My P90 Harley Benton Tele hums on the bridge and neck position, but the hum goes away when you're in the middle position. Might need shielding. Btw, I just subbed. Anyone who mentions their cat during a guitar review gets subbed. Rocko's Law, I think he calls it.

I’m going to see what happens in the middle position. Such a shame that their guitars get shipped with that kind of flaw. Also, my 4 Paw’d overseer has informed me that Rocko’s Law requires me to sub back.

@@thetattedbaldguy Its strange because with mine the noise is very low on the Neck, then a little bit more on both pickups and the most on the bridge so I think something is wrong with the wiring because it should cancel out the noise in the middle position???

I have this guitar and the tuners hold extremely well on mine. Only issue I had was a couple tool marks that I don’t care about, and the nut is too high for the first fret and it causes some intonation issue. I’ll fix it soon.

It’s a shame how they make such a great instrument and then drop the ball on the finishing touches. You’re absolutely right about the tuners though, they’ve held tune surprisingly well!

@@thetattedbaldguy oh and I also forgot the board was really dry and the frets scratchy. Got that taken care of on about 10 minutes tho and now the board looks great and the frets are pretty smooth. Fret ends were surpassingly good. No need to file them at all. For the price I really can’t complain. Beats the hell out of buying the squire baritone used. I was considering the gretsch as well, but I hear the pickups are quite weak and difficult to replace, due to them being mini humbuckers…also $600.

Hey man, I gotta say I'm glad I decided to pick one of these baritones up. Aside from the pickup hum, it's a killer instrument, especially for the price. Damn p90s.....

Nice man! I’m glad you like it. I hear ya on the noisy P90s. There’s actually a pretty cheap noise suppressor on Amazon for like $30. Works great, and helpful for noisy pickups. Nothings worse than that hum when you’re trying to play right chugs with pauses

@@thetattedbaldguy so I'm a pretty big dude, like 6'9" with some pretty large hands, so being my first baritone, I'm definitely feeling it. And wouldn't you know I put a schecter baritone on my wish list 😎

I got one today and yes this thing is very very noisy! Like you said maybe the pickups are kind of microphonic or the overall electronics are pretty low quality so I guess I have to replace them first. And then maybe shield this thing. The frets are very rough and the fretboard wood is dry like a 50 year old nun! The leveling is pretty bad and the tuners are made of plastic. The price is superb and with just a little bit of work and replacements this Baritone can be a very good instrument so I guess I keep this one :) Cheers

Good sir, you win the award for best description of a dry fretboard. Haha. Such a shame to buy a new guitar and then have to put all this work into it right out of the box. But, like you said, when it’s all done, you’ll have a great instrument. If Firefly ever rereleases their JA Baritone, I highly recommend giving that one a look. Cheers, my friend

a lot of the HBs with black hardware have the noise issue, try scraping a little of the paint off of the bridge where the bridge ground wire connects and you might save yourself some of the hassle.

@@lolnoscoped6230 Ok nice tipp thanks but the one JA Baritone BK I have is weird anyway because I think it has a different wiring. In the middle position the hum is not canceling like it should normaly but somehow it sounds way better than the regular one. I know this because now Ive ordered a second one and at the moment I have two of the JA Baritone BK. The first is noizier and without hum canceling but sounding much clearer. If the fretwork would be better on this guitar I would keep the first one :)

It's the p90s that the hums coming from they are just noisy pickups ingeneral unfortunately but they sound killer nonetheless

This is my first guitar with P90s and it’s taken some getting used to with reducing the noise, but you’re exactly right. They sound killer. Just did a comparison with my Firefly baritone and the Harley Benton came out on top

@@thetattedbaldguy not as of yet. I have a 1987 Charvel Model 5 I’ve had for 30 years, a special Gibson/ Epiphone Les Paul natural blonde bird’s eye maple/ mahogany that I’ve had for 22 years, and a Samick Greg Bennett black beauty LP custom type model (He was the luthier for Gibson for years) that my Dad gifted me. It’s really hard for me to find a guitar that I’m completely comfortable playing, so I stick with what I have. I’ve owned and sold: a B.C. Rich Warlock Platinum Series, an 80’s star type Kramer, a USA Jackson Rhodes, and a duplicate Charvel 5 that didn’t feel quite right…I could go on, but I don’t want to bore you. You seem to have an amazing collection!
