They have a heating tool on amazon that you can use to dry the ink faster. I use it for painting and if i use a gelly roll pen. It's an awesome tool. Your journal is gorgeous!
I'm glad to see a blackout journal setup. I decided to use the same A&O blackout journal. I can barely draw a straight line, so I'm using stickers and pre-printed trackers. Thanks for the video and your commentary on the pens. I'm using Primrosia metallics with limited success. I'm going to try the gel pens and the acrylic paint pens.
There’s nothing wrong with that! I didn’t for my set up, but for monthly spreads you will end up seeing quite a lot of inserts and washi tape for decorations!
Adding a layer of wax paper between pages can help prevent transfer as the gel pen dries down. Thanks for sharing, I've been wanting to do a reading journal spread for a while.
I love the idea of a black journal, but I was worried about what would work on the paper. After hearing about your struggles, I’m glad I didn’t go that route because I’m not patient enough and would be smudging everything! Subscribed so I can follow your journey.
I LOVE the theme you’ve created with the suns, moons and clouds in a blackout journal! I’m going to be using the Archer and Olive limited edition with blue pages for my reading journal this year, so I will be using gelly roll pens too (I feel your pain with waiting for drying time!). I read physical books and audiobooks, I don’t have a kindle so I don’t read ebooks.
this is so so gorgeous!! i absolutely love your attitude when you made mistakes. i’m setting up my first reading journal this year for 2025, and i keep reminding myself it’s okay to mess up, but it gets really frustrating for me haha. i need to adopt your calm, cool, collected attitude!! ps. go cards!! (i’m from louisville, ky and have always cheered for the cards lol!)
I have 2 spreads left to make in my reading journal. This will be my 4th reading journal although it hasn’t been 4 consecutive years. I read all 3. E books and audiobooks primarily through my library and physical books that I own😊
@ I do a books read, genre tracker, series tracker, book bingo and this year I added 2 new spreads for Caribbean books and reading around the world. I like to keep it simple
🌜 Wow! I love your aesthetic. I am in awe of your hand drawn suns and moons, and a big fan of how you layer your ephemera. Subscribed! I've been journaling for years, and my reading journal is always my favorite. I've had a blackout journal on my shelf for years and have yet to use it. Saving this video for inspiration when the time comes. 🌚
Def recommend the "Silent Patient". Great book. I've probably read 400 books last year. I stopped at 200 in April when you asked. LOL. Love the idea of a black paper journal, but the pen issue would drive me nuts. Would Sharpies work better? I love the celestial theme and your drawings are amazing. Working on setting up my reading journal now and learning Canva as I bought some files from Etsy to use.
I like this blackout journal. Gelli pens have never worked well for me either. I really like the stardust set though. I use a lot of stencils and inks in mine to create a background on the white page canvas. I like the font type you’re using. I try to draw on some pages which is fun. Those colors on black makes me think of those Lisa Frank stickers from the 80s & 90s. 😊🦄🌈⭐️
The great this about pencil, is you can erase it! Lol. Also, maybe draft ideas on Canva before working with the pencil. Alsoooo, the great thing about using a blackout journal is that it doesn't matter how many times you need to cover your mistake in black marker... As long as each coat between mistakes dries, you can loose track of how many times you re-write something 😂
I'm SUPER impressed with your bold choice, I would get so frustrated with the gel pen! It came out amazing! A bit of unsolicited advice: you talk super scripted!! Your voice is nice, but your tone is making me feel like I'm listening to a powerpoint or a presentation. Try loosening up a bit.
So beautiful! I use a black journal as well and I will have to try your moon and sun design out. Thanks!
Pretty cool. Havent seen anyone else use all black pages.
Welcome to the blckout bujo family! I look forward to seeing your spreads!
Thank you, you spark an idea within me with a black journal. Thank you again for the idea.
So cool!!!

I will definitely have to check that out! Is it just a heat gun?
And thank you so much 💛
This works??? Man I would love to be able to use the gelly roll without transfer but it seems like it still does it even after it’s dry??
This is going to be gorgeous at the end of the year! Honestly, I'm in awe because I find blackout journals to be very intimidating.
Thank you! ☺️
I have no idea why I wanted to do blackout, but I’ve had this urge to do it for a whole year so I went with it 😂
@rxnxxandxrson it's going to be incredible! I look forward to seeing more!

Definitely get a plastic ruler! 😊
Your page for 2025 is amazing!!! ❤
Thank you! I’m really excited to see how it will look at the end of the year!

Indeed! People use wax paper, parchment, baking... whatever the store is marketing it as, lol.
Great video. Love the background work area. Looks really good.

Blue would be so fun too! Good luck!
Would love to see the spreads you make with this! 🖤 Do you have a Pinterest or Instagram?

Thank you so much! I’m more of a UK / Michigan fan, but I love this comment! 💙💛♥️
Very magical
I really liked how you dealt with the 1st page issue. It turned out very nice.

Awesome! What kind of spreads do you do? I dropped a couple spreads this year because I didn’t use them much this year.

Thank you so much! I just went for it and didn’t give myself time to back out of using the blackout journal 😂
So pretty ❤

Put a piece of paper in between the pages so the pens transfer on that and your spreads stay crisp :)
My white gel pens continue to transfer all year! Even after they’re dry. I’ve used both gelly roll and pantel and they both do it. Very frustrating!!
I started spraying mine with a light coating of mod podge spray 😂
I got a black out journal and I’m scared to start. I will just scared!
@@carolgorman2324 do a bit of pre planning so you know what you’re doing before putting pen to paper! It definitely helped my nerves!
