What a great interview! I grew up in pentecostal churches. I'm a songwriter myself & I questioned why I couldn't relate to the intense emotions in Geoff's songs. 100% about Jesus as a fascinating & inspirational character, not so much for the religion! Thankyou for being so honesty! We like honesty, we need more of it!
Geoff was the missing piece to Hillsong history I didn’t know . I’m processing his story. So many worship leaders tried to be Hillsong for their church and pastor, I saw many fail and they too lost their families. The church needs healing .. and it starts with talking about it..
This takes me back..... I attended CLC (Frank Houston's church) in Sydney in the late '70s/early '80s when I was at Uni. I remember many of people mentioned (including Geoff) - one person was my landlord. I was overseas for some time afterwards - and was shocked to hear the news re Frank Houston upon my return. I grew up in a charismatic church and attended a number of similar churches in Australia & O/S. I stopped attending church around 2000 for a variety of reasons. I would call myself 'spiritual' now - but have so many issues with 'the church' (the racism, misogyny and homophobia). In the past 7 or so years I've done a crash course on US political & religious history (so many people have left the American evangelical church in the last few years because of AEC behaviour which is now synonymous to Christian Nationalism; white supremacy and QAnon. People have spoken about the 'bastardization' of Christianity in the USA. Many former long-term Republicans refer to megachurch leaders as 'grifters'.) I also have a particular interest in biblical/ early church history and archeology - which seem to raise even more questions. Not sure where I'll end up in my beliefs.......... I'm glad I found this podcast. Interesting to hear stories from the Australian angle.
Very good interview. I resonate very much with this. Thank you for being honest and thank you for moving towards healing and gratitude. This is very powerful. wow.
As someone who was raised in Pentecostalism until I got into a REAL CHURCH that preaches the REAL GOSPEL; I will say that you can't use the character flaws of narcissistic pastors as an excuse to live in sin, or deny God's existence.
...but Geoff Bullock committed adultery! He left his wife and 5 children for another woman who is also a member of Hillsong Church. He left Hillsong Church in 1995. Although undeniably, he wrote great Christian songs..we are all imperfect. But for him to say "I'm not a Christian anymore," is just sad. Is HE NOW A CATHOLIC?

All I can say is WOW! Great interview with superb hosts.
Thanks so much. We have a great Season 3 planned.
I believe Geoff's faith has been restored and he will be putting on a concert next month for the first time in 8 years!

Not once have you mentioned JESUS.
Geoff I would love you to hook up with Jesus again. He is your best friend, healer and Saviour

I was in pentacostal churches for all of the 1990s so I found this very interesting. Thank you.
Thanks. :)
Thank you for your honesty.
You should try and get some of the old band members that have left
The original Hillsong worship team was the best!

Take your No True Scottsman fallacy to someone who will buy that nonsense.
@@agoo7581 Hmm, I think you're not getting what a no true Scotsman argument is.
Been wanting to hear this for weeks, found it. When was this recorded?
Late-2021
I feel your pain Geoff. Like me, essentially it sounds like you were in a cult.
He mistook Adrenalin for the Holy Spirit. He changed some of the words of some of his songs for grace.
No..... it was adrenaline bud.
