- Andi Peters and his final link as broom cupboard presenter on Children's BBC. There's a tour of BBC1 transmission (seemingly staffed by about 1000 people more than do the same job today), followed by a surprise creaky old clip, handover with Toby Anstis, Telly Addicts trail and then a bonus link into Neighbours!
I've been told the Christina that Andi mentions at 1:58 is the person who operated Edd the Duck, which explains the "you don't know her but you probably do" comment!
Probably 03.09.93. All copyright remains BBC.
Back in the days when children's TV's most popular programmes would get between 5-8 million viewers, something today's mainstream British broadcasters would now *kill* for for their evening schedules.
I believe that Andi Peters always had a shiver down his spine especially when it came to presenting to a whole range of children nationwide
0:45 the Internet is an amazing thing because of instances like this. Growing up it was an amazing day when you got to see, very very rarely, the broom cupboard from a different angle. To get to see what it was really like. How big was it. What did they see when they sat in the chair. It was always a mystery. I hated high school but oddly, the broom cupboard and childrens BBC was a comfort from the crap days of school. When I eventually grew up & was given a TV for my room, I migrated to late night ITV and shows like, The Equaliser, Tour Of Duty, Midnight Caller & In bed with medinner.
True, I think this was one of the only times they ever showed it from a different angle.
This is a brilliant clip. Thanks ever so much for putting this up.
I was reading about this the other day on the CBBC Broom Cupboard History site
I can date this to within a week for you - that edition of Telly Addicts went out on Monday 6th September 1993, so this was broadcast somewhere between the Tuesday and the Saturday beforehand. (Can't have been the Sunday, else the Telly Addicts trailer would have said 'tomorrow'.)
According to an interview on the Broom Cupboard website, Andi Peters came back to Children's BBC a couple of years later to present the birthdays in place of one of the regular presenters who failed to turn up after getting stuck in a lift.
andi peters is awesome
@LarryBundyJr Toby was on CBBC 92-95, but the broom cupboard was dropped in summer 1994 so he was only the main presenter in it for just under a year
Not sure sadly - it did indeed have Roger Lloyd Pack in it, but unless anyone has a Radio Times from this period I'm not sure.
I don't know what that last programme was, but it apparently starred Jake Wood later to become Max Branning!
Archer’s Goon - typecast as Ginger!
3:50 Broom cupboard is long gone and now neighbours.
It'll be June/July - someone has sent in a drawing to do with Wimbledon on the back wall, and Andi is doing an impression of Des Lynam which must coincide!
Philip and Andi were the best Broom Cupboard presenters.
@njm1971nyc i wasn't going to reply to your comment but when you mentioned him having a black face i found it to be quite sad i genuinely believe that he was appreciated for being him and nothing else just as in the same way when live and kicking ended( the personality not the face).
The clip was broadcast 1993 as Andi was leaving to present Live and Kicking, which began October 1993. The programme is either a repeat or was made some time before broadcast.
He is now presenting get-away competitions for ITV's "Good Morning Britain".
That old clip can only date from either July or August (or very early September) 1991, thanks to the "CBBC" neon sign behind them. Something which was a complete waste of money seeing as it was on screen for only a matter of weeks- why didn't they just hold off the new set until the revamp?
I thought the twins had left Neighbours ages before 1993...
I was really hoping neighbours would be on
actually this is from 1992 as that is the date on the endcap and the programme's name was archer's goon yethboth
I think this was from September/October 1993. "Archer's Goon" could have well have been an repeat run. If not, some programmers put their copyright years on their properties produced the previous year before broadcast.
"May you do the broom cupboard for many years" - well maybe one...
yay I love Toby!
Andi peters and phillip Scofield were the best
It was common that the cbbc presenter would do a link into Neighbours
*Yes it was!* The BBC would normally show the globe ident with the CBBC presenters then announcing the link. Think it stopped in the mid 90s.
@@SuperTed19021 Yes I think that's right the last CBBC presenter todo so was the presenter you see in this clip
They did it until they left the broom cupboard in 1994
@@mkbuddy I wasn't so sure when it stopped thanks for the info
Why wasn't Edd The Duck there?
*Just what I thought!* It was not Andi Peters' CBBC without Edd in his presence!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1993?
Well Fellas .... Gail or Gillian ?
definately archers goon, the names Erskin and Tarquin ring a bell
Looking for the video him burning his lips on the plasma tv lol
well in that case then archer's goon was a repeat
There's a Diana Wynne Jones that I'd like to see Ghibli do.
Think it was. Originally broadcasted in the winter of 1992. This has got to be from either Summer or Autumn 1993.
Never a fan of Toby or Andy Crane.
I agree about Toby but not Andy Crane. *Just me mind!* He was a diamond in cow pie compared to children's tv presenters that have come since both him and Andi here.
@njm1971nyc what you said about him been a black face for kids TV you make it sound like that's the only reason why people like him but that's not his fault as i said before why cant you accept that a lot of people like him not because he is black but because he appealed to them.Just look at Live & Kicking on his last show with Emma Forbes, now if you can't understand that well then god help you.
Jesus fucking Christ its hardly Paul McCartney leaving The Beatles is it?
Maybe for kids growing up in the early to mid 90s (when there was next to none children's TV choice and thus you grow a rapport with whoever was presenting CBBC/CITV etc.) it could have well been. An *completely* different time and era for kid content.
