- We're here today with collector Bill Burkett--looking at his Hoffman Home & Travel Solar Radio collection. He's got all the colors and all the documentation. And one particular radio here is just amazing!
If she only had known how rare it was .lucky find and it went to the right place in Bill's fantastic collection
Cool little radio ❗️
📻🙂
Omg!!! So beautiful. I had no idea there were solar radios from so long ago. That clear one really is just astounding. My eyes would have popped out of my head too if I found anything half as cool...awesome! *Also noticed on that Sony TR-6 someone, probably original owner, scratched their social security number into it. I have been guilty of doing this to my prized things for decades although I just use the last 4 digits because I felt it was still provable ownership without giving someone my whole number.....I guess people marked expensive items for the same reasons I do.
I know you've done a couple of catalog videos already.....boy , I would love to see that Sony catalog in this episode featured in full...
Wow that is amazing. I’ll join the long line of people saying I’ve never seen that before. That is so cool. It’s stuff like this that makes transistor radios so fascinating
Very interesting video. I get excited when you start reading from catalogs and pamphlets for some reason. Ha ha. I hope we get another one like the one you did for Western Auto. Keep up the great content.
Thanks!
"Thanks Bill!"
Selenium Solar Cells...easy to forget they existed.

When I saw that Hoffman actually made a clear radio, I actually thought they made it for the penal system so that the more privileged inmates could have the right to entertain themselves during their sentences by having a little radio to listen to when the prison schedule allowed for it. However, I imagine a modern prison today would destroy AM reception since many prisons are made of concrete and brick that are both reinforced with rebar, which ends up creating a Faraday cage.
You should test it
Best video you've ever done and at the end you managed to add some climate change propaganda and ruin it.....
Thanks for the compliment. As to the "propaganda," what I stated here is absolutely true. Look it up. Exxon knew since the 1970s. The fossil fuel industry is not your friend.
@@collectornet I agree with that part,, it's "man made" climate change that's snake oil......
@@2packs4sure Well, brother, that puts you on the same side as the folks in the industry and media who have lied to us all along and have financial interests in keeping us uninformed and misinformed about it. You are echoing their position. You can trust them if you want to. I don't.
@@collectornet Wait,, lol,,,, you just made my point.
The media PROMOTES the man made climate change LIE in every way possible no matter the facts..
Are we agreeing or miscommunicating ??
@@2packs4sure Your use of "LIE" shows an unwarranted certainty on your part, which makes me question whether you are open to information that conflicts with your predetermined beliefs at all. Many in your position are not. In good faith, I'll plod on: There is a wide range of media. Most all commercial media is funded in part by the fossil fuel industry. Therefore I stated that this media has a financial interest in misinformation about climate change. What little actual climate science has gotten through the media is apparently too much for you. As it is too much for the fossil fuel industry and all others with financial interests in ignoring and denying it. That is the side you have chosen to be on. There IS another side to this question, a side uncorrupted by the financial interest of the status quo. Though you have clearly bought into the demonization of this other position, I suggest you explore it.
Great info and video UNTIL you had to throw your 2 cents worth in about climate change. Try to keep it real man.
Thanks. I'm trying to.
