Mahalo for this!!! Ewww! I'm in Maui and thank goodness we've got real seafood, I think?! Too many fishermen here to pull that! Aloha from Maui!

I live by the docks here in the UK and i can definitely taste the difference between the fake stuff now. Living in NC we would only go to the docks to get fresh seafood. After getting food poisoning from grocery store crab, i would never trust it again! If you happen to live near any docks and have access, try to buy only from the local fisherman!

My father was a captain of a shrimp boat. We had the best seafood bar none. We would have the fat gulf shrimp.

Back in early 80's I was an exec chef in a seafood restaurant. We brought in by air, 3 times a week, fish gutted, packed and shipped less than 24 hours from time of boats coming in. So we knew everything was real deal. However one of the ways people were getting ripped off was in scallops. The counterfeit being used then was called 'shark punch' which is exactly what it was. So they could be large or bay. Shark cheap then and typically a by-catch. So turn it into scallops!

We have to be accountable as well.. We are too lazy and too trusting when it comes to food in the usa... We want it cheaper and faster than normal...then there's a problem and we just point fingers at everyone but ourselves

Regular sea scallops have the muscle connected to it after the tool scrapes it off the shell. If not then sting ray wings are jabbed with a hollow round pipe repeatedly then pushed out into proper bags.

A good way to make sure your fish is real is to catch it yourself.
