Greetings Nick...if i might suggest something....if you ever wanna try this again, try it with some gelatine added to the water before you freeze it.....it might set when cooled down again...so it might give you a less melted result!...awesome experiment!...loved the vid!...keep it up!
The ice melted due to the exothermic reaction of the resin setting. Placing it in the pressure pot ensured that there is absolutely no space around that water. Because of that, the water itself can not move at all. If you did a larger cube with glitter frozen into it, then you would be able to quantify the movement of the fluid trapped within the resin. Still an amazing project!!
yup... a great project for that would be to freeze small plastic fish, grass, etc. and the stick it in the resin and when it done you would have a small [snow] globe/terarium type of thing. might need to use salt water or something so fish don't just float to the top.
People act like two creators can’t have the same idea and do similar types of projects. Especially because Nick said people had asked him about ice in resin. Both Ben and Nick did cool videos, no one stole anyone’s “idea”, chill tf out. Great video, Nick! The end result was pretty darn cool.
I was afraid you’d get too close to the green and it would all pour out and make a mess. Then I started to wonder about a similar project. Could color tinted resin could be “injected” into almost cured resin to create separate pockets of color? It could even be added to layers one by one to make a larger piece.
Yes! Watch pour your hear out lady in Australia does amazing things by waiting for resin to set up and gets amazing results by being able to actually control the resin
When you put the ice into the resin, it quickly cools & hardens and then becomes encapsulated. That's what made it float, even more than the less dense ice already would've done. I love trees and kept imagining myself weighing down the ice bubbles with a branched bit of wood to make a fantasy bubble tree. Loved this project, Nick, as well as the movie references! You're a stitch! (Of course its water bubbles, hon! The ice is long gone!😉)💕
I think the pressure was key to this working out. I've seen Ben's Worx do ice in resin too, but his showed it clearly melted in the pocket, but I don't think he put his in the pressure pot. Yours looks great Nick. :) Fun to watch.
TECHNICALLY, if the water were under the right pressure, it would be solid (ie. Ice) above 0C. But water is one of those weird ones, where it actually takes LESS than 1 ATM to reach solid at higher temps, and while the addition of the alcohol? dyes mess with that, I just don't see it LIKELY that the "ice" is still "frozen" in this case. But NOT impossible.
Never fails...about to put my phone down and go to bed...and a Zammeti video....so, yeah...bed times are for suckers anyway...right?😁 Edit: so going on this idea...if you made odd shaped ice, like with crazy ice molds, and pushed it into the resin like you did here, you could build crazy starscapes and nebula. Even throw some micro glitter in the resin first. It could look really awesome. I think I need to try that. Thanks for the proof of concept!!

I am a water child (Pisces) so anything featuring water or bubbles is a THING for me. This sculpture is quite lovely with the colors and bubbles that are accented with light. You keep surprising us Nick, we need it. Keep doing you! That Texas Gal!!!
So I guess we've learned that freezing water leaves it solid long enough that it doesn't prevent the resin from setting up like the orbeez did. Can you freeze orbeez? This has a lot of potential. You can make custom ice forms. I'm also thinking about how flowers sometimes get moldy in the resin and if freezing them would prevent that. Or what about resin snow globes.
The flowers would definitely still mold. Dry them before putting them in resin to prevent this. Maybe try using a dehydrator on its lowest settings (to try to preserve color). The reason flowers and such mold in resin is because of moisture; freezing them will not remove the moisture. The ice in this obviously is liquid, like the blue ice cube that floated to the top of the second layer of resin. The reason it still LOOKS like ice is that there wasn't air trapped between the ice cubes and the resin. Usually, if you add ice to high heat, when it melts it almost instantly becomes steam (one of my favorite ways to steam veggies; high heat, layer of ice, garlic, vegetables, cover tightly, and keep the pan in motion), however, the changing stages of the ice was trapped within the viscous resin, not allowing the ice to turn to steam. You notice this the most with the orange ice, because it definitely melted quite a bit and shifted around into an amorphous blob rather than holding shape, as the resin wasn't quite as set that early on.
I can't believe this actually worked... But it looks amazing especially with the light. That will take real work to top, so go to work and top it. Keep us on our toes! Until then have a great weekend y'all!
This is very cool ... I fully expected them to melt .. I guess the resin cured immediately on touching the ice ... preserving the shape ! The end result is a stunning unique lamp never could be replicated gorgeous Nick ! 😍🙌🙌
Aww man I was shouting at the screen every time you said "It is ice" haha. It worked a lot better than I thought it would, it looks like you timed it perfectly but as others have said it definitely isn't ice. Puncture one and the water would flow out :D Great experiment though, nicely done.
Loki is right. Bens Worx already has done this experiment and it worked out great. What I gather from his experiment: adding salt to the ice cubes will stop them from floating. Hes tried salt in water ballons in resin. Hoping for another Nick video. Get better soon Nick. Your nose sounds so stuffed.
My own thought when I was watching him make the ice in the first place, was that the addition of fishing weights, ball bearings, marbles, bb's or the like, would be what was needed to help the ice sink.
The nearly set resin coated the ice cubes before being locked to all the other ice cubes. Then the resin stuck to the resin to form that big clump. Once the ice melted -and it did melt, ofc- it had no where else to go, and most of the colors stayed within the same form. I think the effect was also helped by using rounded ice cubes. The facets and the spinning light were also a super great idea. Great experiment and project, Nick!
I've seen other youtubers trying this and it never works. The fact that you got this really funky piece of art out of it is really, really cool and unique. Bravo!
A stellar nursery in resin. Sweet! - And yes, the ice has melted. There was not enough pressure in your pressure pot to keep it in solid form at that curing temperature. The melting point at the max pressure for your vessel works out to about 39 C.
I like it. I think it's colored water encased in resin. I would like to see you toss or somehow shoot projectiles into resin and try to get that splash effect. It would be cool if you could do that.
The ice melted... I did a similar project.. But when I attempted to turn it, I got to deep and the water poured out.. I also did one where I made resin cube that looked like ice all in different colors (very transparent) then I, like you put them in clear resin, that was almost ready to set, I got a bunch in there and they didn't try to float, they kinda stayed in place after vacuuming them for about 14 hours, it came out cool, I shaped it like a old time milk bottle, drilled a hole from the bottom and put some color changing LED's in it.. I liked your version making look like a crystal... Loved it Nick.. Keep on the craziness.......

Absolutely stunning Nick - I thought you were going to just end up with a blob of water in the middle of resin, but you timed that perfectly to encapsulate each lump of colour! Brilliant!
Is it ice or did the ink make it a liquid? It doesn’t look like a crystal formation at all. Crystals have straight edges. It looks more like pools or puddles of ink. ????????? Whatever it is it’s really COOL!!!!!
That "ice" is water now... no way that it's still ice after being sunk in 90+c resin. You did manage to get a really cool effect though. I think that because you added each piece of Ice individually a layer of resin formed around each piece which kept the colors from mixing together. All in all a very beautiful piece...
That is so incredibly cool! I'm.not scientist, but there are a couple observations I'd offer: 1. The ice is melted. 2. The now melted ice semispheres held their shapes and have not mixed color because if you go back and watch, as he added them 1 at a time and pushed them down with the stick it looked to me like the resin was creating a bit of a pocket around the ice individually, so as he added another it made its own pocket. Surely if drilled into colored water would leak out. 3. Anyone else find it amazing that the resin didn't crack out like previous items Nick cast have done when liquid was involved? He's done flowers, and who can forget the dragonfly? Those were heated by the resin, and dried out by the resin causing it to crack out ruining the piece. Interesting that this didn't do that... My hypothesis as to why it didn't is two-fold : 1. He let the resin come up in temp before adding the ice so it was already nearly at its highest temp when he added the ice. 2. Because it was nearly at temperature and began its final setting the resin didn't have enough hear energy to melt the ice, as well as raise the now water's temperature to a boiling point in which steam would be created which would cause a crackout. Also: I believe the blue one leaked as it wasn't fully encapsulated because the resin was hardening as he tried to push it down in. Cool experiment platying with thermodynamics!
I really love this one! It is pretty magical Nick! I love all of the tiny bubbles that change to the color of the light! It is like a galaxy trapped in a crystal! Beautiful!
@@sethcragan6649 Oh, here's an idea. Maybe you'd like to explain how that's "ice" in there when the room is room temperature (and that resin was even hotter. Do you feel he encapsulated 0° Celsius in this pockets in the resin?? Maybe you could explain that. Is that what Nick was saying or he just misspoke??
C'mon Nick, you know the "ice" is completely melted. We all know it. The ice began melting the moment you put in the resin, which was near 90 degress already. The shape of the orbs has clearly changed. What you have is "colored water pockets" in your piece. Which is cool and beautiful, but it is not, definitively not, ice. Don't spread misinformation.
Why be argumentative, whether its ice or pockets of water is neither here nor there, everybody and his dog knows the ice melted, it a very beautiful piece of art, look at it and be happy 😊
i would like to see a different approach to this maybe do the ice and resin in layers since the ice is basically floating. this looks so cool and i’d love to see what else you could do with this idea!
OK, I thought... He's finally lost it. Right around the bend, complete and utter breakdown! RESIN - Notorious for going HOT PLUS ICE - By definition something quite chilly. Mixed together (with colour added to the ice) SHOULD result in a solid block of resin with coloured water on top..... But oh no... Not in Zammeti World! No, here on "Earth 2", the normal rules of "Earth 1" don't seem to apply! What kind of sorcery is this? You do realise that in the past you would've been burned at the stake for this! Seriously though, Nick, this is a great piece of work. Well done, Sir. Very well done.
LOVE THIS!! If I'm honest, I didn't think it would work either. I figured the resin would melt the ice and you'd have just a couple food of weird colors. This was great to watch! Thank you for sharing it with us! ♥️♥️

It's been done before.. I've seen someone else put ice in resin and when the ice melted they had water inside a pocket in the resin.
It's Ben's Worx
Wow! The tiny bubbles in the resin give it a proper galaxy feel with the lighting 😍
I never get tired of that glove snap. 😂❤️🙏🏻❤️. Has anybody tried hot glue in resin?
Love the moving piece of whatever when you are sanding the glob .. it just kept moving... by itself across the table .....
Am I the only one screaming "it can't be ice Nick!!!" at my TV right now?!???
I really love this one! It is pretty magical Nick! I love all of the tiny bubbles that change to the color of the light! It is like a galaxy trapped in a crystal! Beautiful!
Could you say, "ice" incorrectly ten thousand more friggin times.!?!
Because, that's water in there (not friggin "ice ").
Nice experiment though. :)
Damn son, you got some anger management issues.
@@sethcragan6649
No, I don't.
I'm a happy jolly person (it was just 1 or 2 in the morning and I'm a scientific minded person].
You're outa line.
@@sethcragan6649
Oh, one thing I've learned is to drop my LOL (lols) out here on possibly angry argumentative RUclips.
@@sethcragan6649
And who ya callin' "son":-- and with that cursing??
I'm probably DOUBLE your age.
@@sethcragan6649
Oh, here's an idea.
Maybe you'd like to explain how that's "ice" in there when the room is room temperature (and that resin was even hotter.
Do you feel he encapsulated 0° Celsius in this pockets in the resin??
Maybe you could explain that.
Is that what Nick was saying or he just misspoke??
That is absolutely amazing on so many levels. What a light peice!!!!!!
Why you so mad about it man? Just chill tf out. I think everyone knows that it was going to melt.... Just appreciate the work
Nick, you have done a nicer job at this experiment than others have. Good job.
Very cool Nick, you’ve created Schrödinger's crystal.
That looks like coral!!! I love it!!!
Just simply amazing how that turned out.
Nick not understanding Ice is my favourite thing about this video!!
You've done it again..whether it melted or not it's still just so cool!!
That's beautiful. When it's in the dark it has an fractured crystal effect.
I love it. I still don't know how the water stayed that way. I can't wait to try it.
You make some of the coolest things just by not being afraid to try weird stuff! Love it!
I think it is absolutely beautiful!
Out of all the ice in resin videos I've seen yours came out the best! Love it.
i would like to see a different approach to this maybe do the ice and resin in layers since the ice is basically floating. this looks so cool and i’d love to see what else you could do with this idea!
Looks like you created your own Universe. I love it!
That looks amazing especially with the light on.
OK, I thought... He's finally lost it. Right around the bend, complete and utter breakdown!
RESIN - Notorious for going HOT
PLUS
ICE - By definition something quite chilly.
I didnt think that was gonna work so well. I cant wait to see what you do with this knowledge
That came out AMAZING! Especially with the lights and all! But I must comment on the wood shed: I was always threatened to be taken out to the wood shed as a kid when I was bad, but we didn't have one...You DO! I hope Charlie respects the fact that there is an actual wood shed! :D
I’m not a man of many words. This is astounding! Well done. Sir!
