I was in Intoxica records, where i got £20 for the 1st Green River single. I ran into Dan in there. We hadnt seen each other for years, and he had no idea what i'd been up to in the meantime. We walked out into a stifling Portobello Road. "We should go and see Jim from Thee Hypnotics. He sells everything". No preamble. So thats where we went. He was always lousy at shooting-up, to be fair. I did try and get him off heroin and onto clean (and stronger, truth be told) pharmaceuticals. Showed him the market for said delicacies in Cleveland St, but he was dead set on destruction. So he's there now and im here, with a dog licking my face, and im sorrier than you'll ever know.
What happened to him, were you a close friend of his? Do you have any info on a timeline of your relationship with Dan. I think he is a very amazing and honest artist for a long time I used to think his style was something he was putting on for show to emulate Syd Barrett or Jonathan Richman but watching this short documentary made me see that he really was just that honest and somewhat childlike
