- "Long, long, long time ago in the Dreamtime,
the Balladong people, the tribe of the Nyoongar people,
there was a great explosion,
as the earth was being formed.
Boyagin rock erutpted and out of the rocks came the Waggles - The Giant Rainbow Serpents"
The Trails of the Rainbow Serpents is a Aboriginal Dreamtime story which discribes how the Swan River and other West Australian waterways were formed. Everett Kickett tells the story of the Waggles: The Giant Rainbow Serpents with sincerety and flare to two young Nyoongar boys. We learn about the Waggles habits and the impact early settlers had on Aborigine sacred sights. And all this is accompanied by a beautifully, yet haunting soundtrack composed by Derek Rucki.
I am very honoured to have known Everett and still treasure that day we had with this truly humble and amazing storyteller. Our trip to York, where we filmed the documentary, is one of mine and my partner Cheree's very special moments in life. May this story and Everett ripple on through the ages of time.
Peace!
