Hey Everyone! I just wanted to clarify that our feelings about Mary's new medication are in no way a distrust of them coming from another country... it is simply the fact that the process of ordering and obtaining Domperidone in the mail from Canada was so different from our "normal" procedure of picking it up at the pharmacy. We absolutely trust the medication (because Mary wouldn't be taking it if we didn't). I'm sure that many of you can appreciate the uneasy feelings of having to order a medication that isn't available in your own country.

The Frey Life well no.....not everything produced in the US is hunky dory and above board. it seems rather small minded to think that other countries are behind eg Benadryl is banned in Europe!

The Frey Life You guys came across differently. I felt insulted. I get the ordering from an online pharmacy fear. But as for Canadian medication you can read up on how well it is regulated. Anyway, thanks for clarifying.

It's also that some Americans do it without their doctor's instructions, so "mail order" has a bad reputation, not Canada.

Ok I just gotta say that I totally understand their pause about the medication. It's different and for someone with chronic illness and a compromised immune system there's a lot to consider. I'd be concerned about whether I'd get ripped off ordering online, it being safe traveling, and if there's similar contamination protocol to keep my system safe. All along with concerns you get with any new meds. The medication sounds like a high end French champagne lol. Think of it as the fine wine of meds. Which makes sense cuz Mary deserves the finest available 💖

SereneChaos exactly! I get nervous even trying any new medication, especially when its one that is unusual or related to something that made it worse before.

I am noticing several comments by multiple frustrated viewers in response to what Mary said. She is basically saying that it feels sketchy getting medications from a foreign country. She is in no way trying to disrespect the medical community in Canada.

    • @maggiejean5403
      @maggiejean5403 7 лет назад +7

I also think it's mainly because it comes in the mail, in a different bottle, and it's a medication she hasn't seen before. It's much different from walking into a pharmacy to get medicine where you see the people directly responsible for giving you the right medication.

Peter you are so much like my hubby. I am suffering from 1 life threatening disease and several permanent chemo related side effects. And it makes it so hard on our everyday life. My husband has stood by me through the most difficult times. And has helped more than most spouses would. And to know that there is a younger couple that resembles us in this way, is so beautiful.

Just have to say I have "Do What You Think You Can't Do" as the lock screen on my phone. Today I put my whale shirt on and it wasn't as tight in the arms as my CF team shirt from Great Strides was. Thanks for reminding me to push myself every day, even in the gym. I had a non-scale victory today because I have trying to do what I think I can't do. Thanks, Frey Life. :) I felt like you and Mr. Whale were my encouragement.

In support of their feelings, I think I would be nervous about ordering anything that my country hasn't approved yet, regardless of where it's coming from for the simple fact that I'm not knowledgeable about the drug approval and control processes of other countries. I'm sure there are other counties that have even stricter regulations than the US, including Canada. My reservations would only be because I'm not knowledgeable. Feeling uncomfortable about something is simply that and shouldn't be construed as an insult against a country or its people.

Mary & Peter, regarding when and how I reorder Rxs. I have a 100 count, daily Hormone blocker for Breast Cancer that I order when I have filled my double week pill holder and the bottle is nearly empty. I call or go online to reorder from my health care provider. It comes in the mail and charges me my co-pay to a credit card. The other Rx I order is a bone growth pill I take weekly and it come in 3 x 4 pill pack (12weeks) My Rx mail order can take up to 10 days so I also make sure not to have less than 2 weeks of that. I've also ordered recommend meds from Amazon such as Flax Seed Oil or Fish Oil. These can also be picked up at big membership stores like Costco or my Military Commissary where I shop weekly. I'm always safe to have all my pills if I use the two week pill holders and shop or order before they are used up.

A friend of mine has had a tube fitted recently and your videos have helped me understand what she has had to go through and also help me see what support she needed! Thankyou for doing what you do! You are truly a wonderful and enlightening person! And also Thankyou peter for showing that a little help is only a step away! You are a fantastic and delight to watch! Ollie is so gorgeous! I am hopefully rescuing a poodle whose name is Jax, from a shelter that's close to me if he gets on with my gorgeous girl Bobbi! 🐶❤️

I used to have a system for medication refills, but, some things changed, so I'm going to the pharmacy four or more times per month! Some meds can be filled every 3 months, some are monthly because of the way my silly insurance pays. I usually fill my pill cases weekly. My husband is a huge help with managing when I need to get refills. We just check the bottles frequently. Kind of a screwy system. I much prefer to have all refills due at the same time.

Ollie is such a chill dog, just like my dog! For my medicine refills, I use a mail order which sends them to me every 3 months however my meds aren't all refilled at the same time for some reason so I feel like I'm always refilling something. As for the weekly containers, I try to remember to fill them but I often forget. Luckily my meds are kept in my bedroom.

One of my doctors wants me to take this because of overall poor motility but I am unsure about getting it because it is not FDA approved. I think you should also get a gastric emptying to confirm or disprove your Gastroparesis diagnosis because if you are taking all these scary medications and you haven't had the gold standard diagnostic test and you end up not having it you are taking a risk you don't need to

My wife marks on her calendar 3 or 4 days before the 1 month mark. Refilling it just a few days early means that over time she builds up a supply of spare meds for the time when there are insurance hiccups or problems getting refills or travel, etc. that interrupts our ability to get meds on time.

I was on domeperidone for a while for Gastroparesis. It worked great for me! I eventually had to stop due to some weird side effects, but the good thing about domperidone is that the side effects aren't permanent.
As for my system of refilling prescriptions. I fill my combler each week, and if I notice the bottle getting low, then I refill so I can fill them for the next week.

Mary, I have taken domperidone for almost 2 1/2 years, I take one before each meal and at bedtime. Mine comes from the U.K. I have never had a problem. I was having so much pain and problems with eating and digestion but since being on it, things are better. I have what is diabetic gastroparesis. Don't be scared. Reglan is what they have here and it has bad side effects. But this does not.

Fun fact! Donperidone is also prescribed to breastfeeding moms that are struggling to produce milk as it helps to increase their milk supply! I keep a medication list for hospital visits including dosages and times of day I take them. Just because I take soooo many medications. I designed my own form as i needed it to make it easier for hospital personnel. Also, you may want to check out a service called pill packs. They send your meds packaged for how you take them. Mornings, afternoons, eaves and nights. It may simplify things for you.

Your hospital has two doctors that can prescribe domperidone through a compassionate use protocol and NH has one doctor just over the border that can (for Children's patients too). Two compounding pharmacies right in Boston will make it for you. You have to sign a form stating you understand the heart risks ... AND that you could produce milk unintentionally (maybe for the cow/beaver?!?)

People need to calm down and stop all the hate. The Frey' s are the 2 most amazing young people ever. They don't need to show people what to expect from this horrific disease, but they do. And ordering anything from another country can and a lot of times is sketchy. They didn't say the country was, just the ordering process was, but of course people make it more than it is. You all should go watch "we are the world" music video. It reminds me that only we can change the world. The more hate you spread on here the worse life will be. The more positivity you show and compassion the better your life will be.

Here in Norway the doctor can put your meds on "reit", so you can go 3-4 times and pick up what you need, without needing too contact anyone. And we have an app, where you write what your out of, the doctor approves it, and you can pick it up at the pharmacy later that day. Its so easy! :)

I agree Canada is not scary at all. I used to order meds from Canada because they were cheaper and they shipped from their maker in India! The only draw back is like you said: a loooong lead time to receive them.

I'm from Canada! I fill my pill holder once a week. I take quite a few meds and they pretty much all finish at different times so I call in the order and it is usually ready the next day.

MY SCRIPT THOUGHT - I use the 3 month plan (Express Scripts-90 days for 60 day cost) BUT I have my regular Medes on auto refill. If it's a new med, I go one month @ a time.

I used to take domperidone. I thankfully don't need it any more. It helped a lot with no side effects when I did need it. And I had awful side effects from reglan- headaches, crippling fatigue, and depression.
I originally got my medication from a compouding pharmacy, which took a decent amount of time to drive to and was expensive. I then switched to a Canadian online pharmacy.
I live right on the Canadian boarder and go there regularly, so I am not freaked out by Canada at all. I had taken the medication before, so I wasn't bothered by the medication. But I was freaked out by the prospect of ordering it online. There have been reports of pharmacies online claiming to be Canadian and registering domains in Canada, then actually shipping medications from elsewhere. One "Canadian" pharmacy I used shipped me a box of domperidone with Chinese letting on it (predominantly). You definitely need to be cautious when doing this. I wished I could have just driven to Canada, but I would have needed to becom established with a doctor in Canada to write the prescription, which wouldn't have been easy. The online pharmacies pay doctors to re-write the foreign prescriptions to get past that technicality.

if your ever worried about a pill that your taking or wondering if ur taking the right one.......you can look up the pill identifier online and just type in the letters or numbers on the pill and the size and shape and color of the pill and it will allow you to know what ur taking.i dont think canada is sketchy just as long as you make sure to look the med up to make sure you got what you ordered

I mostly trust the synchronized refill program at my pharmacy. Sadly due to insurance I still have to make trips several times a month. Eye drops I refill by scan since the number of doses in a bottle varies.

Hi I live in Western Australia, I have Ankylosing Spondylitis , fibromyalgia, T1 Diabetes and other autoimmune diseases and have around 22 different medications each day. Some are Schedule 8 and when I'm in hospital usually a private hospital as we have private health cover I have to take my meds in which means collecting them from the pharmacy as I get mine made up in Webster packs so all my scripts etc are kept at my regular pharmacy. In an emergency my Webster go with me to the hospital so I have medication until they can get them charted. I used to do what you do Mary but unfortunately they can't be taken to the hospital so we moved to Webster packs as already this year I've had 5 hospital stays in under 6 months including 4 weeks following left knee total replacement.

I fill my cumblers ( yes I do speak Freylife) every Tuesday evening. And once a month, when I'm doing my finances I literally count the medicine day by day if I have enough for that month. If not I order new directly because it can sometimes take up to a week before a have them refilld.

MindYourFood Marleen Honcoop this is a great idea. I have recently wanted to get more of my medication on a 90-day rotation which I think would make things a whole lot easier. However when you're still in the process where you're having a change medication more often it does make it a little bit harder two predict what medications you may be on in a week let alone and a month period I really did like this idea about tying this to your monthly bill time or some other time you were sitting down to count things out great idea thank you!

Hospitalizations do mess up the routine for us, specifically enteral. Our company won't ship to us if Ada is in the hospital which makes it crazier when we get home. I'm sure it is insurance driven and no their choice.

I'm in the UK, there is 3 ways to refill our meds, either the dr puts in on repeat, which takes a few day before you can pick you perception up or you have to go direct to the doctor, they will rewrite the perception or you can do it electronically which goes direct to the pharmacy 😊 i still managed my day even suffering through a colitis flare!

I usually refill my pill organizers every month for my AM meds and weekly for my bedtime meds. I refill my AM meds monthly because I have four pill organizers one for each week. As far is refilling prescriptions at the pharmacy I have mos of my prescriptions on auto refill so the pharmacy will notify me via email when they are refilling my prescriptions. It makes life a whole lot easier.

    My refill routine:
I get automated prescriptions each month so I don't even need to go in and order them the pharmacy order them from my doctor on I think the 10th of every months but I have a few meds kept aside so I pick them up around 13th of each month.
Dosettes/pill cases/comblers: I have a 7-day 4-interval dosette chamber because I have meds different times of the day, and I use all 4 pods each day (morning, noon, evening, bed) and I have 2 of those so I set them up every other week which is nice because it's such a huge job and even though it's doubled doing them like that, I only have to face it in one go!
But yeah I keep I think 5 days' worth on hand in case there's a pharmacy issue or if I need to go to hospital because I have to take them in their packaging or the hospital won't let me take them and I would be waiting a while for the hospital pharmacy to process my prescriptions. (This is in NHS England)

My husband was on a medication that we had to order from Shoppers drug Mart. His Doctor had to consult with a Doctor in Canada who in turn submitted the prescription. Then the medication went through Customs before it could be mailed to us. I am on 13 meds. & my husband is on 5. We refill either as needed or when I get tired of being nagged by the Pharmacy. 💞🙏

Mary your question about organization of your pills and the Compblers (I think you called them thday I've never heard that word it was a first for me but hey if it's s word I'll go with it! ) is a GREAT discussion question I STRUGGLE with all the time. I just had to go buy a bigger bag to hold all of my prescription medications and my vitamin bottles. altogether presently I'm on approximately 36 pills a day and some of those I take three and four times a day period it was not until recently that I considered doing my weekly meds for two weeks at a time because I absolutely hate having to sit down and dispense my medication out for the week however once I've done it it is the biggest help to me not having to open up all of those bottles. I love that first medication dispenser that you showed that had the button and then released I need something as not easily accessible as in if it falls on the ground easily opens. however I need something that's large because in the morning presently right now I'm having to use to different containers because my vitamins are so large and many of them I have to take multiple dosages for due to malabsorption. I really like your idea of doing two weeks at a time and I think that might be a great idea to start doing that just needing to find larger dispensers the price you got was awesome! I've tried to read through as many comments as I could so late in the day or early morning as I should say. I was shocked at how some people were able to get some of their medication all on the same time I never thought about asking my Pharmacy to help make that happen to make it easier on me even if it meant just giving me a week at a time of some medications or 10 days to get me caught up. I don't know if they would do it but it never hurts to ask cuz the worst they can say is no. I guess from there refills really truly depend on your insurance and what they will or will not pay for it look like from many comments some people's will only pay 10 days out and other people's will only pay five or six days out or one day out or whatever the regulations are that's the part that kind of stinks having to go buy what insurance regulations are. right now for me when I refill mine meds weekly which usually ends up being on the weekend if I look ahead and I know that I've got enough to feed my pill dispenser but not enough to do the following week I'll try to go ahead and order the medication if it says it's to early to order I put that medication bottle aside because I know within the next couple of days will be able to order it period which I then do being on 36 different medications takes its toll financially for us and makes it hard because I usually am at the pharmacy one two three times a week sometimes a little bit more period I plan to continue to follow this to see if there's any other relay great suggestions because I am completely open to a new way if anybody has one! Keep up the great work Mary you guys are doing awesome and amazing job.

It's odd about the rx from Canada - I am from Canada and all our medications are mostly made in the USA and with some adjustments as some ingredients have not been approved. It is I believe set up with the manufacturing and packaging from the pharmaceutical companies. Not sure how the whole system between the countries really works though.

I refill my pill container on Sunday evenings since I have an AM PM pill container. I refill my meds when I get low on my meds or sometimes I will get a reminder from my pharmacy. If I know that there are no more refills then I will contact my doctor to get more meds. I get 3 refills so I don't have to worry for another 3 months. It just makes it easier on me.

Usually my meds are monthly but lately my doctor has been able to get me 3 month prescriptions. It's nice when I'm at school/living in a different state because then my mom doesn't have to mail me my meds every month. But they weren't all changed to 3 month at the same time so I still have a drug renewal almost every month. I'm fairly forgetful so I use an app (medisafe) to remind me when to refill each med. I just put in how many pills I have, how many I take each day (and set reminders to take them), and to remind me when I have a certain number of pills left. When I'm at home I have the reminder set to 7 day otherwise I have it set to like 13 days to factor in me forgetting to send the refill request and how long it takes my mom to mail it and to get to me. I haven't missed any refills in 3 years of living away from home (though I did cut it close a couple times).
