A video breaking down the bare minimum that you need to start off would be great. I'm interested in having a studio of my own in the future and the amount of stuff you can get for a studio feels very overwhelming. Stuff like clay, a kiln, a wheel, and a set of basic carving tools is a given, but what are other things that a studio can't go without when starting off?
Having your own studio! How exciting. That is a good suggestion and a good question. This is true it can seem overwhelming because the things you can do with clay are endless. So it would depend on what you plan on doing to start with. Example. If you plan on Underglazing and not glazing yet. You can get a sampler pack of underglaze and clear glaze only. You know you need flooring, buckets and sponges, and rags. As far as anything else, think of what you will be doing and build from there. This post will be helpful while you are planning your studio. Hi Lori. I have so many tools because I am teaching and reviewing things. You can start out small and grow from there. All you need are a few basic tools, a rolling pin, and a 2x2 half-inch piece of wood to work on. You can even start with air-dry clay before you get a kiln.😊
You're welcome, Lori. Also, if you would like to throw on the wheel, you can start with a smaller wheel that is under $200 Like this SKYTOU geni.us/r1VewMF 😊
Hi Preshus, Thank you. That sounds great. You can start small. You may not need everything I have. It will depend on what you love to do. Hand building, wheel throwing, or sculpting? 😍

I have just looked at your clip about your home studio and wanted to ask what flooring material you have used? Also is your kiln in a separate, different space?

Did you do the flooring because it’s in your home? Would you suggest having this type of flooring (vinyl sheet) for a garage studio? I have a bare concrete flooring for my studio and can go for vinyl if I wanted to. I originally wanted to do vinyl because of ease of cleaning but leaning towards not doing it because I’m worried about the floor beneath the vinyl might get humid and cause mold? Any advice?
