What an absolutely gorgeous Soap! And this was a great tutorial. I have only been soaping for nine months, and get very discouraged when browsing through Pinterest or Instagram and seeing everybody’s beautiful and perfect soaps. It was encouraging to know the professionals have challenges also! Thank you for showing The difficulties as well as the success! You are such a lovely soul .
This was such an encouragement. I loved seeing how it didn’t turn out as you’d planned but then you adjusted as needed and tried again- to spectacular results! I learned a lot from this. Thank you!
Thought Bucket I’m glad it’s helpful! A lot of times we see the perfect final product but I can’t tell you how many fails and curveballs I’ve gone through with soapmaking to get those final, pretty soaps! We all go through them!
I totally get everything that you experienced and have had each one happen. You handled it really well and all of your efforts proved to be well worth it. They are gorgeous. Well done!!!
Renee Cormalis- Soaps For Love Thank you! My friend Danii from Star Crossed Soapery heard me cry throughout this entire process! 😂 She’s got the patience of a saint for hearing me moan about this darn soap journey haha.
I'm also learning about soaping with pomace olive oil. I'm about to make my 3rd batch and hoping for the best! LOL I think it is great that you are showing the REAL world of soaping!!! Thanks again for sharing.
Thank you! I think it's important that people see that it's not all perfect soaps. A lot of testing and fails happen to even get something decent. I'm just happy to share that with others in hopes that they can find some encouragement and keep going at it!
Lila such lovely soap. Glad you shared warts and all, it is a learning experience for us all! Have you done a piping video? I think your leaves are extraordinary!! Thank you!
Thanks so much! I havent because it’s the exact same technique as frosting piping. You don’t need a special recipe or anything either, just your own and really it’s just waiting for it to reach the consistency of buttercream. -Desiree
Appreciate your honesty and showing all the fails, it’s hard to believe this happens to you as well, when all your soaps are SO perfect. I guess this soap making art is also a learning curve. Can I ask what was different in your recipe that made such a big difference in the thickness of the batter? Love from Australia!
The Timezone Traveller Thank you! There are so many fails that have to happen to get to a good place! So aside from the misbehaving fragrance, I wasn’t able to get olive oil in bulk from my regular supplier due to the current situation (for safety reasons, I didn’t want to risk being exposed going to a huge store/market since I’m in NYC), so in order to stay in budget and still get supplies in time I decided to substitute the olive oil with a pomace/rice bran blend (which is still fantastic for the skin and soap), but pomace is notorious for speeding up trace too! The mini loaf I showed in the beginning I made with what I had left of olive oil and it worked out great!
First time I used RE’s Pearberry, I got soap on a stick. It was so bad that I destroyed a bowl trying to chip it out. Things I do to use it...1) soap colder, around 70F. 2) Single color, mixed with oils, add lye, bring to emulsion, add FO, lightly stir in, pour.
Eeek! Yes, I work at room temp and all those tips as you can see from the video. This FO had a particularly bad review but the fragrance was so pretty I had to test it. As you can see the test 1lb loaf worked (using all of those tips you mentioned as that is how I usually work) so I went ahead for a 5lb and unfortunately it didn't because there was a slight change in the oil recipe due to the current situation (ingredients getting a it harder to source). Oh well! You learn and move on!
I wish this one's issues were purely aesthetic! This one was full of lye and fragrance pockets (and I actually burned myself while cutting it). I've had ugly bars that have been customer favorites before. The great thing about soap is that nothing goes to waste!
@@Lilasuds I am glad you could rebatch it. Sorry it was bad enough to burn you while cutting it. The final soap turned out really pretty! Ugly bars can be loved too!! 🤣

I love seeing how you deal with soap gremlins, reset and keep moving forward. :)
Sorcery Soap Those pesky gremlins getting into my soap! Grrr!

Soap can be such a brat. I made a bratty batch not too long ago. Ugly bars. In use, it has been one of my favorites.
