      It's okay. It wasn't that bad. 😃 I've had similar experiences all over the world. It would be easier if I came back to Bangladesh and did it again. Now I understand the visa system and how it works. 👍

    Hey! You was living next to Al Razzak restaurant, that's so cool . I can eat there three times seven days. On a side note, I used to commute for 5 to 8 hrs every day and spent 10-12 hrs at work. I survived learning to sleep on the road.

      @PlanetDoug  2 года назад

      It's been a long time since I thought about the Al Razzak. 🙂 But I still have fond memories of my time in Dhaka - especially the life on the streets and all the boats on the river. I have no idea how you could handle commuting so much. It's good that you could sleep on the road. I think I'd have trouble doing that. I can never sleep on anything that is moving. Maybe I would eventually learn how to do it if I had no choice...

    HAHAHA - I know your pain very well. I've had the same issue where I entered on a 30day but needed to extend for another two weeks... What I discovered is that you can just overstay and pay an "overstayer fine" which requires significantly less admin. I forget the fine per day but its a trivial amount of money.

    • @PlanetDoug
      @PlanetDoug  5 лет назад

      I think I'd heard about that. And there was a similar system in Myanmar. There was even an official counter at the airport in Myanmar where they just counted up the days you had overstayed and charged you a certain amount per day. But I never had the courage to do it. I couldn't shake the feeling that something would go wrong, and I'd end up arrested or banned from the country or something. 😃 But, you're right, it would be a lot easier.

    Thank you for video and it's really helping.so visiting immigration offfice at least 30days before visa expire,right?and can I extend 30days with out any problem?100%?

    • @PlanetDoug
      @PlanetDoug  5 лет назад

      Nothing is 100% no problem with immigration and visas in any country, of course. 🙂 The rules seem to change a lot, and people often have different experiences at the same office.
      All I know is that it is possible to extend your visa for an additional 30 days. I don't think you need to go to the office as early as 30 days beforehand. I think you can go there about a week before your current visa expires.

    Hi do u remember where u paid for your visa?
    At the visa office or some bank ?

    • @PlanetDoug
      @PlanetDoug  4 года назад +1

      I paid right at the visa office. They gave me a slip of paper and told me to go a different window. This window appeared to be run by a bank, but it was inside the same room. I paid the fee at this window, got my receipt, and then I had to go to a different window to continue the process.

    Interesting video. The comment on the lady with everyone's passport made me think that the same scrum probably happens every single day, and no one thinks twice about it.
    I noticed that the company doing the subway was Thai-Ital they built the MRT near our house in Bangkok. Brand new tracks, not smooth at all. Plus, the owner of the company killed an endangered black panther in a national park and was arrested while eating it's tail that was cooked by his house keeper. He's on trial right now for that.
    Japan, cause I saw another comment that said that. I would have said New Zealand.

    • @PlanetDoug
      @PlanetDoug  5 лет назад

      That's exactly what I always think about. I'm sure the same chaos and the same scrum happens every day, and it puzzles me that it would be allowed to continue for years without anyone ever adjusting the system to make it better. If I got a job there, I'd see the problems on my first day and start figuring out ways to improve the systems. But it seems a lot of people are happy to just let things go on chaotically forever.
      It remains to be seen how the subway system turns out here. If any city needs one, it's Dhaka. Hopefully, it turns out well.
      And, yes, the most recent reports say that a Japanese passport is now the best one to have. It is accepted for visa-free entry at more places worldwide than any other. A Singaporean passport is #2. And I think Germany, France, and South Korea tie for third place.

    Passport office is beside my home in Agargoan. I would have invited you for a cup of tea if I knew

    • @PlanetDoug
      @PlanetDoug  5 лет назад +2

      It's too bad I didn't know that. As you probably saw in the video, I had 5 hours to kill. So I had more than enough time for tea. I ended up making good use of my time by visiting the Liberation War Museum, but a cup of tea would have been nice, too. ☕☕

    What software are you using to edit these?

    • @PlanetDoug
      @PlanetDoug  5 лет назад +2

      I don't have much choice when it comes to editing software. The only program that will run on this computer is Windows Movie Maker. It's the most primitive editing software around, but it gets the job done (as long as you don't want to do anything fancy). I've tried a bunch of other basic and free software, but none of them would run on my computer. It's just not powerful enough to edit video. Forget about Adobe Premiere or anything like that. My computer would just hide in the corner and whimper if I tried to load full-featured software like that. 🤣

      You're right. The Japanese passport is now listed as being accepted for visa-free entry in more countries than any other passport. 👍

    Hi there, this is one of the worst country in the world, whether you go for travel and job. There is no bureaucracy, no system, the most corrupted ever. Better you do some research before your next visit.

      I'm not sure about that. 😃 When I arrived in Bangladesh, the immigration officials were pretty strict and serious. I got the impression that if my visa expired or something else happened, I could be in real trouble. But it all worked out in the end, and I eventually got a visa extension. 👍

    hahaha dhaka is crazy man.... i know my people....there is no system....so crazy

    • @PlanetDoug
      @PlanetDoug  5 лет назад

      In this case, there was kind of a system in place. Part of the system really was crazy - for example, requiring 30 days to process an application for a 30-day extension. That's just weird. 😃😃
      But the main problem was that there was no way for me (or anyone else) to know what the system was. They didn't tell us. And that caused the confusion. They system was to come in at 10, drop off my passport, and then come back at 3 and wait for my number to be called. That's the system. But no one told me about it. So I didn't know what was going on.
      I spoke to other people that were waiting, and they said that I had to go to the window and shout for the clerk and get their attention and demand to get my passport and maybe pay them money. They said if I didn't do that, I would never get my passport back. And everyone else seemed to be doing that - crowding around the window and waving papers and shouting.
      But in reality, I could have just sat down and waited quietly, and eventually, they would call my number. But I didn't know that. At least if I ever come back to Bangladesh, I will understand how it works. 😊
