A few years ago in Australia, I drove on the Stuart Highway that crosses the country south to north, from Adelaide to Darwin. I was driving my Defender 110 north towards Alice Springs. Heading south was a convoy of Army vehicles on exercise. Amongst the long line were Land Rover Perenties. Lights were flashed and waves were exchanged. It's a Land Rover thing!
I just hope they are as keen to acknowledge you when you break down. I broke down 50 km east of Three Ways ( Northern Territory Australia and no mobile connection) in my Toyota Prado ( Turbo failed) and before that oncoming cars were keen to wave. When I broke down all I felt was the draught as they zoomed past me. Two weeks after being towed to Darwin and $6500 later a new Turbo was fitted.
I was looking it up earlier. There are lots of players on the table from around the world, but nothing solid yet, it seems. The new Defender isn't the same kind of general purpose utility vehicle. Other roles, maybe?
I don't /can't see that new SUV as a Defender.. It's like calling Salmon a Tuna. Both fish, but not same.. The Great Pretender, the Offender, is more of a suitable name for it... Very pretty, very capable, but not a farming workhorse, a safari vehicle, a game viewer, or a no nonsense scratch and bump me truck... Should have called it something else, and not fu¢ked up the legacy and history of the one and only real Defender... Real Curry wagon, Curry Rover, Tata Cruiser, Tata Tata... 🇿🇦
4:04 I didn't know this, so looked it up. TROJAN is a "combat engineering vehicle" based on the Challenger 2 tank chassis. It has a hydraulic excavator arm instead of a turret and can have a mine-clearing blade on front. This bridge is 13 feet 9 inches wide, and the Trojan is 11 feet 6 inches wide, although it can be wider if extra armour is fitted.
If this is an exercise, wonder what would in reality be in the truck ? And are the Land Rovers supposed to be "Force Protection" . . . .or has somebody just decided to take the vehicles for a joy ride over Salisbury Plain just to give the squaddies something to do and stop the engines seizing from low use ?
Always thought it was a shame how few Land Rovers were in the US! The Discovery and Range Rover is well liked there, but I believe the original Land Rover / Defender had some kind of legal issue with it?
Doesn't it make you proud of Tony Blair and our present government? to see all those lovely Indian and German vehicles. It's funny I have watched the French army and they have French trucks, The German Army has German trucks, The Italian Army has Italian trucks.....of all of NATO the UK buys in trucks, because Blair destroyed our ability to make military vehicles.
Hi I recently was told by a friend of mine that an agent from the UK that was trying to sell him a weathered/waterproofed WOLF Land Rover told him that the ‘wolf rim’ the ANR4583 is NOT the ‘original’ rims but were first introduce in Iraq during the gulf war. The original he was told is the ‘blindo rims’ (the one you would find in a WMIK). Is this legit?
A joke using Land Rovers British army equipment is a joke need lot more better and this needs better tanks as well with China and Russia iran north Korea
Must be a civvy since you’re spouting all that. Land rovers are still used in non-combative areas, well behind the danger as there’s still many of them. If we want to send soldiers into a dangerous area if they aren’t in a warrior or in the future boxer, they’ll at least be in a foxhound armoured car. We are also getting challenger 3 which is significantly upgraded over the challanger 2 which has seen combat and the only loss has been by friendly fire compared to plenty of abrams lost.

The terrain is suitable for showing the reason why Land Rover still in the top of off-road vehicle
Yup, these are a proper off roader.
I wonder what they'll replace these with. The new Defender is a luxury SUV in disguise.

One well trained infantry lad ...take a coulnm out ., SAS ..proven
Australia replaced their Land Rover Perentie with G wagons, as we already use MAN trucks I wonder if the contract will go to Germany?
I own both. Both are excellent vehicles in their own way. Both are very capable off-road. The new one is better on road by a country mile.

At least the Landy is easy and simple to fix, ask the Australians how easy the G wagon is to fix compared to their outgoing LR Perentie.
