Michael Biehn: Beyond the Guns & Glory

  • This is the career story of Michael Biehn. Over many years, the actor played numerous roles, but he is primarily remembered for his collaborations with director James Cameron in films like "The Terminator", "Aliens", and "The Abyss", as well as his villainous role as Ringo in the cult western "Tombstone". While the subjunctive mood doesn't exist, Biehn had opportunities to further his career. However, a series of poor decisions and unfortunate circumstances prevented him from appearing in films like "The Usual Suspects", "Alien 3", and "Avatar".

Hicks and Reese were written to be subdued and not to overpower the female action lead, and while he was good, those roles aren’t as memorable as Arnold Sarah Connor, Ripley or Bill Paxton.
Don’t get me wrong, he is important in three of the best movies ever.
But John Ringo was ever bit as memorable as anyone in tombstone and that is saying a heck of a lot.

Kyle Reese is easily my favourite movie hero. I saw "The Terminator" when I was Eight (the Eighties were wild for a kid), and I'm sure it's had a foundational effect on my view of being a human, especially a man. Reese came through time for Sarah, and that has always struck me as something so beautifully noble and romantic. I love a tragic hero, and Kyle Reese is the best of them. Hicks rules too obviously. Micheal Biehn helped shape a lot of childhoods.

Everyone remembers Ripley saving Newt, but we can't ignore the fact that it was Hicks, who most certainly saved Ripley, and in turn saved Newt, by giving Ripley the crash course in handling heavy weapons. Hicks also gave the tracker watch to Ripley, which she gives to Newt and is able to track her till the alien nest, with Newt's terrified screams leading Ripley the rest of the way.
Long live Hicks amd thank you Mr. Michael Biehn!

Its too bad, because yes, his prime time should/could have been the 90s (just like van Damme). However, the man has nothing to prove.

But Cameron wanted Reese to have a "neutral" american accent. After Biehn noticed that he was still talking in the southern tongue, he got rid of it real quick and said that it was just for his role in a play.

I've met that man 3 times in my life. He gave me 2 autographs for the Terminator and Aliens. I also gave him an outline for an AVP script that he wanted to read (Mostly because he wanted to know what was going to happen to Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lance Henriksen, and Bill Paxton in that movie). It was nice to see him all those times, and I wanted him to autograph my action figures of him...IF I ever saw him again.

Nice guy. Saw him talk at Detroit comic con last May. He did a huge monolog, with no notes, that was cut from Tombstone. He got into character, you could hear a pin drop by the end.

Michael Biehn is a really nice guy. I've met him twice and he was great both times. The second time I met him, his wife was at the convention, and she was super nice.

He is number one on my list of extremely under rated actors! I rate him along with actors like Sam Neil that just dont get the respect and roles that they should!!

Don't forget K2, The Lords of Discipline and there is another movie where his name or Alter-ego is Edy Kaye, unless the Latter is already on this list. Underrated actor. The man did have a stroke in 2008.

I noticed him for the first time opposite Wesley Snipes in The Art of War. The greatest gunplay scene that gave birth to every modern gun fight after that.

If they'd made 20 more action films with Michael Biehn as a protagonist, I've have pay money to see every one of them in the theatres. Despite its flaws, I liked The Rock chiefly because he was in it.

Criminally underrated. I knew he fell off when I saw him star in a Hong Kong action film. He said that it was the most terrible experience of his life because HK film makers shoot quick and cheap and don’t make plans. Here’s a story, “ Well, they didn’t have catering. They would run to a restaurant and get you cheap noodles. I asked for coffee and my assistant actually got me a can of grounds Folgers coffee.” He snapped and threw the tin can at the assistant. The movie is called, “Dragon Squad.” (2005)

Michael Biehn is one of those underrated actors who always delivered a stellar performance in several movies that are immortalized in pop culture.
He also seems like a great guy. I recommend watching his interview on Michael Rosenbaum's Inside of You podcast. He revealed that he had a stroke and terrible bouts with alcohol.
Great content in this video. You all have earned yourself a subscriber. I look forward to what else is in store. ✌

Thanks for subscribing!!! We have ready a content plan until the end of the year and even a bit more ;) So we really hope you'll enjoy the following works. Sometimes it will be about someone you like, sometimes not, but all these acotors will evoke nostalgy for sure!

I saw Timebomb recently and absolutely loved it. It's a smaller-scale "Bourne Identity" a full decade before it was made. however,, despite a smaller budget, it still delivers on the action. Plenty of fight scenes, car chases and gun shootouts. Beihn does a lot of his own stunts too.
