I just started this video but the way there are so many ways for things to go horrible horribly wrong for Cindy here lmao - expired eggs, salty broth, not paying total attention on boiling soup, shitty books. Truly the most dangerous game.
I’m glad the eggs were fine even though they were old because I never want her to go through the horror of cracking an expired egg into your dish accidentally and a *totally black rotten yolk* falls out and ruins the whole pot
Against Technoableism sounds great. We’ve been having discussions in my workplace about how accessibility shouldn’t be framed as making disabled people ‘normal’; it can provide benefits to everyone. The most common example is larger bathroom stalls with grab bars; they not only give wheelchair users what they need - they can be helpful for people trying to use a bathroom with young kids, people with reduced mobility, people who get claustrophobic in a ‘regular’ stall, etc.
I can't remember the name for it but it's actually a design principle that emphasizes how when you make something work for the people having the hardest time with that thing you make it better for everyone, like your example or curb cuts for sidewalks, multi-dimension adjustable seats in cars, or push-plates vs pull-handles on public doors. There's a couple groups trying to help certify businesses and neighborhoods as Autism Friendly and it turns out that when you make places less sensory overstimulating, fixing issues only neurodivergent people usually even notice, and making calming places to retreat to, EVERYONE likes it better!
“She ate that man’s eyeballs” me when I heard carly rae jepsen sing “who gave you eyes like that said you could keep them” in the song I Really Like You
I'm so happy she covered this book! It's genuinely one of my favorites! It's definitely the type of weird fiction for weird girls that I love LMAO I also recommend Maeve fly for anyone who enjoyed The Eyes Are the Best Part. Maeve Fly is a lot more graphic and definitely extreme body horror than TEATBP. But same vibes. Like American Psycho for the girlies. 😂
As an aroace person myself, I was curious about Dear Wendy. Thanks for taking a look at it. The loneliness of a couple-focused world when you're not romantically attracted to anyone (what my flavor of aro is) is something I feel deep in my soul. It sounds like the book gets that. On my reading list it goes
yea the characters talk about being ace a lot - not sure if u would get anything new from it as an ace person urself, but for an outsider like me it did give me more clarity!
@@withcindy Ok, you be a terrible witch that messes up spells, which lead to a lawsuit for unsafe hexing, so you lose your magic license, so you take a job in insurance.
Cindy it’s me six days later with a hot tip: I am also afraid of putting things in boiling water, so I put the on the soup ladle and then gently ease them into the pot. It works really well when I’m making soft boiled eggs and need exactly 6 minutes (vs putting them into the pot at the beginning and then heating up the water with them in the pot already.)
About your stew: you can either make a second batch of just the broth and cook some greens/veggies in it, let it cool & then mix (you can also freeze some portions of it so you con’t have to eat it every day), or you can just separate some of the broth into a second pot and proceed with cooking some veggies in it. This is just in case this is still possible, or for the next time you run into that problem. Now about the books: I think the first book you talked about is absolutely up my alley rn. I love fantasy, but I’m just generally a bit tired of very high stakes stories atm. I think it’s partly bc so many gruesome high stakes things are happening in our world and together with private, individual stress, so I just can’t deal with them in fiction too. The book about the witches sounds very interesting too and I’ll note it for a possible future read ♥️
Cindy providing her incisive and compassionate views (which I complete agree with) about trauma response and mental health while standing over a stove of dumpling stew without vegetables is one of the highlights of my day. Also as a Gen X-er, please eat veggies kids. Your middle aged body will thank you.
Just looked up Dear Wendy and I've never added a book to my TBR so fast. I always see plenty of books with ace representation, but as an aromantic, this is one of the only books I've heard of with explicitly aromantic characters, which I love. Thanks for talking about it, it's lonely out here, haha

Hi! I think this has probably been said before, but just in case, that egg-test is not 100% guaranteed! The float test figures out if the inside of the egg has air bubbles or not from drying out. That doesn't really have a correlation with it being bad though! It's mostly a test for age of the egg. :)
