Dear Scott..Many years that i'm using C1..At the beginning, i was using only sessions (still today !) but i've an archieve catalog where my 80k photos are stored ; tagged ; ordered in many groups, projects, smart albums etc...Very practical and well organized ! Of course, i never click on "all images" or just sometimes lol.. But i would not be able to deal today with this catalog... I can look for anything i'm looking for because all my images are well taggued..My catalog (80 Go) is synchronized with my cloud and i'm able to work with it on all my computers online.. Sessions each time that i import after into this catalog..
Of course it took at time to build everything but today, it s perfect i should say !
    Bests regards / JF

Sounds like you have been using it the way I use it. As I mention at the end of the video, I think it's great for end of year organizing, but I think sessions work best for day to day work. Cheers, and thank you for leaving the comment about your successes with the catalog! Cheers! 🥂

This was a good one Scott :-) Thank you for taking time to shear. I agree to using Session instead of catalog. :-)

Great summary video on catalogues. I personally use Sessions as well, but like you said, a lot of users come from LR and end up ‘automatically’ with Catalogues. I’m not an expert on C1 but I do get the question a lot from our photography workshop attendees how to convert your workflow from Catalogue to Sessions while keeping all the changes to your images. I’ve never took the time to dive into this, but if there is a convenient way to do this, a video on this would be of great use to many people. Keep up the good work on C1 instructions.

I will make a video on that! Thank you for the comment as well, it's great hearing how others are using capture one and what areas are not as clear as they could be. Cheers! 🥂

Thanks for this. I started off using sessions, and have never felt any need to use a catalog. However, I'm wondering whether it would be possible to use one or more catalogues to give a number of logical themes on top of my sessions structure, pulling together say, all photos of a given location across my session folders.
However, I can see possible problems, most obviously that I assume that I couldn't rearrange my eesion folders on disks without messing up the catalogue?

Great tutorial but I'm wondering why you used a 'Managed' Catalog rather than a 'Reffranced' catalog. If one imports to a referenced catalog then there are options to work with EIPs and to view in Finder/Explorer. I do love sessions but at the end of the project I archive/import my sessions to a reference catalog. So many options!

I really love your content and your pace is just great for me to follow while clicking around my screen at the same time. I do wonder if you said or meant that it is not really meaningful to import images into subfolders named and organized as Y:\SomeFolder\ImageYEAR\ImageMonth-ImageDay. If one want to, it is quite easy in the import process to specify the folder by imagedata. Even if you find you have a bunch of images in one folder C1 can sort that easily. I do prefer do store in folders like this, and the use sessions + tags for the rest of categorizing. I really love to hear the arguments from a Pro with experience to avoid making silly mistakes :)

Personally I find Smart Albums feature in the User Collection very useful. With that I can automatically get a collection of images organized to my liking. For example; it allows me to immediately access files of a different file format, such as TIF, JPG etc. It also allows me to see all final edits, I call them Masters, or I can get an immediate overview if there’s any panorama or macro images in the particular collection. The search criteria for a Smart Album give me many different ways to use the filtering system.

Hi Scott - Great tutorial (I love it) - I always disliked Lightroom for its backward workflow to the common understanding of managing pictures, but like anything else, the more one uses a tool one becomes familiar.
My question here is; why (as with Collections) Capture One does not dedicate a section on the right menu for Sessions? Also, does Capture One has Face recognition similar to People in LR? Thanks!

Very lame UI. No one wants to remember.
