  • Online seminar held on 17 February, 2021, in celebration of the archaeology of Ewan Campbell. Two guest speakers:
Dr Sharon Webb (Kilmartin Trust): Kilmartin: A Museum in the Making: This seminar celebrates Kilmartin Museum and the unique and internationally important archaeology of Kilmartin Glen, as well as highlighting Dr Campbell’s role as a Trustee and Advisor over more than 20 years.
Prof Niall Sharples (Cardiff University): When did the Outer Hebrides become Gaelic and Scottish? This talk will explore the evidence for the 13th and 14th century occupation of the Uists, as demonstrated by the recent excavations at Bornais and Cille Pheadair. The evidence suggests a gradual transformation of the economy of the island during this period with a significant evolution in the domestic architecture of the house and farm. The archaeological evidence seems to correlate with the Historical evidence for a period when Norse, Gaelic and Scottish identities were relatively fluid and negotiable?
