I know what you mean. Kate Bush records don't pop up very often in stores around here, either. However, one album that I do see with some regularity is 'The Dreaming.' Keep an eye out for that one because, if you do spot a copy, I think you'd really like it. As I said in the video, it's in my Top 3 from her catalog. Thanks Jeff!
Hello Rob, Just to let you for future reference, I did my Morrissey collection in two parts. I also did a Smiths collection as well but I think it was just my 7" collection which I am most proud of. I have added a lot more since then to both collections. So my advice will be to wait because I am going to do an updated Morrissey addition and include all the new buys in one post. Thanks for your interest. I will try to remember to let you know when I post it. ~ TOR/Boston Hello to the family~
Hi Rob, I am looking at the new marble colored 'Hounds Of Love' and it says EMI America on the back with the letters/numbers ST -17171. As a matter of fact I just threw the vinyl in a Mofi sleeve because the inside insert was torn on three sides. That in itself tells me that it is an original copy. I did it from someone on eBay so that even explains more. The vinyl itself does not sound too bad but not too excellent either. Great to talk to you again my friend~ TOR
Awesome video. My top 3 Bush albums would be The Dreaming, The Red Shoes and Never for Ever. Favourite song: The Infant Kiss. Just recently started listening to Aerial, Director's Cut and 50 Words. So far I find Aerial to be a really great album!
The Dreaming is very possibly my favourite Kate Bush album and I also like Never For Ever but The Red Shoes is probably my least favourite ... I do however, rate Moments of Pleasure highly.
Thanks Brenden! I think you and I may have talked about Kate's music in the past. Regardless, I know the kind of love you're talking about! Thanks for checking this out.
May I say that this is the nicest collection of Kate Bush that I have ever seen in my life Rob. I compare this detailed collection to my Morrissey collection. You have her catalog pretty much wrapped up which is not too easy to do. I learned about her popularity among collectors through my cousin in NY and the many Gabriel/Crimson collectors that live out there. She seems to be popular with the Gabriel crowd. I just picked up the marble vinyl for 'Hounds' recently. Very nice post~ TOR/Boston
Hey Rob, Speaking of fan clubs. Once upon a time you used to be able to go to the offices of record companies and get promo stuff of artists, you can get 8X10's, bio's and other juicy artifacts of your favorite artists. I used to go to 75 Rockefeller Plaza to Warner/Atlantic to get a bunch of Stones goodies. I used to go there so much the office guys used to hold stuff for me. They gave me store display items and such. It was a great time! Anyway, bye for now, Rob.
Yay! Aerial is really good. I wish I could find a copy of that on vinyl at a reasonable price. It's interesting that Hounds of Love is not in your list. Unusual for a Kate Bush fan, although your list is great! I just recently got a copy of The Red Shoes on vinyl rom a friend in the UK and, right now, it's the pride of my Kate Bush collection. Thanks for watching!
I am definitely into Peter Gabriel! Hearing Kate Bush on backing vocals of "Games Without Frontiers" is what sparked my interest in her music. (She was far from a household name here in the US back in the early 80s.) Regarding my selling The Single File... big regret. I don't know that I was "desperate" for cash, but I can tell you that, back then, I had to sell things to afford to buy other things. That sad part is that, now, I have no idea what the money for that box funded.
I’m collecting anything colored vinyl she had. Kick Inside, Hounds of Love, the four song EP mini album all have multiple color variations. Just bout the unauthorized Cathy Demos on colored clear vinyls recently. Love them!
Thanks for your very kind words! As I mentioned in the video, I had a bunch of other Kate Bush stuff (7" and 12" singles, etc.) but stupidly sold them in the 90s when I wasn't "doing" much vinyl. Slowly, those pieces are making their way back into the collection. Some with the help of other members of the vinyl community right here on RUclips.
great to see your Kate collection. hope you find all the stuff you sold some day. don't understand how some fans don't like Aerial, it's one of the most beautiful albums ever (A Coral Room, Bertie, Sunset..) but my favorite is The Dreaming. Thanks for the great video!
Hi David. After I posted this video last night, yours came up in the related videos column. Thanks for the kind words about my collection but yours is certainly impressive, too. One advantage you have over me is that you live in the UK (at least I believe you do) and there are more of Kate's records floating around over there than there are in the US. Take care!
Yes! In fact, my wife and daughter are also VW fans, probably from hearing them around the house and in the car so often. I caught them live, a year or two ago, in Chicago. They were every bit as fun as I expected them to be. Have you heard any news about a third album?
Thanks for the kind words! They really mean a lot to me. You're right about PG introducing Kate to the Fairlight. I had forgotten that fact. The album where it most influenced her arrangements was, without a doubt, The Dreaming. You should definitely check that album out sometime! One of my favorites ... of any artist.
That would have been really cool! I used to get miscellaneous music biz swag from guys I knew that owned record stores, like the Whole Story flats I show in this video, but some of those have gone out of business and some are in a city in which I no longer live. Thanks for the comments!
One of those serendipitous collecting moments was when I found that Experiment IV EP/Single thing. It was in the used vinyl new arrivals section at my favorite (and only) local shop and in near mint condition. The rerecording of Wuthering Heights is one of my favorite songs, and I found this at the peak of my obsession with the song. Thanks for the knowledge contained in this entry! Kate Bush is a fascinating artist.
(part 2 of 2) Kate Bush may be hard to find on vinyl, but if you find it at a decent price, get it! Honestly, I'd just start digging through dollar bins, checking out thrift stores and flea markets. Don't go looking for something specific, just "graze." I bet you'll find a lot of stuff you want! Speaking of all that, though be patient and don't pay good money for records in bad condition. 95% of the time, the beat up record you're looking at will show up some other day in great shape somewhere.
I collect both vinyl and CDs. I'm not big on downloads, although I have some from records that I purchased. (Many new releases and new reissues come with download codes for the entire album.) To get back into vinyl, seek out used record stores in your area. In addition to racks of good used records, many will also sell used turntables and other stereo equipment. Be patient and picky and you'll bring home some good stuff. (part 1 of 2... stupid RUclips character limit!)
Definitely! I've seen Gabriel several times over the years. The first was in the early 80s and the most recently was during last year's New Blood tour. Always an exceptional show!
Yes, it was her collaboration with Gabriel on "Games Without Frontiers" that opened the doors to the wonderful world of Kate Bush for me. I've been a big fan ever since. In addition to the records you listed, keep an eye out for 'The Dreaming.' It's a close cousin to PG's 'Security.' They were both rather enamored with the Fairlight synthesizer at the time, and both records have a similar vibe. At least to me.
Hello again, Gary. Thanks in advance for keeping an eye out for KB 12" singles that you don't have. Let me know if you're on the lookout for anything that I can help you find! Looking forward to seeing your Kate 45s!
Yes, I should have said that in the video. Interestingly, as much as that cover has heavy Asian influences, I don't believe that's the cover on the Japanese pressing. I believe that's one of the covers that I still don't have. It's kind of a bust shot, if I recall correctly.
I was certainly hoping that you would catch this video, Arturo, knowing how big a Kate Bush fan you are. Thanks for the tip on the German ATR Lionheart. I'll definitely keep and eye out for that one!
'The Dreaming' is not Kate's most accessible album, that's for sure. It was one of the first records of hers that I ever heard, though, so it's pretty special to me. It's also one of her most adventurous albums, which I have really come to appreciate. 'The Sensual World' is awesome, though. I love that record too. If you're unhappy with the sound of your 'Red Shoes' CD, you should try to find the deluxe edition of 'Director's Cut'. On it, she remastered 'The Red Shoes' for a more analog sound.
'The Red Shoes' is indeed VERY hard to find on vinyl. You should be able to find a copy of the Canadian pressing of 'The Kick Inside' more easily. You might even see if you can work out some sort of trade with one of the Canadian members of the VC. There are several; glowing00cabbage, DoctorDeadwax, beninski707, and GuessImJustASpudBoy, are the ones that come to mind right away, but there are others still. Not really a fan of bootlegs, either, but I know what you mean. Rob
Ariel is a really wonderful album and never heard myself any 'Kate Bush fan' say they do not like this album. All my friends who love Kate Bush love this album. When I had the pure honour and sheer joy of seeing her live in 2014 Ariel formed the seconds half of her amazing show and rightly so too it turned out.
Hi Rob , we're both short of the same Kate Bush album- Aerial , like you ,at the time I was going through a fallow vinyl period and just bought the cd . I could kick myself now as it would have been a very sound investement! I noticed your German copy of "the Kick Inside" has the wording "featuring the single wuthering heights" on it. If this is actually printed on it would be a variation on the UK pressing which has the same unusual photo.
Thanks Mikko! Those two albums are quite the extremes for her, both in terms of time and style. If you hear something you like in either of them, try to find albums like 'The Dreaming' and 'Hounds of Love.' I have a feeling that 'The Dreaming,' in particular, might really appeal to you.
I'm delighted to hear you say that. I really love Aerial, yet many people I talk to (including Kate fans) turn their noses up at the album. "Beautiful" is right, but that's only the beginning! The Dreaming is brilliant, though, isn't it. A definite masterpiece for her. Strangely, it's also the album that tends to turn non-Kate fans off the most!
I agree! I love hearing the alternate versions of those songs (except "Deeper Understanding," that is!) It's a great collection of "remixes," so to speak.
Great to hear from another Kate Bush fan and another fan of Aerial. I know exactly what you mean about some versions on Director's Cut being more appealing than their original versions. Just not Deeper Understanding! Your comment about having a copy of The Dreaming framed made me smile. That's such a great record! That one and Hounds of Love are always vying for my favorite Kate Bush album.
I love Kare Bush.My favorite is "the sensual world" but I like all her albums,But I don't share your enthousiasm towards "the dreaming" fhat's really a hard record to get into I find. But I'm so jealous that you own "the red shoes",That's a fantastic album(I own the cd but it sounds so lame!)and it 's so hard to find a copy of it.Here in Montreal there is arecord store who USED to have it.The owner told me he had a couple of copies.Sold them for a hundred bucks each.Sikes!!
Great post Rob! Some more nice vclt. I think if we combined our collections we might make 1 complete collection sans Arial. I'll keep my eyes open for any 12 inch singles for you. I'm looking myself but I'm sure there will be dupes. Just got my first batch of Blake sleeves in the mail and might just start with my Kate 45s. Might make a little post as well. Take care.
wow.... hounds of love and sensual world gatefold !!! there is also an ON STAGE gatefold... I've seen it, but I don't have it. mine is just the plain cover
Nice!!!! I need that Canadian version of "The Kick Inside" - looks great! Also need "The Red Shoes" on vinyl, seems to be hard to find! She has some interesting bootlegs too, not really a fan of bootlegs but you can find some interesting things.
I've seen videos where you hold up and talk about Morrissey and/or Smiths records, I just don't think I've seen any devoted strictly to them. The Smiths 7" video is sounding very familiar, though. I may have seen that. I don't know about you, but it's getting harder and harder to keep up with everything in the VC! Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that it's a thriving community. I just feel like I miss more than I catch, these days. Sorry if I missed your Morrissey videos, Rob. I'll look for them!
I love Aerial, too! I loved seeing your collection-- Kate is so wonderful. I had the same feelings about Deeper Understanding on Director's Cut (although I actually prefer several of the other songs to their originals)-- and I've framed my copy of the Dreaming because it is just such a great album (and it was my first Kate album!)
I've still got my single file box set that I bought way back in '84. I was gutted that I didn't manage to get a ticket to see her recently. Tried calling the 'phone line and going onto the internet the day the tickets went on sale but they were all snapped up in 15 minutes. A friend of mine went to see her and she was so overwhelmed by the entire performance that she was speechless. Kate performed 'The Ninth Wave' in its entirety which I would have sold my soul to the devil to see. The only thing is she didn't perform any material from the first four albums which I thought was a shame. I'm hoping that she does another tour. I've been into Kate Bush since 'Wuthering Heights' came out back in '78 and still have my vinyl copies of the first five albums. I have the UK pressing of 'The Kick Inside' which has the same cover as the German pressing. Never understood why the US/Canadian pressings had different covers. Anybody have any ideas?
Love this! I am very jealous of your collection! Kate Bush is a goddess! :D the kick inside and the hounds of love are defo the best! Your vinyl are in great condition! Desperate for the red shoes vinyl!
I agree that The Dreaming and Aerial are highly underrated. The Dreaming has some completely bonkers Bush tracks like Get Out of My House that really show her vocal range and challenge many of the "female vocalist" conventions and expectations of the time.
I love the whole story on VHS Tape, and a 8" laser disc a sensual word.I'm not a vinyl collector anymore,But I did get a few Kate Bush LPs,from a record club.Nearly 30 years ago.Only played Hounds of Love. Enjoying the Vinyl and vintage gear videos .
I've got my tickets to see Kate 'live' in London. I never thought I'd see the day she'd play live shows again and I'm _praying_ the world doesn't end on or before Sept 2nd so I can realise a dream...
Wow! I am simultaneously jealous of you and delighted for you at the same time. That's a dream that I'll probably never see become a reality, but you can bet I'll be looking for videos from those shows on RUclips! Enjoy!
I know! It REALLY frustrates me that I used to own a copy and sold it. I wouldn't want to sell it now, if I had it. I would just love to have it in my collection.
I haven't heard that song, but I'll look for it here on RUclips. I'm glad that you found some record shops near you! It's exciting to think about what kind of treasures you'll find in them. Good luck with the hunt!
You have an outstanding KB vinyl collection. I stopped buying at around the Red Shoes. But I do have the Boxed singles file, mint and all never played.
I sold my white label, gatefold, Kick Inside LP for £15 in 1985. When Kate signed it for me she was astonished I had a copy! I still cant believe I let it go.
I appreciate all that information! I didn't know most of those details. I was just saying to sundoger1 how I've heard a rumor of a Single File-type DVD compilation coming out later this year. Your info certainly fills in the blanks a bit more. A couple years ago, a friend of mine made me a couple nice DVDr compilations of all Kate's videos, since I only had the older ones on VHS with The Whole Story. Still, it will be nice to have an "official" video compilation from her!
Wish I'd kept my Single File as well. The Dreaming is my favorite if I had to choose, but that "Babooshka" EP is great especially the live James and the Cold Gun.
(part 2 of 2) I first heard Kate Bush singing backing vocals on Peter Gabriel's "Games Without Frontiers" and soon became a big fan. Then there's the duet they did for "Don't Give Up" on Gabriel's So album. They are friends and musical collaborators, which is undoubtedly where the connection you mentioned comes from. Congrats on the marbled 'Hounds of Love' that you picked up! Original pressing or the new audiophile reissue? TOR/Chicago
Glad to find this, years later and hope you are well... Did you ever get Aerial on vinyl? Agree that it's a wonderful album. I've been a huge Kate Bush fan for decades. Cheers
Hi John. It sounds like I may need to procure a copy of that kite cover of 'The Kick Inside' that doesn't have the "Wuthering Heights" wording on it. If you find any spare copies over there for a decent price, let me know!
That explaines a lot. Or does it. Cover is different. If you put the album name in google and you use picturesearch, cover looks like the first picture links it finds.
Thanks again for the kind words, Henry. If I ever need a press agent, I'm calling you! Seriously, I'm honored by the things you said. It's nice to know that some of the little extras that I put in these videos are not going unnoticed. Thank you so much.
It took me a little while but I have just finished my Kate Bush collection. The Red Shoes and Arian were so expensive but they are well worth it. Does this make me part of the vinyl community! 😺
Thank you for taking the time to watch some of my videos. I hope I can keep them interesting enough that you'll watch even if they're not featuring your favorite artist! I will probably have another Kate Bush video coming soon because I've got a bunch of Kate stuff that isn't in this video. Stay tuned!
That doesn't sound pathetic at all. The only part of that I would question is the "LOL" you threw in there. I think it would be really cool to have Kate's albums framed and on your walls!
This is amazing KB is my all time favorite artist and I'm trying to get the vinyls to get them framed and hang them in my house LOL. I hope it doesn't sound pathetic.
it's not a rare album here as it sold quite well so I'll keep an eye out for it and we can maybe swap as I'd like a copy of the US cover which is very different to the UK version , its another of those variations which I never knew about until I saw your video
I've only ever seen the three that I have, and the Japanese cover which I still need to find. I have heard that there are as many as six, though. If you ever find those two (Yugoslavia and Uruguay) let me know how to find your blog. I'd love to see what they look like! I'm pretty sure I had the first edition, numbered Single File. At the time I sold it, MANY years ago, I just didn't understand how rare and valuable it would be. Definitely kicking myself over that. Thanks for the info!!
Hello there. I showed my copy of Never For Ever in this video at 3:33. Definitely one of my Top 3 Kate Bush albums! Does your Bulgarian copy have different cover art?
That doesn't sound all that creepy. I think the Ninth Wave side of the record, in particular, would be a perfect way to be sent off. It's a freakin' masterpiece of musical imagery! Good to hear from you, and thanks for the kind words.
Thanks so much, Rob. I am proud of this collection, but sorely miss the other items that I had and sold. It was at a time when I tended to sell certain things to afford to buy other music. Some stuff I regret much more than others! Have you done a video showing your entire Morrissey collection? I missed it if you did. What's it titled? (continued)
Whoa that is an impressive collection. What kind of a turntable do you use? Looks like monoblock amplifiers too. I'm going to start collecting vinyls but I've never owned a turntable so any recommendation would be nice. I assume you're an audiophile? I buy SACD's myself but far too few artists release them. The reason I've never owned a turntable is because I'm from the generation that never knew a world without CD's or mp3's. I must admit though that good analogue sound beats compressed mp3's any day of the week. Kate Bush vinyls aren't sold brand new are they? Bit of pity in that case because I read somewhere that Kate herself never liked the digital sound and prefers the warm, natural sound of vinyls. And no, I didn't know about Kate Bush either until a friend of mine sent me a video of Wuthering Heights on youtube. I grew up when she had her 12 year hiatus so naturally she didn't exist as an artist to me. Is it possible to wear the vinyls by playing them too often? If so then it's the prime reason I'm not to keen to purchase used vinyls and ruin my experience of them. I'll have a look at your other vids to learn about more awesome music.
Hi Jeff. I definitely appreciate those singles, my friend. Besides being great adds to my collection, they sparked my interest in trying to get copies of all those singles of hers that I once had. Wait just a minute. I should be cursing you for that! (just kidding) Thanks again!
And YES Arial is an AMAZING album. It’s beautiful. It’s the album that really got me deep into her.
I think Aerial might be my second favourite Kate Bush album. Surprised some don't rate it.
I know what you mean. Kate Bush records don't pop up very often in stores around here, either. However, one album that I do see with some regularity is 'The Dreaming.' Ariel is a really wonderful album and never heard myself any 'Kate Bush fan' say they do not like this album.
Gorgeous collection, gorgeous collector ❤️
It's a deal! I'll be on the lookout for one of the US covers.
I found the singles box in near mint condition just sitting at a record store for $20. What a steal!
Nice!!!! I need that Canadian version of "The Kick Inside" - looks great! Also need "The Red Shoes" on vinyl, seems to be hard to find! She has some interesting bootlegs too, not really a fan of bootlegs but you can find some interesting things.
Nice find! Thanks for the kind words, too. Sorry it took so long to reply. I don't think I ever got a notification of your comment.
Super ! Great collection !!! Thank you, it's very interesting for KB's fans.
Thanks for watching, Toby. Nice to hear from another Kate Bush fan!
I know a little. They were set to finish touring and finish the record up!
Enjoy!
EoLoVoX
Thank you!
I thought Aerial was phenomenal. Love it, too! Very much love this video, too.
TOR/Chicago
Damn, this is incredible! I really have to build up my Kate Bush vinyl collection. You've inspired me, Rob!
I'm happy to be that sort of inspiration! :)
Lionheart and Aerial are definitely my favorites. Although Hounds of Love is really great
Tuned in!
That's an absolutely gorgeous song!
Have you heard of a Brooklyn band called Vampire Weekend? If you haven't I really recommend checking them out!
Aerial
Thank you for taking the time to watch some of my videos. I hope I can keep them interesting enough that you'll watch even if they're not featuring your favorite artist! I will probably have another Kate Bush video coming soon because I've got a bunch of Kate stuff that isn't in this video. Stay tuned!
Thanks, and thanks for watching!
Where is the British copy of The Kick Inside?! The one of a painting of her in front of a kite. Also a picture disc of that same cover.
That doesn't sound pathetic at all. The only part of that I would question is the "LOL" you threw in there. I think it would be really cool to have Kate's albums framed and on your walls!
This is amazing
KB is my all time favorite artist and I'm trying to get the vinyls to get them framed and hang them in my house LOL.
I hope it doesn't sound pathetic.
it's not a rare album here as it sold quite well so I'll keep an eye out for it and we can maybe swap as I'd like a copy of the US cover which is very different to the UK version , its another of those variations which I never knew about until I saw your video
Im 10 years late but there is a Japanese, Yugoslaivian and Uruguayan cover for the kick inside
Yes indeed! At this point, I'm only missing the Uruguayan cover of the six variants.
All excellent albums. I have a real soft spot for The Dreaming, though.
Aerial is absolute perfection! We need to hunt those down who say otherwise :-p
That doesn't sound all that creepy. I think the Ninth Wave side of the record, in particular, would be a perfect way to be sent off. It's a freakin' masterpiece of musical imagery!
Good to hear from you, and thanks for the kind words.
I Love the Duett with Peter Gabriel Don't give Up
Based on what I've seen on your channel, you've been paying tribute to Kate in your own way. Nice job with all that!
Thanks Dereck!
Thanks! With your love of all things Peter Gabriel, are you into Kate Bush?
Thanks so much, Rob. I am proud of this collection, but sorely miss the other items that I had and sold. It was at a time when I tended to sell certain things to afford to buy other music. Some stuff I regret much more than others!
Have you done a video showing your entire Morrissey collection? I missed it if you did. What's it titled?
(continued)
All her albums are easy to get on vinyl now.
I'm so jelly of your collection, I just recently got The Kick Inside UK version. It's my only Kate one so far.
Such an awesome collection, Rob! I'm jealous, but in a good way ;)
-TJH
Hi Jeff.
I definitely appreciate those singles, my friend. Besides being great adds to my collection, they sparked my interest in trying to get copies of all those singles of hers that I once had.
Wait just a minute. I should be cursing you for that! (just kidding)
Thanks again!
