I raised a house centipede from a very early stage, less than a centimeter in length up to adulthood (over an inch) for a few years. It was an awesome pet, very active and fun to watch. It eventually got sick and died, I think because I was feeding it with caught insects in the house mostly, and pesticides probably eventually built up in its body. I can’t recommend them highly enough. They are creepy to look at at first, but once you get used to seeing them they are amazing to watch, I have seen them jump and catch moths out of the air before like a cat.

I had something similar with a wolf spider (I currently live in Germany and they have a smaller species of wolf spiders here, I don’t know their proper name tho) which I catched under a drinking glass. At first I wanted to throw her out, but then I fed her with flies which I put into the freezer first, so they would hibernate and then later wake up in the spiders little box. Unfortunately she died rather soon, I think it might have had something to do with the flies I was feeding her, but she preferred them over the relatively large crickets my geckos get.

It's naturalistic enclosure so she has plenty of places to dig burrows and climb, and it's amazing just watching her make these lovely tunnels under the driftwood in her tank. She's putting the final touches on her wintering burrow because of course it must be perfect for her XD

I have had mine (2) for about 9 months and while I like them I rarely get to see them. Somehow I missed the hibernation part in my research and now am concluding that the recent drop in temperature might be sending them to their tunnels for the winter. I am going to assume that they might have started hibernating and stop feeding unless I see them actively searching for food. Thank you always for your comprehensive information!
PS. I was sprayed once and only felt a little itching and a pinkish spot between my fingers where the skin is more sensitive. It lasted a few days and healed with no further issues.

After checking on him in March/April, he didn't reappear. I thought he was molting, but in his closed burrow, he was carrying a large clutch of eggs. Curious about whether you check on them during their hibernation period. I was a professional zookeeper for 15 years and we brumated a lot of snake and lizard species for several months at a time. However, those species were all fairly easy to check up on, on a daily basis. You could open an enclosure and assess how the snake/lizard was doing. However, something that burrows is a lot more difficult to assess how it's handling the brumation/hibernation period. Also, if they're voluntarily undergoing this seasonal torpor, is it triggered by keeping them cooler later in the year, or perhaps varying photoperiod? I know with many snakes/lizards, they typically need a gradual cooling and/or change in photoperiod (gradually shorter days), in order to stimulate the brumation/torpor period.

Velo Celt Once these go down into hibernation, I try to leave them alone, although once when I thought they had been down too long, I checked abdv they had molted and were doing fine. I am not sure if it is mostly temperature or some internal mechanism that triggers hibernation in vinegaroons... my animal room does vary about 10 degrees F between summer and winter. 👍

Found one inside my house, I freaked out so I wanted to kill it but then I saw the tail was different to typical scorpions, so I Google it and turns out to be harmless so I just picked him up and put it outside. Needs some advice please, here's my experience with this alien : First of all, OH MY GOD! This alien really freaked me out, how? This is a new year, so I slept on the floor with my latex bed in the living room. I slept quite early, but then i woke up at 3 AM and found this giant monster watching me sleep from the edge near the electric socket. It tooks few minutes for me to wandering wtf is this creature? Should i kill it or just threw it, should i do it with my bare hand or with tool? Then i looked closer and take a picture (thank god it didn't spray it vinegar to me). I tought it was tarantula but realize it's not hairy enough, so is it spider with only 6 foot? Then i look closer again IT HAVE CLAWS AND TAIL or maybe a sting that looks like a whip, then suddenly this realization hit me that it has the same anatomy with scorpio! I don't wanna die, so i swept this giant alien to the front garden with my broom and hoping that my witch power can get rid of it, but then my angel heart keep it stay alive. Then i sought some information online to find what species is it, i read a feature from University of Florida who wrote that this miniature monster from a horror movie is really a fairly benign creature, and watch your video who pet this alien LOL. When i shared this experience with my dad, he also found this alien twice time in our house. So i need some suggestion, is it possible that there are more that one alien or it could be the same alien since i read that this Vinegaroon has long-live at least 7 years. Also i need to find it nest and maybe evacuate this alien to out of space-my house. Because this must be interesting to watch them in the box, but not when it's round around freely in your house-feels like alien invansion.
Thanks if you read my long story!
P.S. It is in tropic contry, Indonesia
