Herding dogs are bred not to attack the animals they are herding (farmers would lose valuable livestock), so this dog actually went against her decades of selective ancestral breeding and shifted into hunter mode. 💪

Oh yeah, definitely there’s no way a Chihuahua or Shih Tzu could’ve done that. I mean, of course a Chihuahua would’ve been barking its head off because they’re actually bred to do that but I don’t think I chihuahua would have been able to get enough food for itself and survive.
Agreed, the only time I would say a water is "infested" is if sharks are not known for ever being there and suddenly loads appear, that would be an infestation.
Sophie Tucker you go girl & Hollywood should make a movie out of your doggie life & this harrowing adventure! & May you be rewarded the rest of your life being happy, content & want or need for nothing!
I wouldn’t say 6 miles is completely insane in a life or death situation. I’m just gonna extrapolate from the handful of mile swims I did growing up which takes about 45 mins at a slow pace where you can float on your back for a while to rest etc. I feel like a lot of people could do it if the alternative is drowning to death… it would be like 5 hours of moderate exercise, no duck walk but not absolutely crazy
These dogs, Australian cattle dogs, are the result of the British crossing their sheep dogs, which didn't tolerate the Australian heat, with the native dingos. I had mine for 17 years, and he was the smartest dog I've ever known. His ashes guard my door. Sophie Tucker is an amazing survivor but I'm not surprised.❤

My friend’s dog ran away back in the 6th grade, and she was heartbroken. She had had him for 5 years, and was her best friend. Then in 8th grade, she went to a dog shelter and somehow found him! I have a cattle dog mix and this doesn't surprise me at all. Mine was feral and on her own at 7 months when she was picked up by animal control. She has more game drive than any dog I've ever had. She's a killer and athletic af.
Usually your dog doesn't go up on deck They usually stay down below so she wasn't being careless. She was probably shocked to realize the dog was not down below. Most dogs don't want to be up on deck and maybe she thought Sophie was down below it very rarely happens that dogs fall off except for prancy pets. Big dogs usually just find a place to lay and they stay. They know that It's not safe to be running around on the deck. The only time they'll get up is to pee and they will usually come to you to ask to be taken to a spot on the ship. Usually your dog is on a lunge line so they cannot fall over and you have them wearing a life vest and they are tied into the ship so if they are up on deck so I'm not sure how her dog ended up falling overboard If it was that large of a ship I'm sure she didn't expect her to be up on deck. Probably a deck hand opened a door they should not have.
Can't blame the owner for thinking the worse either. Ik we could say she should've been paying more attention but it's very easy to lose focus when having a good time especially on a boat. Ik thats not really an excuse but still. Glad the dog had a strong will tho and survived and glad the owner tried looking and eventually found them even if it took 4 months later
