The spot you're fishing at start of video is a good spot to fish for Bonito when they're running. Also on overcast days or early mornings with haze use a 8" white grub like the Berkeley white saltwater grub or a 6" Mogambo. Jig the structures or rock piles for bass.
I’m fairly new to SD and learning more about all the awesome nature to get into around here. Fishing seems like a great excuse to spend more time at the beach - I moved up to North County and would love any tips on areas near Carlsbad that would be quiet and good for beginners (like less busy so I don’t accidentally hook someone learning to cast, for one!) Love your videos - your energy is infectious!
You should keep a net on board for those halibut !,,, nice fish !, planning a trip to puerto penesco to fish cortez halibut off the beach, i'm in Tucson so it's a shorter drive for me, will be in Diego when the yellow tail come back !
Awesome vid! You and Warbait's videos have greatly helped me with my fishing skills since I moved to San Diego. I do have one little suggestion to anyone else reading this. Please dont feed seals and\or birds. This teaches them that human=fish. Getting your bait or catch stolen by seals sucks and hooking a bird sucks even more. I know most seals and birds are already conditioned to this but throwing them macks doesnt help.
This was the absolute best!!!! Sitting at work. Computer down all morning. Received pop up and clicked...... BAM!!! Not one but two of my favorite fishy guys slay'n em!!!!! I would rather be fishing but this was the next best thing!!! Warbaits rocks!!! Rodney Marquez rocks!!! Made the boring wait while waiting for IT a bit nicer!! Thanks guys!!!!!
Me and my friends unintentionally catch sculpin and usually cut the line because some of the aggressive ones thrash around so much you can’t even try to get the hook out
Growing up my pops and i fished that exact area!!! I love to see my old fishing spots on you tube. Next time im out that way im gonna hit you up, lets go fishing. Shore, boat, salt, or fresh I dont care. New sub because of this video.
Caught, or landed or brought to the sea wall a monster Halibut tonight (8/4/2020), at least 8 lb. in Glorietta Bay this evening! It was a dream as I was about to go home after an hour and a half without getting a single bite. Three casts of the Lucky Craft Flash Minnow and the water exploded. Ultra-lite gear with 8 lb. braid and the fish was tearing off line with me in a state of dismay. Heart pounding and adrenaline pumping as my hands frantically trying to increase the drag on my Shimano 2500 Symetre reel. Out gunned but we managed to get him to the sea wall with my 6'6" Cabellas fresh water Lt. rod. No net, no gloves. This is what happens when you are un-prepared, never again. Way too heavy to lift, I never dreamed there were fish that big in Glorietta Bay.
the CAlif DFW has some seasonal rules on Sculpin that have to followed there numbers got depleted . Great eating however putting a bigger female back is the right thing to do.
I've been here in San Diego for most of my life but haven't gotten a chance to get out on the water yet. I wish I could learn the trade, but it's just never come my way. I'll keep an eye out for you guys from the shore! Ahah
Great video! Two great guys too! I’ve had the pleasure of a fishin Mission with Afran. Next video for you two Rodney is a kayak collaboration fishing video. Catch the yak fever Rodney!!!
You got plenty of options out there. A few of your RUclips buddies have multiple kayaks. Hit em up! Maybe you can make it out with the #Yak_ninjaz. We'd have a great time! Get you on that yak fever!
That's an awesome video!!! One of the best videos I've seen about fishing SD Bay!!! One thought, tho. Really not a good idea to bounce Corvina into the boat if you're planning on releasing them. They're so strong in the water but once they come out, they're really a fragile fish and die easily. Would be cool seeing big Halibut CPR with good techniques too. I love eating halibut as much as anyone else, but it's good to put them back sometimes and teach people how to do that without hurting the fish or their tails so they can live. Again, awesome video!!!
The bigger halibut was just came to the boat to fast and was not ready to be gaffed yet. You can see it making multiple boils and still raw green. Usually you try and wear out em out a bit before they come to the boat . Also when there this green they tend to snap at everything and they have serious teeth to inflict wounds. Gaff shot goes in the collar straight up and straight up, the weight of the fish should drive the hook in if not the gaff is to dull and the tip needs to be sharpened with a file. Personally would also rather eat the Corbina which has much more flavor than the Halibut.
@@RodneyMarquezFishingChannel Warbaits are great. wish they had a bit bigger keeper pin to hold the plastics in place but there great lure none the less. Works on a load of species even Florida Snook as a found out last summer. Look forward to new creations keep up the good work and tight lines to you and yours
If you don’t mind. What was your setup as far as line size? The flaties seem to be going off at the lagoon in Carlsbad off the jetty. I need a legal in my life. Thanks in advance
How do u only have 10k subscribers ur my favorite fishing RUclipsr you should have at least 100k subscribers. U deserve it man keep up the great vids for San Diego anglers
Sculpin yes the spines are poisonous but if your careful you can catch and cook and they are good also they like holes in the bottom you can find them in a hole in packs. They are excellent eating.
If you look on the party boats catch counts you see them. They are not sculpin as called but a scorpion fish the filet is mostly both sides of the head and they are so good ! the meat is not poisonous and the fish is white like cod but tastes better.
Nice vid! I'm from norcal usually peep out the local guys Fisherman's Life and Philosophy D buuut Im so glad to come across some SD action. Keep that quality footage coming!
I use a variety of rods and reels. But the green one is a medium fast lews spinning rod combo. I like it , as it was a cheap walmart rod I purchased :D
lol.. point the gaff hook DOWN, line it up with your thumb (for me, my RH thumb, I'm a righty), with the opposing hand helping steady the shot, so you track where it's pointed. come over the top of the fish and gaff through the collar whenever possible. all one movement, keeps the line out of harms way, and gives a secure hold to the fish..
Epic video and adventure!
WARBAITS FISHING Great catch! Awesome halibut!
WARBAITS FISHING your a beast dawg!!
