Living in Australia I can't see all the Messier objects but we are more than generously compensated with replacements (47 Tucanae, Omega Centauri, Eta Carinae Nebula, LMC etc...)
Just ordered my book. Thank you for helping me along this journey. I have been at this for less than a year with only about 10 Messier objects so far. 2022 is the year
Hi John, I just received your 110 Objects book for Christmas and am looking forward to sharing these sessions with my 7 year old son. I intend to do eyepiece observations and capturing the images with my wedge mounted telescope (Celestron HD8 with Starsense) mounted Nikon 7100. Thanks for your great videos and books.
Hi John I just purchased your book 110 things to see with a telescope, and can,t wait to use it with my new celestron 10'' starsense telescope. Thanks for teaching me about your love for astronomy.Clear Skies
I started Astronomy Christmas, 2022, with a 10 inch Dob and later a 102mm Celestron Omni refractor. Strictly visual, no Go To. Joined our local Astronomical Society and met Will. (Deep Sky Dude) He mentioned you, and your books. I bought the 110 Objects book, and as of Dec. 2023, I'm 59 Messier objects in! Thank you for an excellent and informative book! It is my Astronomy " bible"! Also the 102mm was because of your excellent review! Your work is appreciated!
I think this book will be high on my list of next acquisitions. I just picked up an old NexStar 102 in great shape for cheap. I took it out and was excited to see the banding of Jupiter clearly. Then I pointed it at M45, popped in the 32mm eyepiece and observed and said "wow". I was using the controls just to slew manually. I didn't bother with aligning for the goto features.
I got the book and really like it. There's only one problem: It gives pictures of what you'll see through the eyepiece, but doesn't say if it's a correct image, or the mirror image (what you'd see through a refractor), or inverted upside down (what you'd see through a dob).
Hey buddy Just ordered the book Hope it will help me . I just started star gazing from last 10 days And thanks for wonderful videos This is dr jaskaran age 43 , from punjab , India
Nice video and great observing tips! I'm going to recommend to the owner of the scope store that I work at that we carry this book in the store. (We already happily carry your other ones.). Any other books in the works?
Thanks, Jon!! Other books currently in the works are two astronomy books for the 6th grade science curriculum. The 110 Things book was such a massive undertaking, I’m guessing a sequel for this title is several years out.
I have the book, but it's difficult to tell how to locate the constellations when trying to find different objects. For instance, there isn't a clear way on how to get to Scorpio for example from the constellations we know how to hop from (e.g. Cassiopea, Ursa Minor/Major, etc). I was hoping the book would detail how this is done, but I'm still pretty unclear.
There is a big seasonal map at the beginning of each chapter that shows each of the targets and each of the constellations. Are you sure you have the right book?
I had a number of the cheap red dot finders break on me and upgraded to a red dot reflex gun sight instead. It's essentially the same thing but way higher quality. They're made out of steel and feel like they will never break.
@@billk5631 Do a search for "reflex red dot telescope". That should bring something up. There are a number of manufacturers. You'll need a bracket to elevate it. Altogether it could be $40-50.
Hi! If you have the book 110 Things to See with a Telescope, instructions are in the back. We also covered this in nearly every episode of “Explore The Universe” ruclips.net/video/lkPkIaZxRqY/видео.html . But yes, it is a good reminder that I should touch on this again. Clear skies!
Hi John, I want to buy your book "110 Things to See With a Telescope" I LIVE in tbe middle east, I was wondering if the book yearly references would work where I live?, thanks
It would be visible in any telescope assuming you have dark skies. From a city it would be invisible even with the $1,000,000 set up at my university. And 8 inch Dobsonian would be a great telescope though.
No, you can join RASC from anywhere. The Explore the Universe Certificate is free and does not require a membership. The messier certificate does require membership.
@@robertsonsid well I’m not sure if you know I’m a RUclipsr and I review stuff the author does not have to send me a loaner but normally if they want to have their products shown in different places magazines commercials televisions or even or blogs or stuff like that a lot of people send loaners and then when they’re done they do the review and then send it back I don’t know if this book is worth or better than the normal one I use nightwatch which is normally recommend for new people. Being I’ve been in hobby since 93 I don’t need an introduction starter book I was just asking if the author wants me to review his book and then write about it if I can get a loaner but I don’t think I wanna pay for the book to do a review

You also have caldwell catalogue
I would love to take a stargazing vacation in Australia! It would be hard getting my telescopes and eyepieces down there though!

Thanks Paul!!!
Such a great review!

Really like your videos, but the background music is distracting.
Sir will you please make a video on how can we apply for this RASC Certificate or what is the process.
Really like your videos sir 👍🏻

Fantastic!
Yo we have the same name!
Yup, there are a lot of us!
could u send or loan me your 110 book to view and see if i like it to promote or to review what i think compared to the night watch book?
Used ones on Amazon are only $20 and new ones don't cost much more.

Tbh, sorting things by season is a very bad idea, as they are different for the southern hemisphere.
It’s technically sorted by month. Months are the same in the Southern Hemisphere.
