    Hi! I just recently bought an utricularia livida and realized that it's infested with small bugs (I suspect it's fungus gnats or thrips but there was a 1cm worm in the mix too). I really got scared bc the amount of insects was huge, the plant is small and some leaves were starting to die and getting black spots, so I left it to soil drench in a neem oil + water mix. Was this a good solution? I'm scared it's going to kill the bacteria and others that the plant eats in a normal basis :S

    • @ANTSPlantation
      @ANTSPlantation  3 года назад +6

      I find killing microorganisms in the pot does not affect the plant itself, as long as the pesticide is not harmful to the plant. Experiments show that they can survive their whole life without eating any insects.
      You can also pick off a couple of leaves and plant them as leaf cuttings in new mixtures and they will grow into new plants in a week.

    Have you any idea why my Utricularia calycifida stoped growing after germination? They grow after germination to a some milimeter size, but I can't see any development since months. All the other CP-s are growing like crazy compered to my U.

    • @ANTSPlantation
      @ANTSPlantation  3 года назад +1

      they might be dormant because they are not completely tropical, if they are still alive, you should be fine.

    How do you feed them if the bladders are underground?

    • @ANTSPlantation
      @ANTSPlantation  3 года назад +1

      usually, I do not because it is difficult, but you can feed them by scooping some pond water that is relatively pure and water them like that, the pond water will most likely contain micro-organisms that the tiny bladders can feed on.

      @@ANTSPlantation one last question, i have a U. Calycifida, Aulacomnium Palustre is a species of sphagnum moss. Can i still use it? I'm planning to change it's media since it's kinda stinky, I'm afraid if it will rot.

  • @morganschuller8779
    @morganschuller8779 2 года назад

    What sphagnum moss do you use? I've been taking a look at Amazon but I don't know which ones don't have fertilizer in them and are safe and reliable to use on my bladderwort

    • @ANTSPlantation
      @ANTSPlantation  2 года назад

      I think it will be very obvious if it has fertilizer, the package will usually have 3 big numbers at the front representing nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. For example, if it has a number 16:16:16 on the package, that means that there are fertilizers in it.

    Is the whole pot filled with only peat moss?

    • @ANTSPlantation
      @ANTSPlantation  3 года назад +1

      Yes, utrics are not picky at all in terms of soil, as long as it's sphagnum peat with no fertilizer, it will work.

    Do you know if U.sandersonii and U.livida need to undergo a dormancy period?

    • @ANTSPlantation
      @ANTSPlantation  3 года назад +3

      both of them can grow indoors all year round without a cold dormancy because the come from the subtropics, so basically dormancy is not required. Give them a lot of light then soon enough there will he a massive pot of lovely miniature orchids. Hope you find that helpful :)
