+Gospel Nostalgia I like the older songs, they are written with a story behind them. not to mention the old songs sound better then all this mess thats on the radio nowadays.
Ledisi and Mahalia Jackson are from the same hometown of New Orleans, Louisiana. A state rich in culture, music, food and history. So yes, it took someone of the stock to sing with such emotion and with The Spirit. Ledisi did an awesome job.
Today i woke up n wanted to give it ALL up. I have 3 children. im fighting a case that carries 3-9 years, i got an eviction notice this morning n i have nobody by my side but Jesus. i just ask somebody to continue to pray for me.
+laron woods no matter how bad things appear.....you have three very specific & unique reasons to stick around....your children.......the may continue to go on but they will never emtionally heal if yout take ur life and continue to ask themselves what they did to make you want to leave them!!!!......i don't need a crytal ball to assure u that things will get better!!!
She captures the soul , the spirit, the love, the prayer of the song and uplifted and encouraged the hearts. anyone listening to her singing could feel the power of it.
OMG....i have heard many renditions of this song covered by many different artists but this has to be the most heart felt & moving renditions.....she nailed it!!
Sent chills down my spine. Beyonce did this song no justice. She just doesn't have that soulful voice. The voice the that make you stand up because you just can't sit down. So much talent.
Doesn't matter what vessel He chose to use or which listening audience you belong to--this song is Powerful and Many people received the message. To God be the glory!
I think this is a beautiful version of this beautiful song! I found it because I was telling the Lord that I feel weak and tired of dealing with the cancer that I have. This is giving me back my spiritual strength. Praise God and thanks UTube for all that you do!
Precious Lord, take my hand Lead me on, Let me stand I'm tired, I am weak I am worn Through the storm, through the night Lead me on to the light Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home When my way grows drear precious Lord linger near When my life is almost gone Hear my cry, Hear my call Hold my hand lest I fall Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home When the darkness appears and the night draws near And the day is past and gone At the river I stand Guide my feet, Hold my hand Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home
Oh my goodness! This woman can sang! Beyonce has no business trying to sing this song at the Grammys. They should let Ledisi do. You can feel her soul in this. Wow!
Kre8iviT27, I agree that Ledisi is a cut above when comparing the quality and depth of vocals. However, Beyonce has the attractive and exciting brand and clearly people can't separate packaging from quality of contents sometimes. I've witnessed people give "juice" to their children and wonder why their teeth are rotting. They were under the impression they were giving the kids 100% juice when the packaging said 100% vitamin c. True ingredients were water, high fructose corn syrup, artificial flavoring, vitamin c, & red dye made from cochineal bugs. People go for the packaging over the substance every.single.day. Country wouldn't have an obesity epidemic if we went for substance over packaging, taste, and instant, easy gratification. That's why Beyonce can be used to reach said demographic (Let's Move!). IJS.
And it's so much more believable because everything Ledisi does is so classy. I can't believe someone who sings about grinding on a man's wood piece out one side of her mouth and singing this gospel spiritual out the other.
Ledisi sang so beautifully. I wish she had the opportunity to share that with the world. We know all too well what Beyonce can do on stage. Ledesi would have delivered the message. Maybe they can duet on oscars..
She kept the song the song...true to it's origin and truly honoring the sound of the great Mahalia Jackson. Sung beautifully!! A the melody...in the spirit of this amazing singer - one to the other. Thank you Ledisi !!!
She would have brought the whole block down, let alone the building. This is how it should be sung. Still sends shivers up and down my spine. Song just freezes the soul.
But instead the Devil wit the blonde wig and white dress demanded it be her to attempt to deliver and in my opinion failed. Ledisi 4sure wouldve demolished it.
Sweet Jesus!!!! A voice like no other. This song literally makes your soul stop whatever it's doing and it........just...........listens. This isn't just a song, it's a journey.
The scene where this is sung is my favorite one in Selma. When Mahalia Jackson starts, "Precious Lord," I lost it and bawled crying. Dr. King's weariness and pain being comforted with the truth of God's grace in song--we all need that, frankly.
Prayers for you Pamela that you will be healed in this year of God's Restoration. I pray that Christ Jesus will take your hand for providing good health and Many other Blessings. Amen.
MY DEAR Ledisi you are superb period.!!!!!! beyonce my respect for you is gone.Your at the top of your game , you could have let this young lady shine.
Viewers, I've listen to others Gospel singers sing this particular song for as long as I can remember . However this Women can sing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if only it took a song, to get in heaven then my "GOD" with her singing the gates would be open. I must get off, the Lords knows the song has cause me to brake out in hives its so powerful. Peace thanks you tube and Mr. Gospel Nostalgia . Mrs Gwendolyn

When I heard this version of Precious Lord in the movie, Selma It shock my heart and brought tears to my eyes. I reminded me of the many times I heard it in the Baptist church I grew up attending. #power I was disappointed to hear that Ledisi didn't get to sing it. I hope she'll sing in March when she's in concert in Atlanta.
I had to here for myself what was all this talk about Lendisi and Beyonce. I can tell you right now If Lendisi was to sing this song to many people would have gotten saved in that place and via web and TV cells and all. Lendisi has a real gift wow she can sang!!!!!!
Im a white woman but come from a family of musicians and singers. I am the age of Oprah Winfrey so go and figure!!!.....I loved Gospel music from a very young age.......and to this day I still enjoy it.........You cant beat black women in particular singing......well I cant and that's for sure.!!...Bless you sisters and brothers.......hAllelujah Amen..
For all those people saying "get over it, they asked Beyonce to sing it over Ledisi for a reason" need to get there facts straight. Beyonce personally asked Legend and Common to open their performance with this song. Knowing very well that it was Ledisi who recorded it for the movie. They said yes to beyonce because they felt like it was wrong to deny her of anything. Beyonce didnt even ask Ledisi if it was okay, she just did it. That in itself shows how disrespectful Beyonce can be. She should apologize to Ledisi for taking her moment. You would think that beyonce's abundance of fame and success, would not have her needing to take away the spotlight of others. Simple
In my opinion, Ledisi or some one with a soulful voice should have sung this song on the Grammy's, Beyoncé is a good singer/performer but when it comes to soulful songs, there's only certain people in the music industry who can rightfully sing it the correct way
i love gospel music grew up listening to it, When Ledisi sings this song you feel her heart and her soul in this song, shes not show boating it, shes imagining her self standing in front of Lord singing this. Its a very beautiful song and i believe beyonce was show boating this song and this song doesn't need all of that.
You know what... They didn't let Ledisi sing this at the Grammy's because they wanted to keep things "light"! LOL If Ledisi sung it, err'body would have been in tears, church, repent, and all that. They didn't want to take it there. So let the commercial lady do it. JS
Your right... they would have needed the white sheets and the mother of the church... with the fans and box of tissue.... somebody would have taken off running up the rows with waving hands....im just saying.
honey...most people at the Grammys don't even believe in God. You are delusional. They chose the commercial lady for ratings and because she plays their game, not to keep things "light". Most people watching the Grammys either don't go to church or hate black people. Get real.
@@zahraaesmael342 That's true too. You know those devils can't have the divine spirit of God in their home. Hence That's why they had Illuminati Queen Bey to perform LEDISI's performance. Baby, Bey COULD NEVVVA sing that song with such conviction like Ledisi did!
Everytime I hear her sing this song tears fill my eyes. My God. my God there is a certain spirit she has working in her that reaches beyond all human boundaries that goes straight to the heart. Wow. Mahalia she did you justice I have to say and Mahalia Jackson's NUMBER 1 fan.
I would have loved to see both Ledisi and Beyoncé perform this as a duet. Both are amazing singers. Don't understand why people are trying to put them against each other.
So what... why not ask her to do it she's im town already and Beyonce wasn't gonna be there til this... Ledisi is the likeness of Miss Mahalia Jackson so that's why I said what I said #myopinion
Great Song and a Great Movie, I lived through those 60's and was confused for even though I had no African American Friends or Neighbors or School Mates --- I knew about the Constitution, Declaration of Independance and the Civil War -- its like some Hated for No Reason -- May God give us all the ability to Love the Lord our God with all our heart, mind, and strenght and to Love our neighbor as we Love ourselves -- Let us do this Quickly
Absolutely beautiful this singer that I just saw on the Norman Lear 100 birthday celebration. She sounds like the Late and Great Queen of Gospel Sister Mahalia Jackson. Absolutely Beautiful 😍❤♥💖
WOW just listened to this. She blew BEY out the I don't know what. Beyonce I thought sounded great, but I am not least bit surprised that Ledisi didn't get to sing the song at the Grammy's. These award shows are all about bringing in RATINGS and MONEY so of course they would choose BEYONCE to do it over Ledisi.
Her vibrato is stunning. The dynamics she produces in this song just sends chills through me. I love me some Bey, but Ledisi is winning me over even more with this song, and may I mention that I love her song "Pieces of Me."
B. Knowles is to Ledisi what Elvis was to Sam Cooke: a shallow, spiritless, industry-pushed version of the deeper waters of real soul. The industry (and its social media trolls) can try to push this booty-shaker down our throats, but the truth keeps rising and speaking for itself. Gospel music emerges from the Holy Spirit and it only touches when someone WITH that spirit shares it. So, yes, anyone can (try to) sing it, but it will be as moving as a corpse.
Ledisi sings this song like she lived it. The words come from personal experience and struggle. The listener identifies this a soul because this is where it comes from. Beyoncé was merely going through the motions; imitating what she think is soul. Once the listener scratched the surface, there was nothing there, no feeling, no experience. Kinda like having cake with whipped cream frosting instead of the real stuff...
tniaa77 I disagree with you.. it's not insulting at all that Bey will be performing this song at the GRAMMYs. This song isn't ledisi's.. many before her have sung it, but then again it really wouldn't matter if it were her song. Whomever made the call that Bey would sing it at the GRAMMYs apparently didn't want Ledisi to sing it.. they wanted Bey. Common and John Legend were happy to have Bey apart of it and so do many others. Ledisi was chosen to be on the soundtrack.. that seems good enough to me. She's getting her shine.
Thisis not Ledisi's song..its a church hymn thats been here for more than 60 years and that could and should be sung by anybody given the chance to..this is more than Bey or LEDISI..it doesn't matter who should be singing..its about HISTORY...there's no need to create propaganda as if someone owes or stole anything from Ledisi....The Grammy tribute is about creating awareness PERIOD!!!
I dedicate this son to my grandmother, the late great Evangelist Barbara Jean Wilson. She loved this song and they played this at her funeral. After hearing this, it made me remember my love of Negro Spirituals. R.I.P Grandma Barbara, I love and miss you. 11/28/1939-2/28/2015
It's sad to see grown people tearing down artists just because they didn't enjoy a performance. Of course Ledisi would've done an amazing job singing this at the Grammy's because her voice is suited towards gospel songs. I felt like Beyonce may not have performed as well as Ledisi could have, but she still did a great job. In saying that, Ledisi wouldn't be able to perform as well as Beyonce singing a beyonce song. Instead of tearing down beyonce for performing this song, why not support the reason for this performance, as well as Commons and John Legends :)
I don't care who sings this song... To God be the Glory! He should get all the praise! Its all about lifting Gods name up and about His greatness. Not about Beyonce's or Ledisi's. Though I don't listen to either of their music, this is such a great song.
Necies Vlogs After seeing this movie I had to get the soundtrack. Some of the songs I already had because they are from back in the day.
Yup, isn't it beautiful? My favorite song is glory, but they s one is quite inspiring as well :)

But she doesn't have a gospel voice
But when u hear this girl sing it makes cry
Though I don't listen to either of their music, this is such a great song.
last song Martin Luther King Jr wanted to hear...
