      Myself with absolutely no background of CS or IT based on the past four weeks of training for CCNA and this tutorial think that the IPv4 Subnet Mask allows a Local Area Network (LAN) to use its IP address most efficiently by dividing the maximum number of End Devices allowed (computers, lap tops, printers, cell phones, servers) into several sub networks without acquiring additional IP adresses for each sub netwrok.
      As he repeatedly said in this tutorial; do watch his IPv4 tutorial, I will definitely do that as well.
      Hope it somewhat answers your querry.

    Good day! I got a question from 21:53 where you add the subnet mask of (I I 0 0 0 0 0 0) from the octet. Do you add the sum of the 8th and 7th bit which is 2^8 and 2^7 or do you add the least bit to the next which is 2^7 and 2^6? You explained that by adding both bits would result into getting the # of subnet mask. P.S. `Thanks for the lesson bro. Helps alot. This is just for me to clarify what I understood from the video. Hope you have a great day!`

    • @ayanroy9820
      @ayanroy9820 2 года назад +4

      It's 2^7 & 2^6 coz, oct range ends 128. (Where 2^8 - 256) so, 2^7+2^6= 128+64= 192. New subnet mask.
      .
      I know it's super late reply but, I just learnt this 😅 and tried to explain. I hope it is correct.

      Each octet has 8 bits which ranges from 0 to 127 bits. So, if you count 8 bits in the power of 2 it will 2^0 + 2^1 + 2^2 + 2^3 + 2^4 + 2^5 + 2^6 + 2^7. As IPs are read from Left to Right, we have to take 2^7 + 2^6 = 128+64 = 192. Rest other 63 out of 255 bits in last octet will be assigned to host. I hope it helps.
