Still makes laugh out loud, I only found this video recently, but when I need cheering up 🤣🤣 It's *so* multi-layered that it has overtaken "clever/intelligent" humour and returned to "stupid" humour 🤣🤣

Science AND comedy, well done! BTW thank you for including American English in your DVD. Should be helpful though I've watched enough Monty Python and Faulty Towers to make it through. Perchance a few regional dialects as well, Brooklyn, Boston, southern drawl? Ya'll keep up the good work! :c)
One thing I notice about Steve, anyone else notice this? His voice is incredibly clear. I'm half deaf, and I thought it was the microphone or the EQ, but wherever we see him it seems the same.
old videos? dont mind if i do, found this from festival of the spoken nerd webpage at random, i remember making a fire tornado as a young child using a record player, a metal tin and some window screen, worked really good but because i was sloppy and only like 7 or 8 years old i didnt realize stability spinning would make it work better

I've known about the electric pickle for years now, done it myself many times. The mysterious thing about this is that, although the current is alternating, and we should therefore expect the light to appear at both poles, it appears at only one. To my knowledge, the reason for this is unknown.
Looks like all the light is coming from one of the nails. I'm not great with electricty, but I assume that that nail is the positive (or red [in Canada, anyway] or "hot") electrode?
No actually it is 230v AC so the polarity are constantly changing. There is most like slightly higher resistance there so it gets hotter else its the other way around and it's more conductive allowing the electrons to change "level" easier. Also in Canada they have 120v AC supply so no positive or negative either.
Did you get one? If you still don't have one I will buy one for you. Lol I am so shocked right now, somehow I've been watching both of these guy's videos for quite a while but somehow had zero clue that they knew each other! I feel ridiculous
I'm not a fan of stad up usually, so I always made a point of ignoring this or Matt's stand up videos. But I actually really enjoyed that. You got a laugh out of me more than once, which doesn't usually come easily for me.
Well you need a high enough current so that the pickle heats up and cannot dissipate the heat fast enough, leading to the water inside boiling to steam that has no way out, the problem is that it already has two holes where the steam can release ... explosion is not likely to happen.
I see on your site that you are doing shows in the UK now. Do you have any plans to do show in other locations in Europe? I'm from The Netherlands and would like to see the three of you live, but I'm not sure how practical and costly it is to go to London for one show.
It would have done wonders for when I was going through school we got a chance to see things similar material that Grabs a young mind and shows how great education can be but, trying to motivate students is to much to ask I'm American Public schools! It's a concept some call Karma! best nerd joke ever. to be specific 😂

You've heard of the potato clock, but now witness the majesty that is...the pickle lamp! :D
I wonder, if you hook a pickle up to a potato, will it work as an emergency torch?

It's what Stewart & Cohen would call "lies to children".
Are you suggesting to replace all of the UK's streetlights with pickles?
If not, why not?
That would be impossible to do since pickles can't exist within the UK. As soon as a pickle enters the UK, it becomes a gherkin.
LED would save more electricity 👍
More people will try to eat the bulbs, that's why.
5:28hands down one of the best jokes I've heard. Honestly didn't know Steve Mould was so hilarious.
my 4th grade teacher was great and showed us that experiment, then afterwards let a student eat the pickle
+Joseph Nisbet ha! That's brilliant.
"let"
Do you mean "forced"?
Yum. Burnt pickle... 😝
seems like a good deal to me, you know you get like edible light
And then the student contaned the salt, so she stuck him to the mains.
Muhahahaha!
Purchased the download version. Looking forward to watching it later!
lol at "subtitles in binary for inaccessibility". xD
Thanks! I ordered the download version right after seeing this vid!

I have constructed an L E P (Light-Emitting Pickle) on several occasions at home. Usually after having reached a certain point at a party.
I'm just in the comments to appreciate the video description. :D

I have done the pickle experiment at home. Best to do it outside and be very careful. It smells and if you screw up it can absolutely electracute you.

I've cooked sausages that way. They are normally cold in the middle and burned and quite hot at the ends.

I leave this under every video I watched, it helps the algorithm..
Don't use wooden or plastic baskets? Pickle light works just fine. How do I get rid of the smell? :)
It's pickle RIIICK!
I guess it varies from pickle to pickle, but what voltage or amperage would be required to result in an exploding pickle?
Well you need a high enough current so that the pickle heats up and cannot dissipate the heat fast enough, leading to the water inside boiling to steam that has no way out, the problem is that it already has two holes where the steam can release ... explosion is not likely to happen.
