I haven't been able to test it since dismantling my set-up but in theory providing you've done all the set-up while connected to the internet the device should operate like a 'dumb' screen and camera. I'm unclear on whether the detection and recording functions will work without a network connection though. I'll see if EZVIZ have any documentation on it and if they do I'll update.

I found a video showing someone going through the set up process and on the wifi page there is an option to skip so I'm thinking one could skip the wifi altogether if needed. I like the features of this doorbell camera but I will not have wifi for awhile at my cabin but I still want to capture who comes and goes while having the sd card locked inside the cabin unlike a trail cam on a tree outside where someone could just take the entire camera and I'd have no pictures. Can you run the device 7/24 conneced via charging cable? I have a wall socket near the door and I can supply power to the device all the time so actually I don't need a battery to rely on.
Is Motion Monitoring and Detection at the camera work so it will notify me when I'm away from home, without subscribing to any Cloud Storage? I assume recordings on Cloud need subscription and cost month by month?
Yes, the last official update from EZVIZ was that you don't need their cloud service to operate the camera. But yes, you'll need to subscribe to EZVIZ CloudPlay to store videos in the cloud for remote viewing. www.ezviz.com/cloudplay?
I've found a massive problem with this doorbell... Let's say someone approaches your door but does not press the 'Call' button, because there's no microphone on the inside screen unit you can't speak with the person outside the door UNLESS you have the app on separate device. I'm not joking - Ezviz seriously thought that no one might want to use this as a standalone unit, so saved a dollar or 2 by not putting a microphone on the screen side of the door. Ridiculous! There's no button you can press on the screen that allows you to communicate with the person outside - you will DEFINITELY require another device with their app installed to use this doorbell properly.
I believe it's to reference the fact it doesn't require a permanent wired connection to power the device but not to confuse 'wireless' being the usual nomenclature for meaning operating via a wireless network.

it appears video resolution is high but the bitrate is very low which causes mpeg artifacts (pixel boxes)when there is motion in the video.

In theory you could connect it to a power supply but it's been a while since I disassembled the camera to test it myself.
Can it perfom as a always on display? So that you from the inside can 24/7 see from the screen without having to click on the button
Unfortunately it's been a while since I disassembled my set-up but to the best of my knowledge the screen always times out, even in Performance Mode.
