Great vid. Question, what do u do with the books ur not a fan of? Lol cuz I buy a lot of movies and books and just hate looking at the ones I wasn’t a fan of on my shelves.
Thank you! Well two things I do is sell them on eBay and other similar sites. Or if the books are not likely to sell or are very low value I use sites like WeBuyBooks sent a bulk and get a few quid. If you know it’s not for you then get rid, charity shops is another good option if you do not want to take on postage and all that.
I just started watching, but am really enjoying this video, going o comment becuase I’ll probably forget to later, but I like how you explain exactly WHY you didn’t enjoy a book instead of being like those people that are like ohhh it’s not for me…..and that’s okay!!!!

Have you read Die by Kieron Gillen? Utterly impenetrable, much like Alex Raymond. I understood the first chapter, after that, literally the entire book,was lost on me. 600 pages of wondering what the hell was going on.
I haven’t as yet. I read wicked and divine which started very strong and went a little off the further in you went. Makes me want to read it to find out how impenetrable it is! 😂
I watched this with squinted eyes hoping less than four was my suggestions for you.😅
I have already one disappointment read for this year. It’s always annoying but also almost unnecessary part of the hobby. You did well explaining your reasons for not enjoying these. I haven’t read any of them so have no opinion.
I have another video about analog comics worst recommendations, it’s taking a while to edit though! 👊✌️😂 it so bad when a book doesn’t hit in any level though, makes you resent the hobby…then I pick up another and forget!

I’m almost relieved to know I don’t have to suffer in silence anymore with book 13 of Vinland Saga. The bubble burst with that one for me. I also wasn’t sure if my expectations of Night Fever were just too high, but after a second read I’ve got to agree with you. Great vid as always Chris 👍🏼

Great idea starting with the worst though and I do come here for the personal opinions :') I do feel some channels are so neutral with their overviews/reviews that I'm left not knowing whether I'll like something or not!
You had me worried starting with Vinland Saga, but I'm glad it's not something too bad :')
I do have a VS dilemma at the moment in that I have 5 volumes and was planning to continue then the deluxe edition rumours started and I haven't decided which to collect yet 😂
Interestingly when you were talking about one thing changing your opinion of a book, I totally get that. Can't think of a major example at the moment but there's definitely been some in the past that make some illogical twist/turn that just ruins the immersion.
Even some things that just annoy a bit can "knock a star off" my opinion of a book like recently a fantasy character performed a superhuman leap that was totally uncharacteristic of anything he'd done before and seemed like a quick "plot device" type thing to wrap a fight up without having to get too creative 😂
Another thing that ends up annoying me undoubtedly more than it should is when I spot a typo in a comic - not sure why it makes me so grumpy 😅
Speaking of grumpy: and I'll preface this by saying I have the manflu as if that's any excuse, but I feel like an arse already 🙈 Just wanted to mention the font used in the vid was good for the title but very tricky to read when the individual book info popped up 💜🙊
Hopefully I didn’t cause too much controversy! First, I’ve changed the font for the other vids so that’s down. Second, if you only have 5 I would cut your losses and go for the deluxes, two of those will bring you up too book 6 I think, and the larger size is gonna be better. Plot device which are just there because they have been written into a corner so my head in too and typos if I notice them can annoy me but thankfully I miss them loads.
In defence of Vinland I feel those slower calmer chapters are very much a calm before a storm. The other books aren’t ones that were on my radar and thanks to you I probably won’t bother 😅 I did like how you really broke down why they didn’t resonate with you. Looking forward to your top picks
I love people who defend Vinland! It hurt me bad including it! I do hope it regains some of that drama and momentum it had right up until book 11 I’m sticking with it regardless anyway, it’s already amazing and a mediocre ending won’t spoil the enjoyment I’ve had thus far. Top 5 manga Wednesday, top 5 general Friday 👍
I wouldn't quite put "Night Fever" in my worst of the year, but I do feel some level of staleness happening in the Brubaker/Phillips formula. I really liked "Where the Body Was" though so I do think the pair still have a ton of great stuff they can achieve together, but perhaps it would be nice to start seeing Brubaker and Phillips work with other creatives every now and then.
I think they should see other people! 😂 Basically I agree they are bordering on formulaic at the moment.
I love how carefully you consider each book, even when it ends up being something that didn't resonate with you. 👍

I was reading it, trying my hardest to like it - then was like 'nah!' Don't get me wrong, it's not like I now have doubts about they're future books, just this one wasn't good.
I don't like Exile either. Imo it was not bad, but was not good. Night Fever by Brubaker was my first brubakerish disappointment. Thank you for the video.👌

I didn't expect a brubaker Phillips work in there. I havent read it myself tbf but then I should be more shocked at a Vineland saga book making this list. Your reasoning is sound though.
At the end of this video it's like you're so exasperated talking about these books again like having to relive the trauma of a bad book.
You are not wrong! Going through the images for some of them I was questioning “why am I putting myself through this?!” For you, I suffered for my audience 😂
Honestly the books and creators I love are screwed if they even waver a little as I’m on them!
Yeah I found night fever entertaining but kinda pointless?
I assumed some of the far fetched stuff that happened is a mix of dreams & reality but ultimately I guess I don’t really care much either way.
I did not think it was dream stuff at all, who knows tbh, it obviously wasn’t that clear.
