I always thought of this song as something poking fun at “Here Comes the Sun” by the Beatles. Keeping the same upbeat music and tempo, but with more bleak lyrics. It stands in its own as a great song though!
Lyrics: Who loves the sun? Who cares that it makes plants grow? Who cares what it does Since you broke my heart? Who loves the wind? Who cares that it makes breezes? Doug Yule did a lot on Loaded: He sang lead vocals on this song, Lonesome Cowboy Bill, New Age, Oh Sweet Nuthin', He played drums on nearly half the album, played all the bass tracks, played all the piano/keyboard parts, harmonized and arranged a chunk of the songs, oh, and he played ALL the guitar solos on the album. Funny the way Reed tried to minimize Yule's contributions over the years, when in reality he's responsible for 85% of Loaded (save the lyrics and Reed's Guitar parts).
@@jaydenwhitlen1489 Dream Letter is wrong 100% about everything. It's on the record in an interview that Yule did: olivier.landemaine.free.fr/vu/articles/lowdown/lowdown.html
Sterling plays on Loaded, but went back to college at the time & left Reed & Yule to handle the bulk of the arrangements. It’s on record, so feel free to Google it.
Doug does some great vocals on Lou's songs. I think he didn't always understood the lyrics, as he was more of a melody guy, but it's sweet, and Lou knew it would work. Candy Says is also a sweet vocal, but the topic was a bit upsetting to many, including Doug.
Lou was at the pinnacle of his great songwriting around the time of VU’s third album and Loaded. He basically recycled the leftover songs from this period for the most of 70s musical output.
this shows that lou was a professional songwriter for pickwick records. as far as i can remeber, they told him to write 10 surf rock songs. because the market needed surf rock at that time. good job, lou. do i hear some beach boys?

I like the gentle side of The Velvets

No one suspected that Lou was an a-hole. He blended in with the New York scene.................
R.I.P Lou Reed this is one of my favorites.
I'm Never tired of hearing this!!!(Album version, Cover version, alternate version or live version) Great song, great album and great band!!!
Lou was at the pinnacle of his great songwriting around the time of VU’s third album and Loaded. He basically recycled the leftover songs from this period for the most of 70s musical output.

Favourite version.

He called it their "Beatles song"
Jonathan Thompson Totally sounds like the Beatles and Turtles combined

Perfect for Valentines Day.
Love it. Thank You.
Kinda like this version better. Seems more Velvet Underground-esque, if that makes sense.

I feel like Ambulance LTD were heavily influenced by this. What a masterpiece
This is great but why is it impossible to find the original on RUclips

Who loves the sun ? I love a velvet sun !🌅
Buy it
It blows my mind that the same people who made this track also made “Sister Ray”
not exactly
Not the same band members
So good
I love Lou & Doug
I love the moon 😆
good one
Sounds like Don't Panic from Coldplay's song
This came out first
I'd say don't panic sounds like this 😂
So great!
This song > all
The Mamas And The Papas would have done a great cover of it although they’d make it sound a lot like Young Girls Coming To the Canyon!!
His lyrics very good. 💋.
just doing my due diligence

Nothing wrong with a little Turtles/Archies bubblegum harmony.
Actually perfect for banter over the pop music of the time
Check out Guster with Kevin Hearn of bnl. They do a great little set with this song in it. Another great tribute!

Came here from American Gods
Neil Gaiman knows his songs ❤️❤️
American Gods xD
yh, me too, just doesn't seem like something mad Sweeney would play
JB brought me here
I like the Deep house version of Who Loves the Sun......Its way sadder
JenTyme Well just remember who wrote it. Nothing wrong with liking a different version better as long as you dont insult the original/writer.
+natetheguitarkid not sure it's really even possible to put the writer down in this case ☺
JenTyme sadder the better dude. X
Nah.
anyone figure out the chords at 2:09 ? kindly post.
Yes but Lou didnt sing it
Jamie Macfadyen Lou Reed wrote the song
I lived in Wales 🏴
John Cale is so obviously Welsh accent here
Sorry Taffy but Cale isn't even on this album nevermid this song. That's Douggie Yule and he's from Stateside ya'll.
its like george singing
SellMe YourSoul Harrison? Because it’s sounds a lot like it
don't believe it's them.....
why can't find the original? just another awful cover?
This ain't a cover, buddy. This is just a different mix that's like 20 seconds longer.
Yes but Lou didnt sing it
I didn't know that. You're absolutely right though.
Jamie Macfadyen He did come in at the end for the harmony (bass) vocal, bah bah bah bahh
