My late husband Mike & I's favorite thing for over 40 yrs was driving the backroads--we moved south (Cumberland Gap, Tn) in 2015 and had 5 yrs of our FAVORITE past time & it was heaven on earth! Been on many of those sw VA roads but thanks for showing me some new ones! And yes we ate at Hob Nob several times. 😊 Glad you got your PB shake, Karen, & that was my Mike's favorite kind too. Beautiful scenery. We like to get out and drive. When our kids was little we would go out they always worried we was lost. I would tell them were not lost as long as we had atleast 1/4 tank of gas. My youngest son loves peanut butter ice cream and shakes.
Yes on Peanut Butter Ice Cream. Took the Sams Line Train to Plains Georgia. A shop was serving the peanut butter ice cream and it was absolutely the best! We will take a drive to Hob Nob and try sometime.
Who could have asked for a more beautiful drive lost in the mountains of Virginia. Does BIG T enjoy ice cream? It sure looked wonderful even though I’ve never had a peanut butter milkshake. All my Love, Always

I've discovered I have lots of paternal family in SW Virginia. My great grandfather was born in Scott County, Virginia but I just found that out as I research my paternal ancestors. I know where they all lived and I hear the towns called out as you do your scenic drives. Tonight I hear Rye Cove, Nickelsville and Gate City. One day I hope to visit but for now I just wanted to let y'all know how grateful I am to see the beauty of NC, East Tennessee and SW Virginia. When I visit, please know that I'm going to get myself a peanut butter milkshake from Hob-Nob. Thank you both for sharing your beautiful area with us.
I used to drive around S.E. Indiana trying to get lost. I would see amazing places but always came out to know where I was. That's the best way to see the country. Hob-Nob diner was packed!!! Sorry Karen but peanut butter ice cream sounds bad!! But I m sure you enjoyed it !!
I actually watched this last night on TV, You Tube. I love the scenery and your adventures. I'm a Southwest Virginia girl too, transplanted to NC, but those mountains back home will always have a piece of my heart. We stop at Hob Knobs almost every time we travel to our Camper on Douglas Lake. I have never had the peanut butter milkshake, but I definitely will next trip.
Laughed when Mike said, " well let's turn right...don't know where we are going.....no idea where this road is taking us..." because that is exactly the way my husband and used to travel..always the roads less traveled..can't tell you how many times, we had to back down a road that just ended. Precious memories.
