Not sure why you say that you cannot add dns during the initial connection setup. By using the following command you can set up your entire connection, including dns in one command without the need to edit it afterwards: nmcli con add con-name default1 type ethernet ipv4.method manual ifname eth2 ipv4.addresses 10.10.10.5/24 ipv4.gateway 10.10.10.1 ipv4.dns 10.10.10.200
The thing is whenever I changed the IP address manually. I could not ping anymore or access to the internet even the first part of this video I could not ping after making the Default up. do you have any idea what am I missing in here? Thank you
setting a subnet mask identifies the network portion of address and the host portion of the address. /24 is 255.255.255.0 every octet with 255 is a part of the netowrk portion the 0 identifies the start of the host portion of the IPV4 address. DNS is seperate address it tells the device what the address is for the DNS server or where a DNS service is running on the network.
@dextutor I see thank you. Another question about root password if you don't mind please. I'm grub menu, rd.break at the end of linux linis suppose to be followed with switch_root prompt. But it asked for Press enter for maintainance. After pressing enter it gave the same prompt and never went to switch_root . Advise please?
@@dextutor sorry, password is given only for node1. i think node2 can only be started if we change the root password. Thank you for sparing the time though.
Hey Dex i recently took the test and missed the passing score by 10 pts. They said i got 0% in Manage basic networking but not sure why do you have any idea why that could've happened?
Even i got 0% mark not sure why i got like this even though i changed the IP and connected from ssh from terminal also. I could see 2 NIC in the servers but i changed existing one IP
The reason is same. The answer to Networking question was wrong. You could not configure the network correectly. Put more effort on this topic. Cover as many scenarios as possible. Understand the key terminologies and network modification concepts. That's my suggestion
make sure you change the method to manual so the network remains once the vm is reboot - can reboot to make sure. That is where I went wrong the first time.
even though I knew how to do this but still learn some thing new from you. Thanks like your style keep it up
Glad I could help!
I learned a lot, Thank you very much
Glad to hear that!
Very helpful video sir .... Thanks
on your Q2 example. Configure the network connection, are we going to modify the existing one with the given ip, netmask and gateway?
Thank you very much, you have helped me so much!
Really helpful video. Thank you Dex!

Why did you use add? Can't you just use nmcli con up ens160(or whatever network card is) then proceed to ip settings?
@@rottenfist220nope, you have to create a connection that’s linked to the device name first. Then you can run the con up
@dextutor Sir can you please make one video for nmtui also??
Great video , Thank you!
Thank you so much
I can't thank you enough!
Great video as usual, kindly make your text (font) larger.
Not sure why you say you can not add dns addresss with nmcli con add command it works just fine.
Thanks for the correction

what is subnetmask and dns whether both are same or different. Could you please explain

@@SATCOMGoose How to set Domain name can you please tell me?
is nmtui available in the exam or should we use nmcli?
Honestly I didn't try it first hand during exam as I used nmcli.
I failed the exam today, the assignment was to set up a network connection, how do I find out which adapter to use if only a wifi connection is set?
Plz contact via mail
Hi after changing DHCP to static IP in VMware player not able to ping gateway and DNS 8.8.8.8
sir nmtui is easy know ? why you use nmcli over nmtui ? please tell sir , the reason
You can use any method you are comfortable with
Hello Sir, in the test itself, there was already a connection setup. Do we need to create a new or modify the existing one ?
As it was already there so you should modify it

It says press enter or enter password. You can enter password. You shd get command prompt

Yes, that's correct. You can access second node only after resetting the password
# nmcli connection add con-name "static" ifname “eth0” type ethernet ip4 172.25.1.10/24 gw4 172.25.1.254
# nmcli connection modify "static" ipv4.dns 172.25.250.254
# nmcli connection modify "static" connection.autoconnect yes
# nmcli connection modify "System eth0" connection.autoconnect no (Note: no for default connection)
# nmcli connection up "static"
is this right for exam?
What's the question?
Check the connection details after creating or modifying it. If everything is as per question then its correct
Hey Dex i recently took the test and missed the passing score by 10 pts. They said i got 0% in Manage basic networking but not sure why do you have any idea why that could've happened?
This means you got the answer wrong for that particular question.
@@dextutor I guess what I'm trying to ask is what could have resulted in it being wrong.

Hostname or server name is same?
Hostname is name of the machine in the network
you just can type ip a sh
Instead of remembering all the nmcli commands why don't you just show the GUI tool?
Choose whichever you are more comfortable
