I’ve been following your work since back in 2015/2016’ish when you were still doing Remix-covers & dude your growth since that time has been exponential. You’ve taught me so much these past 6 years and I’m grateful 🙏🏽 you got a lot of character too, just rewatched “Free Guy” and realized that was you in the intro 🔥 keep it up chief.
When I watch your videos I don’t feel like I’m just watching a tutorial. How detailed you are, I get a full understanding as to why you adjust the settings the way you do. I appreciate your uploads always. 💪🏾
This guy is 100% right. Probably the most important four tips. I've been home studio recording since 1985. Took me years to learn this. Take his advice.
Can't thank you enough! Nobody does it like you do. Mixing to consistently compete has kept me at an undesirable level for years (in my eyes). Steadily gotten better but not at the pace I would like. Watching your videos are not only connecting the dots mentally and process wise but you always tend to add even more insight as to what is going on. I never knew there were so many ways to create headroom. I purchased a couple of plug-in's recently and it's made a big difference for my low-end and overall mix. I'm just anxious to learn more techniques that will eventually become natural in my process. Really excited to hear how my sound improves! 🙏🏽
Im just guna keep commenting cause your videos are exactly what I need. I personally make synthwave sort of music but each time I walk away from you videos, I become better equipped. Never stop!
Great content. I’ve been watching you for 3+ years. Im 19 I stopped attending a music college because your content & material is more helpful. You helped me grow and learn a lot about mixing and mastering plus more
thanks you for showing all the cheat codes, you show me that the only thing that stop me it’s my self, thanks you for teaching us every single thing you know
thank you so much Devvon you always have the best tips. Here are some tricks I just learned from a famous keyboard player, Sidechain compress reverb sends for keyboards. So the reverb is pumping, it sounds cool. compressor after a reverb then a sample sidechained into the compressor either with the kick pattern or any pattern works. Just using a muted aux track to send something to the compressor as a trigger. Also... pitch shift the reverb send up a 5th, another trick that sounds really cool. And compressor after a reverb send with fast release on the compressor so when you play the keys hard reverb is not there as much but when notes are played softly the reverb comes out, it is a neat effect.
When Devon teaches referencing, I always love Devon mixes better than the referenced track, especially the references in this video. Thanks for pouring out yourself.
Great tips i didn't know which im going to try. Makes sense as to why i still thought i heard low end freqs in the car even after cleaning up the vocals and etc.
Very approved tips, even tho I use all these I still love seeing and hearing how others do it too! Def always more to learn! I find it hard to mix in other studios until I have worked in them 5+ish times/sessions. Best case scenario is 3 or 4 days tracking like 3 or 4 tracks, then starting on some mixing. Every once in a while there's a room that feels right the 1st day but most the time I feel like the rooms and speakers almost sound too good! I wld love to have some genelecs or some small nearfelid speaker that I cld bring to any session with ease right!
Devon please please, make a detailed video showing how you connect your outboard gear to be used in your DAW.. I appreciate what you doing for the music community.
this vlog was the best of all when it comes to music production, very detailed almost perfect not like others only for views and it is fake tutorial anyways thank you so much you made my day.
Thank you sir!! But we need another one of those live mixing streams again were you mix everything, I'm talking instruments, vocals and drums. I see you've got new tools as well.
Give us the full blast. I've been rolling off the low on my verbs and echo's, but the high's not so much, it really tames the tails in your example. Good stuff. Any suggestions on EQ'ing the Parallel Compressed channel, leave it flat or copy the "Master" instrument Bus, or hard cuts to highlight a particular frequency range (low Mid's / High Mid's).
Summary: 1.Cleaning Up Effect Sends: When using reverb and delay effects, it's important to clean up the effect sends to free up more mixing space. Using an EQ to roll off low and high frequencies in reverb and delay effects can prevent muddiness and enhance clarity in the mix. 2.Parallel Compression: Parallel compression involves blending a heavily compressed version of the original signal with the dry signal to add power and energy to the sound. Different parallel compression chains can be created for various elements, such as vocals, instruments, and drums, to enhance specific parts of the mix. 3.Reference Mixing: Reference mixing is the practice of comparing your mix to a professionally mixed and similar-sounding reference track to ensure that your mix holds up in different listening environments. Choosing a reference track that matches your mix's style allows you to assess the balance and sound quality of your mix more effectively. 4.Analog Saturation: Analog saturation emulation plugins add harmonics and color to the audio signal, enhancing its overall tone and character. Analog saturation can provide warmth, depth, and excitement to the mix, making it sound more dynamic and lively.
This may sound crazy, but um your track sounded better than the reference track. That is mind blowing, you can tell by your skills you've been doing this for quite some time now I salute you homie
Hey Dev, been applying your techniques for a while now so always appreciate the content. Just an FYI, the EQ on Pro R is already Post reverb but there's always more than one way to achieve the same result.

You should try Heat inside of protools just activate it and adjust setting in mix window and its all built in
That first tip is elite 🔥 I wasn't doing this for so long and wondered why my mic sounded like 💩
