This song introduced Dubstep to Kpop. In addition, at that time, this choreo was the most difficult in kpop for which they won awards. The live Tokyo Dome performance of this is just phenomenal...out of this world.
@@leteflondondu92 Maxstep wasn't promoted though so most people didn't noticed it like they did Everybody which would be why Shinee is created for introducing dubstep to Korea
What I love about this song is how it hypes an entire stadium full of fans when this was performed for a live concert. Imagine the energy you have when you start of a concert with this. You have to watch their concert version. I get goosebumps every time.
In "Everybody" SHINee are supposed to be toy soldiers and they get their energy and power from the fans. So in the MV the "creepy" boy or robot, or whatever you want to call him is supposed to represent the fans who are using their energy to power the SHINee members up. The boy plugs in the power which sends the electricity to the grid on the floor where the members are laying and it activates Key, which then sets off a chain reaction that proceeds to activate the rest of the members. The fans power SHINee up with their energy and that's why in the beginning they wake up from the floor and in the end they run out of energy and they disengage and fall back down to the floor to wait for the fans to come and power them back up again. All the moves and everything you see, including the way they are dressed, is supposed to remind you of how a toy soldier would look and move. At one point you see Minho gives the members an energy boost by pulling Key's pull string, winding Jonghyun's windup key, using a defibrillator to jumpstart Taemin and activating Onew by turning him on with a remote control. That is why they do that shuffle move because they are wind-up toys. As they explain in the into to the dance practice, in the middle of the performance, where they come together and create that picture in their dance, they are supposed to look like an airplane, that's why Onew spins his arms round really fast like the propeller of a plane. The plane has to do with the fact that they are soldiers and they are depicting a scene from a battle during the Korean War. And the chess board is showing how they are soldiers engaged in battle as they advance across the chess board. It's a metaphor for how life is full of a series of moves and countermoves. Similar to the scene in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets where Harry, Ron and Hermione have to play the lifesize wizards chess game to get to the Chamber of Secrets. Yet again, SHINee are trendsetters, Dubstep was a new style of music and sound when "Everybody" came out in 2013, and they introduced the genera to the Kpop industry. And combining that with popping, locking and robotics as part of the choreography was also new. (This was another one of SHINee's songs that was choreographed by Tony Testa, who has also choreographed for Michael Jackson.) And yes, 4 out of the 5 of them have major high notes in "Everybody." That is what makes SHINee so mind blowing. :D As you saw, as the main dancer Taemin was the one that they toss in the air (in order to wake him up and get him moving), and he is the one that most often does something extra in their choreography. He is known for asking choreographers to add more complicated parts for him to make the choreography more complex. As the fashionista of the group, Key was in charge of helping to design their look for this MV, so he wanted to stand out, that's why he wore the hair extensions. One thing you should know about SHINee is, they have always been known for saving their energy for where it counts the most -- for live performances and for filming MVs -- dance practices for them are literally dance practices. They are less worried about being spot on exact, and more about showing everyone the feel of the choreography and the story behind the dance. (Fun fact: SHINee was the group that released Kpop's very first dance practice video for their song "Lucifer" in 2010, and they are the reason why Kpop groups create dance practice/performance videos today.) However, in their live performances you will see just how much of an expert they really are. Seeing as they are also singing live almost 100% of the time while performing for 3+ hours, you will notice moments where they conserves their energy, only to release it full out during the most intense parts of the dance or performance. You really need to check out some of SHINee's live concert performances, it's even more impressive when you see it live. SHINee are known for their live stages and amazing vocals and dancing. There is nothing better than SHINee live. SHINee live are unmatched. They are known as CD-quality singers because they sound just as good live, if not better, than they do recorded. SHINee always sings live. The ONLY thing they are not good at is lip syncing so they avoid it at all costs, so when you hear SHINee singing 95% of the time it will be live. It's a running joke between the fans and the members that when SHINee lip syncs you can tell because it's very obvious. Now they have gained the reputation as the group that always sings live, so unless they are required to lip sync for a specific reason, SHINee will always sing live. They have trained their entire career to be able to sing live and sound flawless while performing extremely complex choreography the whole time. SHINee set the standard. That is why they are so highly respected among their peers. It is literally referred to as the SHINee standard. It's the standard all other groups strive to reach. Fun fact: Everytime they performed this song as part of a comeback stage performance their military-style outfits were a different color. They even had an aqua blue version that was the same color as their fan color. SHINee's comeback stage outfits are some of my favorite of any Kpop group, and they are different every time they perform, but they always stick to the theme of the song or album so it's fun to see every one of their performances just to see what their outfits look like each time. In your free time look up some comeback stage performances and see what I mean. "Married to the Music", "Dream Girl" and "Everybody" were some of my favorite eras.
Everybody era was really insane, for me. The song, the choreography, how it brought Daesang to SHINee. Everybody really shows SHINee vocals and dance skills. 4 out of the 5 members did the high notes, the choreo is known as one of the hardest in kpop, and it was really my favorite SHINee era💛 It’s okay if you don’t like the song, in the end it’s all about your own musical preference. Not liking a song, doesn’t mean the song was bad, it just doesn’t suit your taste. It’s fine. I never like EDM too, but suprisingly, I love Everybody😂 Waiting for the next SHINee reaction!
There's an outtake video of the start of Everybody where the boys toss Taemin with such force that he ends up on his hands and knees. True to form, Onew is looking concerned and Key is laughing his a** off. And congratulations that you now can tell them apart!! We knew you'd get there.
This choreography was crazy. I heard SM paid the most money for this choreography than any other at that point in time. They did a music show once where they had to do the whole dance double time and it was insane. KEY wasn't feeling well that day but made it through anyway. Live performance is also good as always for SHINEE.
It's a popular opinion SHINee is the best in live performances. So I really recommend you to watch a live version of this. My favourite is Tokyo Dome version.
so the concept is basically they are toy soldiers thus the intro, the dubstep, the choreo, the outfits & the closed set. dubstep was becoming trendy in the west & sm wanted to bring it to korean market & shinee wanted performance-based song so this happened & when sm wants to experiment first on an sm group they usually go for shinee to try new trends first. shinee & girlgroup T-ara were who used dubstep first & later some other artists-groups tried it when everybody & T-ara song called (sugar free) were successful. by the way, the outfits were by the designer thom browne again thanks for your reaction
@13:45 SHINee won the Grand Daesang Artist of the Year in Melon Music Awards 2013 with their album Everybody. It was a very touching moment. EXO also won Song of the Year with Growl; it was very heartwearming to see them hugging each other on stage then.
SHINee Live gigs especially in the rain is a trip worth checking out at Tokyo Dome it's amazing too and definitely this track the more you listen to it the more you remember it
You might want to watch the live performance of Everybody from Tokyo Dome. You'll be able to hear the fanchants as well which is one of my favorites too.
SHINee introed dubstep to kpop with Everybody. At that time again, everyone was doing one thing and SHINee again comes out with a shocker. Later on, you would hear a lot of dubstep complextro etc.
I love this song and it has supplanted the BSB "Everybody" in my mind which is frankly incredible given that BSB had free reign for over twenty years, but here we are. Just such a fun dance and concept. I'm not sure what's next for you, RJ (I think there are Japanese releases in 2014?) but I believe the next Korean SHINee track is View and whoa, if you weren't expecting this... be prepared to be surprised. Thanks for this yet again! You make my day.
It's one of the most difficult choreos of shinee ✨ and you should see the videos were shinee has performed 'everybody' in the rain.. And they totally smashed it ✨✨ you'll really appreciate them after seeing that.. Watching their practice video was a good thing bcoz the details in the performance can be actually seen in it more clearly.
It took me a second to really appreciate this song as well. They've always said this is one of their hardest choreos. They did an amazing 2x speed version of this on Weekly Idol (ruclips.net/video/Qbxqetha20Y/видео.html). Key was not feeling well that day and was particularly grumpy about the whole thing :)
SHINee is actually the trendsetter for dance practice,, but once they trend ittt,, they didn't do it any more. Lol. Haha.. One of a few song they did dance practice 😭 ❤️
i haven't seen Everybody mv in so long....it is one of the first kpop mv i watched along with bts ,u-kiss,suju and many more in 2014...those days are my most cherished times...
You were so shocked by the dubstep! This one is definitely better in the heat of a concert, I love the phasing in to the matrix sound effects. The styling is also impeccable, another mv that makes me miss the days of heavy eye makeup. Thanks for still appreciating the songs that aren't your favourite and staying switched on to the video if that makes sense. I love the bringing them to life part of the choreo and the legendary Onew windmill arms! You have such great songs coming up next, not sure if you're including colourful but it's very wholesome. I highly recommend the everybody in the rain stage someone linked earlier to watch in your own time. Enjoying this series!
it always happens with shinee, especially after watching the live version of the songs. their live performances really do their songs so much justice, especially those that aren't my vibe initially - once i watch a live performance of it i'm immediately sold.
The live version of their title tracks are better:) but during their early years, they've been experimenting different genres. They won a daesang for this!
You need to watch the Tokyo Dome performance of this! It's beyond amazing ✨👌 Yes, same thoughts that Everybody is a grower lol I didn't honestly like it when it was first released and EDM was NOT in kpop that time. At all. Everyone was shocked and honestly received mixed reaction. But it was also the same year they received the Artist of the Year award at a major music award show. I'm so proud of them!
I was following your SHINee journey back then but somehow skipped this, and now when I watched it, Everybody dance practice has subtitles now? what the heck? looooool. When I watched those on 2016 there was no caption at all and I need to look at another video to know what they're talking about! X'DD So glad they added subtitles for older shinee stuffs now instead of letting them unsub.
Hi, i am back. Good reaction, ty. I am so excited to start watching ur Shinee content. I recently got to watch a reaction with all the MVs. So i am halfway caught up i think. But now its relisten time. Plus, I love to hear what u think of each song. Taemin bias here and OT5. Everybody was a grower for me too. Some parts are catchy. This is a relisten. Great vocals. Very hype song. I actually am a huge fan of techno/EDM. Agree with u this was a unique concept MV. Loved the eyeliner. The white fits were cool. Taemin naked wearing the black coat was so hot. 0.0 Now I know why Jimin wore the white coat and got naked in an earlier live. Totally in honor of this song and his pal Taemin. So glad u did the dance practice too. Taemin looked so good. Love that hairstyle on him. I think they added dubstep to Kpop. Like this song was huge. Hugs. -NY USA 2019 Army💟
