- Hi everyone,
This is my version of Peter Hollens's December Song (done alone ^_^)
I sang, played and recorded all the parts (Piano / Guitars / Bass / Drums...) then edited more accurately Harp, Brass, Strings, Cello, Percussions, to put an extra orchestral background to the "metal" orientation. Hope you will enjoy it, and will consider to share, like and comment ^_^

Brilliant performance and arrangement for this piece. You have a very strong voice, well suited, and the instrumentation was spot on. The electric guitar/bass was unexpected, but was done so well that it complimented the song. I thought you had gotten the Trans Siberian Orchestra to play along with you! Nice work! Good luck!

I love blending powerful guitars/bass/drums with orchestra (even if I'm not familiar with woodwinds), but if it's just to put a psychedelic shredded solo with a double kick drums just for performance, there is no sense.
I try to get the best of the two universes to fit to what the song means and its feelings, and I'm glad you noticed that.
I didn't know the TSO, I need to listen more about them now I start. ;)

Bon, après avoir regardé toutes les vidéos de cette chaîne, je n'arrive pas à décider quelle chanson je préfères... Franchement, tu as fait d'énormes progrès depuis le tout début et je sens que ça va encore continuer ! Tu fais un travail génial, continues comme ça ;)

listening to this again thru stereo headphones, where the guitar and drums come in always blows me away:) the guitar solo is awesome, beautiful and powerful at the same time. I'm not usually a fan of metal, but this is still maybe the best in the competition. my husband played bass and acoustic guitar for our cover and he loved this!! it's flawless.
+Trisha Zeigler It's very pleasant to read comments like that. I don't really realize if my work is good or not...I mean, I have my own expectations, sometimes I don't reach all of them. I like my arrangement and mix, I hear all the details I don't like and definitively can't listen to my own voice (it seems it's the same for all singers...) :)

Mais...Mais...Mais c'est génial ! Vraiment, j'aime beaucoup, continu ainsi Shiruvin ! J'ai beaucoup aimé la guitare, et aussi, comment arrive tu à avoir un fond noir derrière toi ? (Est-ce juste un décor ou un fond vert) :) bref, aller à la prochaine et vraiment très bonne musique :D
Merci Dookus ! J'aime aussi beaucoup mon arrangement (surtout quand je me donne du mal, avoir un mixage décent me fait plaisir...après j'aimerais jamais ma voix...heureusement j'ai les commentaires xD)
Pour le fond noir: j'ai acheté un fond pliable de 1.5m*2m (je crois) réversible Noir/Blanc.
Configuré mon reflex pour qu'il me garde une image plate (comprendre "pas trop contrasté"). Je règle ensuite le contraste par logiciel, en tirant les tons sombre, vers le noir. Ça me noirci presque entièrement le fond, mais pas trop sinon ma gueule en prend un coup. J'aurai un meilleur rendu en ayant plus d'espace, je rappel que je tourne dans un mouchoir de poche XD
Je ne comprends pas pourauoi tu n'aimes pas ta voix après avoir écouté des tonnes des videos des autres ... tu as une bonne voix mais le plus important est je crois que tu as osé de faire cette vidéo. vidéo que de plus est bonne donc bravo et bonne continuation

Je crois que je ne suis simplement, pas entièrement habitué à comment doit sonner ma voix :)
Bonjour tu dois certainement déja connaitra ta tassitura et faire des exercices pour l'élargir dans les hauts et basses. Peut-être tu peux essayer à t'habituer de chanter sans tes arrangements et le petit echo afin de devenir à l'aise avec ta voix puis la travailler en puissance ensuite. Acapella est dure car on ne peut rien cacher mais pour travailler la voix rien de mieux et ton oreille s'habitue à connaitre ta voix et tu l'oublies et tu peux et concentrer sur la chanson?...En tout cas bon courage et surtout amuses-toi en faisant la musique

Niveau tessiture je ne vais pas trop chercher à l'agrandir (D2-C6 ça frôle les 4 octaves c'est déja beaucoup). Sinon je n'ai aucun problème avec ma voix dans Be Prepared. Ça dépends des chansons. ^_^

Actuellement 1 an et demi de cours de chant derrière moi, si c'est la question.
La cover de "Never Say Never" est particulière dans ce sens, j'ai enregistré la version courte pour la vidéo critique avant de prendre des cours, et enregistré la seconde partie après 1 mois de cours.
Interesting "power ballad" arrangement but somehow the guitar solo detracted from the mood of the song. Good work on the vocals. Best wishes in 2017!

Of course the arrangement change a little the original feeling of the song, in my opinion it sounds a little more joyful...and it's a matter of taste.

So many of the covers were "low key" & didn't stray too far from Peter's arrangement. But he did say be CREATIVE & you were willing to take a risk that most wouldn't. The electric guitar does brighten the song & it is commonly used in power ballads. A good example of that is Tony Peluso's famous guitar solo in "Goodbye To Love" by The Carpenters. But for the "December Song" contest it was apparently "too much" based on the covers that made top 10 (as well as Honorable Mention). You're clearly a very talented musician & I give you a lot of credit for following your own vision for the song.
Thanks so much Jay. I also saw that only a few other covers were creative and original (and I don't think 'Peter's accapella cover copy' are, even the well-done ones) but nevermind.
It permits me to produce something, improve myself, and read some encouraging comments so...in a way, I could say, I won what I was looking for. :)
