissued several times and this is just the latest and it is done by Round2/AMT. Italeri kits are always great kits, lots of details and always go together very well. BTW, that is a Detroit 60 series engine. Each engine maker has its own color. Thanks for the great review. I will be getting one soon.
I'm working on the rig myself, and using a nice blue color, its a very good way to work with your hands to pass the time away, when you want something to do
just want ya to know that just by watching you, I have learned a METRIC TON of painting techniques, I feel confidant that I can try one similar to your technique.
You make model making looks easy and relaxing, its so inspiring especially for people like me ( or maybe others) that love plastic model building as much as hate to spends alot on material (paint, detail kit etc.). I see you using all purpose paint which are much cheaper and also using amateur style painting straight from the can without decanting for airbrush etc. and still looks good, watching other channel looks superb but also intimidating (for me). Your model building videos are really inspiring sir.
Thanks for all the kool videos Chris it's raining here in Georgia too i'm working on a 150 57 black widow car cut the doors and trunk open on it doing a prostreet car
A tip I learned years ago for rough primer is to rub it down with paper, like plain printer paper. Use it like sandpaper, but it won't ruin details. Awesome build!!
this is a Detroit Series Sixty powered truck. AMT usually does a really good job of getting details correct, but having driven several Peterbilt 379, 378 and 359s over the last 30 years, I see stuff that is incorrect, and drives me crazy! but, as usual, a great build. You do great work my friend!!
I've picked up a ton of tips from watching your videos, but by far my favorite now is using mod podge for clear parts. It's by far and away the best thing I have ever tried for clear parts, and my local hobby lobby sells it in a "drip glue" type container.
The video was great I had really wondered how I was going to put the cab and the bunk together watching your video was very helpful and it helped me build one of the best builds I have ever done Thank You wish I knew how to post you a picture
I am going to use this one for my lowboy with the dozer. I have had the same issue with the primer on a few builds. I wet sanded with 400 grit with very light pressure. Works out ok. Beautiful build.
I have an Italeri Ford Areomax that I hope to get built soon. Hope it turns out as nice as yours. I have never used spray paint like you do. Even with an airbrush, I run into problems though. Great job on that build.
With the glass parts I dip them in futura floor wax. It covers any imperfections in the plastic and are perfectly clear. Never tried modge podge. My wife has that for her crafts so I will try that. Nice build. Love that red
It looks fantastic! I like the satin finish for the frame as most trucks I have seen have this type of finish on them unless they have been in service for quite a while. Thanks for sharing this review.
Ugh. Just when I thought I finally saved enough "kit budget" to get me the 1/16 Revell 359, AMT comes up with this Peterbilt beauty. Choices choices. Very nice one, and beautiful build. I don't can't/mind/see the paint issue you're talking about, truck looks awesome.
Great video and model. Think I’ll get one to put together. But I have a question not really related to this video. When doing a two tone paint job, like a white top and green body, how do you get the residue from the tape off the white paint that you masked off to paint the green body? I don’t want to use something that would ruin the white paint job?
Another beautiful big rig build they are my favorites and love seeing how you detail them been putting some of your techniques to use. Can't wait to add this kit to my stash so I can finally do the correct Black Dog truck build.
I’ve noticed that this is the only truck to have a Detroit 60 series instead of a Cummins NTA855 Big Cam or Cat 3406A/B IDITA/DITA. I love buying center parts and customizing 1/32 scale and other 1/24 scale trucks. The stacks from a 1/24 or 1/25 look great on the 1/32. Sea foam green works for the 60 series Detroit but we have one at my FD that is all black with a silver valve cover

You need to build one of the Moebius International semi-trucks. If you were impressed with the fit and finish on this Italeri kit, you will be blown away by the Moebius !
Chris, that was an excellent review and build on the Peterbilt 378! You can tell this was the original Italeri Peterbilt 378 molds. All the same parts. I built a couple of the Italeri kits back in 2002. I know what you mean about the grey primer being bad. I recently had that issue with a can I bought. Keep up the good work Sir!
I always have trouble with the tandem tires and wheels going together in a glue model, not snap. You have a video on how to glue the sets of tandem rear tires and wheels together if they have the wheel lip? Great video's, keep em coming.
Great build , i went and bought this kit everything was going great till painting . I used the rustoleum and it bubbled and cracked how can I strip this paint off ?
Nice build! I like what AMT did with the decals, I hope they get more kits like this in the near future. I have built this one and modified it to look like a short hood 379. I painted it like a vintage Laidlaw tractor based on some internet pictures I found. I was a bit mistified with the multi piece cab at first but it did go together perfectly. It is a great kit to build honestly. Good job with yours by the way.

Cabover is even better.
spencer s me and my dad are fixing up a 1987 freightliner cabover. It’s going to be my first truck when i start truckin
Used to make 3 n 1 kits. Saved the extra parts and soon manufactured a semi scratch build before truck kits came out. Was a success.
This kit is an AMT re-box of the Italeri 378 kit with new decals. Hence the 1:24 scale and multi piece cab.
Holy cow the amount of detail on this build. Looks like the real thing
Thanks, much appreciated!

I have built this kit when Italeri released it. A great kit. I left the cab roof removal, so you can see the interior.
i figured it was an italeri kit just by the tires and silver molded rims!
Love the Peterbilt build Chris. Thanks for sharing.
I'm building Revells peterbilt 359 right now. Having a great time building it. Awesome to see you building AMTs.

I always have trouble with the tandem tires and wheels going together in a glue model, not snap. You have a video on how to glue the sets of tandem rear tires and wheels together if they have the wheel lip? Great video's, keep em coming.
Glue the rims together, let it dry, then push the hollow tires over the wheels.
