Joyce Pulley Juan Martinez is Amazing. I truly believe that it was no coincidence that he was the prosecutor in this case. By this i mean, God placed him in this position at this time, to give justice to Travis. Who knows if any other Prosecutor would've been able to prove that she was guilty. Imagine it was Nurmi in his place. She would've run rings around Nurmi and would be enjoying a holiday by the water right now.
Mr. Martinez called her out on every time she kept changing her story. She thought she could turn and twist his words and get him confused just like she tried the others. I believe he was so passionate about justice for Travis because he saw right through all her BS lies. She has done this her whole life. To every boyfriend she even admitted herself. She remembers all these sexual times and encounters , but not how he was acting the day she killed him !

She shoots him after stabbing so brutally because she wanted I'm to be dead, and slits the throat. This can't be self defence in any given circumstance. Then makes calls to cover up everybody's doubts. Then goes to have sex again. And also goes to the Memorial service. And then says the "Jury will not convict me, mark my words". The same demeanor was clearly visible in Jodi's family so clearly. My Mom would have given up on me for this sin for sure. Who on earth doesn't think likewise and that she went to Mesa to kill him? After watching this testimony on Jodi’s recall of the actual killing, flip over to the day (29?) of Jury questions... It’s like a different person. She is positively giddy explaining the same events.
She looks completely different in every single one of these videos- and the interviews... along with pictures from years before. This clearly has taken its toll on her. She looks haggard, old, pale and pasty, deep jowls, and beaten down. This is evidence that the ugly in this horrid person is deep inside her. She's almost unrecognizable from her 48 hours interviews, and the interviews in the jail.
We can only imagine what she looks like now. Locked up 23 hours a day at present and has a few years to go before they even consider her for general population. I would say that Arizona is in no hurry to down grade her, if she gets down graded at all. There are many who are incarcerated for life that are locked down 23 hours a day. An hour a day in a cement dog kennel, three restricted showers per week wearing restraints whilst being watched by Correction Officers. Arias truly deserves no less. My question to her today would be 'was it truly worth it?'

She had many emotions. One, IMO, was fear of humiliating herself by demonstrating that she really had no clue how to lie about TA's body posture. I think she was also fearful of leaving the comfort of her witness stand, "her" spot. During the sidebar, before she had to demonstrate, she moved her water pitcher so that it was between her and JM. She did not want to be any closer to JM; he scares her because he has challenged her unlike anyone else has in her entire life.

The way she answers questions shows her need for control at all times, even if it's just perceived control. When JM asks her a question that paints her in a truthful light, one which she would like to lie about but can't due to having already answered it at some point in record, such as "you were angry at that time, weren't you", and she adds a descriptive word to her answer, such as "very angry" instead of just saying "yes", that's her attempt at taking control of the conversation. This really demonstrates her arrogance, as she has no control whatsoever and is wearing a stun belt around her thigh. Delusional.

It was everything-Travis was the only genuinely nice guy she'd ever dated-a pillar in his church, a successful businessman, a homeowner, well-liked. His world was one she would give anything to be a part of, but she would not fit in. Travis had been telling her that gently for a year to no avail. She had lost her chance, This was a rage killing, a very personal crime that escalated into overkill.

agree to some extent. only beef with martinez is he was drawn off on way too many tangents and had an almost obsessive need to win every point regardless of its relevance. as an example, he got on an extended line of questioning with gus searcy to elicit the idea that ppl was a pyramid scheme seemingly oblivious to the fact that the victim, whose character was about to be impugned by the defendant, derived all his income from said pyramid scheme. with all due respect, there was not as much physical evidence in the anthony case and in the oj case the defense was able to play the race card to a black jury and elicit sympathy for oj which was not in play here.
Of coarse she would have been convicted. She admitted to killing him. JM didn't do anything special in my opinion. She opened her mouth from the beginning. Talked to the police, talked 48 hours and other media. So all JM is doing is using her own words and lies against her. Jodi did not lie on the stand about killing Travis. Nurmi is actually good. Boring but good. He brought out a lot evidence about travis, in effect putting Travis on trial. Demonstrating character in order to prove that Travis could have been violent towards Jodi. Nobody knew the real Travis but Jodi. Nurmi actually won the case. No death penalty for Jodi based on doubt about Travis. Travis is not who he portrayed himself to be.

JM should've asked her how it was possible to shoot him through the forehead if his head was facing down as she claims during his "linebacker" attack. The bullet would've entered through his dome, not his forehead. Furthermore, he should've presented ballistics and bullet trajectory details to compare with what she claims. At what angle did the bullet actually penetrate TA's forehead according to the autopsy? And is that angle consistent with how she claims to have shot him during his "attack"? These points were missed but JM still managed to hit the main points and push for an appropriate decision by the Jury.
Because the bitch left him in the shower dead for a week his brain was partially liquified and they could not trace the bullet path exactly. That may be why JM sort of passed over that. Regardless, the bitch is a killer so they need to just get on with it.
@@rrhone they could still have seen where the entry hole was though and Dr Horn did describe the path of the bullet through the hole and skull and then looses the trajectory in the liquified brain but could see where it came back out and down the sinus and lodged in his cheek....
No she made his position according to the head shot. The angle would be consistent to the reality I.e. him sitting in shower and her shooting from above so her lie did help her a little. If she said he was stood up straight that angle would have been harder .

As pathetic as Jodi's defense council was, there is zero doubt in my mind that they gave her repeated warnings about her demeanor on the stand. I'm 100% positive they told her to try and come off as likeable and sympathetic. She responded by acting petulant, snarky, arrogant and evasive - while on trial for murder in the first degree. Stupid isn't the word.
Her go-to is to use her sex appeal and flirtation. When those sex tapes and texts were showed in the trial, I was MORTIFIED. Like, if that was ME and everyone could hear my sex life talks, sex phone calls, dirty talking... I'd simply die. SHE WAS SMILING/SMIRKING... she loved it! She loved that other men were thinking of her sexually, it's all she knows how to do.
1:00:48 I just really realized what Martinez did here… I think Martinez realized the instant she admitted to the finger injury but in order to not alert her to her huge mistake he keeps going and asks other different questions and he recognizes that she was almost answering like she’s in a daze and not really paying attention to his questions… and then a few minutes later he circles back and she again admits to the finger injury without thinking about it and he asks something else and finally the third time he brings up the left finger injury she catches on and starts backpedaling…absolute mastery on Martinez’ part… he was so clever to notice she was answering in a daze and didn’t realize her huge mistake and he instantly moves away from the finger topic for a minute so she doesn’t catch on… When Martinez mentioned the injury to her left ring finger a 5th time and makes it obvious she starts saying she was referring to the injury from when Travis kicked her in January- but before that Martinez had cleverly asked about the finger as part of a series of questions about injuries from June 4th and if she sought medical care after that and she clearly states no. I have listened to this part over and over from the point of view of her actually believing she was talking about the January finger breaking incident and it just doesn’t work.. she clearly didn’t realize she had f’d up…especially since Martinez specifically said “ as a result of the killing… except the left ring finger!”
And then she tried to say she didn’t know which injury he meant etc... absolutely amazing job by Martinez... that had to have sealed it for the jury. Listening to her try to say she meant the other finger after Martinez specifically said “ your left RING finger” three separate times!!!
Juan: "So if he's down in this position that you're talking about, with his head down like that..how could he possibly know to come after you if he's looking down? How's he gonna do, feel his way around?? He had his head down, thats what you said right?" Arias: "He was...like a....I can just describe it as like a linebacker unless I get up and act it out which I would like to not do....if possible" Juan: "Then do it, go ahead. Show us how he was standing immediately before, or how he was sitting or crouching immediately before this happened......If you could do it just from there." Arias: "He....." Juan: "No no no.. go ahead and do it." Arias: "👁👄👁" Juan: "Just stand" I've never seen someone literally bury themselves so much during a cross examination. It's so obvious how smug and confident she is at the start but as the days go on and the questions get tougher she crumbles., This questioning occurs around 47 minutes in. Juan does not let her get away with anything and questions every single detail. What an amazing prosecutor, he really worked hard for the alexander family and justice for Travis.

Letting JA show her true colors was an excellent thing. JM was able to show how many times she lied on the stand these past 4 weeks. He needed to go over everything in order for that to happen. JA has never been able to keep her lies straight. By keeping her talking, JM gave her the opportunity to screw up. She has several times. JM also demonstrated that JA is no shrinking flower when challenged. She is aggressive & hostile when challenged. They jury will not buy her self-defense BS now.
Also, I'm starting to think the way that she's describing his actions coming towards her is how it went down, but he was protecting himself. He was going after her for his self defense. So sad!!
I keep going back to around 3:15 when she says "Travis never calmed down that quickly"....look at how she is digging in her mind for the "best" answer....
I'm going to school to be a Court Reporter, and I'm almost done. So, I thought that it would be good practice for me act as if I'm the Court Reporter for this case. All I can say, is that I have NO IDEA how the Court Reporter isn't just freaking out at her. She is beyond annoying. I know they have to remain professional, but it's got be be hard!! I've had moments while I'm writing out the case, and I just blurt out my frustration with her!!
I fell asleep to this and ended up having a lucid dream. I'm her celly and try to convince her as a hair stylist to consider to at least let me throw in some big girl layers but she was like "Meh, no". She had an image she was trying to uphold. Then we talked about Travis a lot and I just listened "as a friend" because apparently, I wanted to tell the world about it when I got out because even in the dream, I followed the whole thing from the start but she didn't know that. She talked a _lot_ when asked about herself. Everything was always from her perspective - no interests in why I was even there, just all about Jodi. I saw in her bag a bunch of prescription meds for all of her newly discovered issues. I took some Xanax and other stuff and nearly got caught by guards and shakedown was coming up, so I begged her to say she dropped her bottle and some rolled off under my bed. This was not max security prison. She was acting like she was disgusted that I would actually ingest something not by the doctor's orders because she was very much a prude and beyond boring, but she said she would cover for me but did *not* care to hear about why I even did that or anything about my personal life. I didn't like her anyway but felt rejected as a person by a fucking monster. She was a selfish bitch even in this dream as you can tell. FIN

After being forced to look at her handiwork, and sobbing until the judge broke early for lunch, she did refuse to make eye contact with him the rest of the day. After watching this testimony on Jodi’s recall of the actual killing, flip over to the day (29?) of Jury questions... It’s like a different person. She is positively giddy explaining the same events.

She looks haggard, old, pale and pasty, deep jowls, and beaten down. This is evidence that the ugly in this horrid person is deep inside her. We can only imagine what she looks like now. Locked up 23 hours a day at present and has a few years to go before they even consider her for general population. I would say that Arizona is in no hurry to down grade her, if she gets down graded at all. There are many who are incarcerated for life that are locked down 23 hours a day. An hour a day in a cement dog kennel, three restricted showers per week wearing restraints whilst being watched by Correction Officers. Arias truly deserves no less. My question to her today would be 'was it truly worth it?'

The way she answers questions shows her need for control at all times, even if it's just perceived control. When JM asks her a question that paints her in a truthful light, one which she would like to lie about but can't due to having already answered it at some point in record, such as "you were angry at that time, weren't you", and she adds a descriptive word to her answer, such as "very angry" instead of just saying "yes", that's her attempt at taking control of the conversation. This really demonstrates her arrogance, as she has no control whatsoever and is wearing a stun belt around her thigh. Delusional.
It was a perfect strategy for Juan to let the jury see her attitude and need for control.

This is far more than Travis's deciding to take another woman on a business/pleasure trip. It was everything-Travis was the only genuinely nice guy she'd ever dated-a pillar in his church, a successful businessman, a homeowner, well-liked. the answer is yes. this killer was dumb enough to leave actual pictures of herself committing the crime at the crime scene, her hair and blood and prints at the crime scene, use a murder weapon she acquired in a phony staged burglary and thus create a police report documenting her acquisition of the murder weapon and create premeditation, give multiple interviews to the media and police involving numerous inconsistent stories, etc. etc. you add that to a horrible courtroom demeanor and the worst prosecutor in the world could have gotten murder 1 here.

There's also the little matter of an OJ Simpson double murder so I think you should give credit where credit is due and I think I speak for the majority of people that took an interest in the Arias case Martinez was masterful in getting 12 jurors all to agree with him that Jodi Ann Arias committed pre-meditated murder.
agree to some extent. only beef with martinez is he was drawn off on way too many tangents and had an almost obsessive need to win every point regardless of its relevance. as an example, he got on an extended line of questioning with gus searcy to elicit the idea that ppl was a pyramid scheme seemingly oblivious to the fact that the victim, whose character was about to be impugned by the defendant, derived all his income from said pyramid scheme. with all due respect, there was not as much physical evidence in the anthony case and in the oj case the defense was able to play the race card to a black jury and elicit sympathy for oj which was not in play here.
Of coarse she would have been convicted. She admitted to killing him. JM didn't do anything special in my opinion. She opened her mouth from the beginning. Talked to the police, talked 48 hours and other media. So all JM is doing is using her own words and lies against her. Jodi did not lie on the stand about killing Travis.
Nurmi is actually good. Boring but good. He brought out a lot evidence about travis, in effect putting Travis on trial. Demonstrating character in order to prove that Travis could have been violent towards Jodi. Nobody knew the real Travis but Jodi. Nurmi actually won the case. No death penalty for Jodi based on doubt about Travis. Travis is not who he portrayed himself to be.
I like the way the judge always reminds the jury to remember the ammunition when she excuses them.

JM should've asked her how it was possible to shoot him through the forehead if his head was facing down as she claims during his "linebacker" attack. The bullet would've entered through his dome, not his forehead. Furthermore, he should've presented ballistics and bullet trajectory details to compare with what she claims. At what angle did the bullet actually penetrate TA's forehead according to the autopsy? And is that angle consistent with how she claims to have shot him during his "attack"? These points were missed but JM still managed to hit the main points and push for an appropriate decision by the Jury.
Because the bitch left him in the shower dead for a week his brain was partially liquified and they could not trace the bullet path exactly. That may be why JM sort of passed over that. Regardless, the bitch is a killer so they need to just get on with it.

No she made his position according to the head shot. The angle would be consistent to the reality I.e. him sitting in shower and her shooting from above so her lie did help her a little. If she said he was stood up straight that angle would have been harder .

As pathetic as Jodi's defense council was, there is zero doubt in my mind that they gave her repeated warnings about her demeanor on the stand. I'm 100% positive they told her to try and come off as likeable and sympathetic. She responded by acting petulant, snarky, arrogant and evasive - while on trial for murder in the first degree. Stupid isn't the word.
Her go-to is to use her sex appeal and flirtation. When those sex tapes and texts were showed in the trial, I was MORTIFIED. Like, if that was ME and everyone could hear my sex life talks, sex phone calls, dirty talking... I'd simply die. SHE WAS SMILING/SMIRKING... she loved it! She loved that other men were thinking of her sexually, it's all she knows how to do.
1:00:48 I just really realized what Martinez did here… I think Martinez realized the instant she admitted to the finger injury but in order to not alert her to her huge mistake he keeps going and asks other different questions and he recognizes that she was almost answering like she’s in a daze and not really paying attention to his questions… and then a few minutes later he circles back and she again admits to the finger injury without thinking about it and he asks something else and finally the third time he brings up the left finger injury she catches on and starts backpedaling…absolute mastery on Martinez’ part… he was so clever to notice she was answering in a daze and didn’t realize her huge mistake and he instantly moves away from the finger topic for a minute so she doesn’t catch on…
When Martinez mentioned the injury to her left ring finger a 5th time and makes it obvious she starts saying she was referring to the injury from when Travis kicked her in January- but before that Martinez had cleverly asked about the finger as part of a series of questions about injuries from June 4th and if she sought medical care after that and she clearly states no.
I have listened to this part over and over from the point of view of her actually believing she was talking about the January finger breaking incident and it just doesn’t work.. she clearly didn’t realize she had f’d up…especially since Martinez specifically said “ as a result of the killing… except the left ring finger!”
I have also watched this several times and she didn't realize how bad she messed up while he continues questioning!

I've never seen someone literally bury themselves so much during a cross examination. It's so obvious how smug and confident she is at the start but as the days go on and the questions get tougher she crumbles., This questioning occurs around 47 minutes in. Juan does not let her get away with anything and questions every single detail. What an amazing prosecutor, he really worked hard for the alexander family and justice for Travis.

Letting JA show her true colors was an excellent thing. JM was able to show how many times she lied on the stand these past 4 weeks. He needed to go over everything in order for that to happen.
JA has never been able to keep her lies straight. By keeping her talking, JM gave her the opportunity to screw up. She has several times.
JM also demonstrated that JA is no shrinking flower when challenged. She is aggressive & hostile when challenged. They jury will not buy her self-defense BS now.
Also, I'm starting to think the way that she's describing his actions coming towards her is how it went down, but he was protecting himself. He was going after her for his self defense. So sad!!
I keep going back to around 3:15 when she says "Travis never calmed down that quickly"....look at how she is digging in her mind for the "best" answer....
The judge wants her to be composed enough to answer the questions - thus preventing a re-trial.
I'm going to school to be a Court Reporter, and I'm almost done. So, I thought that it would be good practice for me act as if I'm the Court Reporter for this case. All I can say, is that I have NO IDEA how the Court Reporter isn't just freaking out at her. She is beyond annoying. I know they have to remain professional, but it's got be be hard!! I've had moments while I'm writing out the case, and I just blurt out my frustration with her!!
I fell asleep to this and ended up having a lucid dream.
I'm her celly and try to convince her as a hair stylist to consider to at least let me throw in some big girl layers but she was like "Meh, no". She had an image she was trying to uphold.
Then we talked about Travis a lot and I just listened "as a friend" because apparently, I wanted to tell the world about it when I got out because even in the dream, I followed the whole thing from the start but she didn't know that.
She talked a _lot_ when asked about herself. Everything was always from her perspective - no interests in why I was even there, just all about Jodi.
I saw in her bag a bunch of prescription meds for all of her newly discovered issues. I took some Xanax and other stuff and nearly got caught by guards and shakedown was coming up, so I begged her to say she dropped her bottle and some rolled off under my bed.
This was not max security prison. She was acting like she was disgusted that I would actually ingest something not by the doctor's orders because she was very much a prude and beyond boring, but she said she would cover for me but did *not* care to hear about why I even did that or anything about my personal life. I didn't like her anyway but felt rejected as a person by a fucking monster. She was a selfish bitch even in this dream as you can tell.

I totally agree with you about this being a rage killing, and I do think she came prepared if it escalated into her not making him do what she wanted...accept and keep her in his world. There is not one shred of rationality to her story, only that she was deranged on a mission. I think it is all the more tragic, all the more adding insult to injury that she lied so much. If she had never gone with the self defense story, and just been honest we might not want execution.She won't own reality.

I agree, and JA was keeping strong eye contact w/ Martinez until the end of Pt. 1, when he hammered her with, "were you crying when you shot/stabbed/cut his throat?" (This footage will go on the famous trials clip reel, alongside the O.J. glove fiasco.) After being forced to look at her handiwork, and sobbing until the judge broke early for lunch, she did refuse to make eye contact with him the rest of the day. Petulance and the "little girl lost" attitude doesn't become a savage murderer.

Nancy Terry In retrospect, I honestly think Nurmi didn't give a rip about her. He's a steadfast dp opponent so any time he shows any aggression, it's due to keeping her off the row-only. He could have cared less about saving his idiot client from herself. He's a bad lawyer, we can all see that. He's a bad lawyer for many reasons but namely that he never truly got a handle on this nutbag. I think he realized very early on that she was a run away train... His only part in this was to keep the prosecution in line with the law. All of which will ensure that JA does not get a retrial. It was always understood that she killed Travis with premeditation. But Nurmi is a low level player which is what she deserved. He was sufficient enough to provide a defense to keep her in jail.
