  • She’s lived through two pandemics and two world wars.
One of Hamilton’s oldest residents celebrated her 109th birthday on July 14.
Ann Konkel spent decades serving her community as an operating room nurse at Henderson General Hospital (now Juravinski Hospital). She volunteered with the Catholic Women’s League at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church for 60 years before retiring from active duties at 103.
She’s been called the little lady from Sherman Avenue North and the matriarch of Hamilton.
Since 2020, Konkel has lived in the complex care program at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton.
Her birthday has become an annual event at St. Joe’s since 2020, uniting family, friends and caregivers.
