It's a wonderful retreat centre. Your own room and ensuite and there is a schedule but you follow your own schedule and flow and that's great. His dharma talks are fantastic and there is so much joy.

Loved your cell joke and the great example!😂
Yes, the levels of Janna’s are basically the higher concentration levels of the breadth and insight meditation. The levels represent the equananimity & renunciation levels land contentments.

In Anguttara Nikaya sutta no. 94, I think that Buddha himself said that it is possible to develop insight without jhanas. It would be interesting to know what Bhikkhu Bodhi thinks about it.

Right, it's well established in Theravada culture that there is no need to put your time exclusively for attending jhanic, it'll anyways happen during practice.

Right, it was just his preferred method. Love that the sutras explain you can do it differently and achieve the same result

When one in these states it's impossible to think about anything. Only pure awareness remains. Then how vipassana can be applied when one can't think at all? Or maybe there is something else besides simply being pure awareness?

After they are developed like a wheel in tanden.
Just do samadhi first then vipasana rotate between the 2 like a ceaselessly wheel of dharma that cutt theough all delusion.
Good luck on the path practice daily and remember the suffering of samsara and death to motivate yourself for intensive training.
Good luck on the path to Dharma.

You can start with vipassana as well and develop samadhi along the way! Whatever is better for you. But starting with vipassana is the more safe way to actually get to the goal, especially as a lay person.

It is reflecting afterwards that you develop the insight, you do not reflect while in these jhanic states only afterwards.

The Buddha himself was a husband and father. His kid became a monk and his wife a nun if I believe, and still loved them was just not attached to his relationship to them

If you're on the path of insight, you'll come across jhana whether or not you're exclusively trying to cultivate them. There is no harm in trying to cultivate Jhana - but this Vipassana VS Jhana distinction not a thing - because both paths converge at the stage of knowledge of equanimity.

Modern research on Near Death Experience by Raymond moody, reincarnation memories by Ian Stevenson/Jim trucker and past lives regression by Brian Weiss all independently but coincidentally show that our consciousness survive death, we live many lives and our thoughts and actions matter in the hereafter.
So be kind and helpful to others, be virtuous, meditate and cultivate ourselves to higher spiritual levels. Cheers.

There are other metaphysical models of reality that do not need Reincarnation to explain the humsn condition. Read Jane Roberts Seth Material. Reincarnation is not real because time is simultaneous. All events are happening now, the past, present and the future are already a probabilities. Therfore any past self cannot be the causal link to a present one because they are being played out simultaneously.
