I think, one key thing that Andrea is failing to understand is, US has never been consistent about its idea of Human rights. You can say that the Axis is pushing back because US is spreading democracy and trying to instill human rights, but US' action in the middle east, Nam, Cuba is deferring that PoV. Russia and China and Iran has a lot of good rep in OIS countries simply because US refused to take just actions when it didn't fit their interest. This is a false statement. US has had a policy to only help coups that are democratic and hold "free and fair" elections within 5 years. Even during the cold war, when It committed most of its crimes, it only ever did a coup in a democratic country once(pro-ussr, socialists were elected), whereas it has tried to create democratic governments many times (Also failed in doing so, many times)

The US isn't an empire though, certainly not today. Its a nation. Empires are structured in a way that there is a metropole/capital, and then colonies which are set up to serve the metropole, and contains many people who are not citizens of said metropole and do not have the same rights. The US is 50 federated states where all citizens have the same legal rights as each other, and its borders haven't changed in over 60 years (and even then it was through diplomacy, not force).

I think, one key thing that Andrea is failing to understand is, US has never been consistent about its idea of Human rights. You can say that the Axis is pushing back because US is spreading democracy and trying to instill human rights, but US' action in the middle east, Nam, Cuba is deferring that PoV. Russia and China and Iran has a lot of good rep in OIS countries simply because US refused to take just actions when it didn't fit their interest. Coming from Bangladesh, I definitely have a very different outlook on how US is operating (cooperating with dictators like Saud and Bashar, while attacking Iraq for superficial reasons and funding Taliban against Soviets, and not to mention whatever the hell they are doing with Israel and how they are refusing Palestines autonomy in Westbank). The US isn't an empire though, certainly not today. Its a nation. Empires are structured in a way that there is a metropole/capital, and then colonies which are set up to serve the metropole, and contains many people who are not citizens of said metropole and do not have the same rights.
The US is 50 federated states where all citizens have the same legal rights as each other, and its borders haven't changed in over 60 years (and even then it was through diplomacy, not force).
