  • crosstrainingen... tractionerag.com How to ride rocky terrain on dirt bikes? One of 50+ free enduro training vids... Rocky slippery gullies are great for developing your balance and control of your dirt bike. We want to show you how to ride dirt bikes using enduro skills and dirt bike techniques. This cross training video tackles rocky terrain using a trials riding style to enduro bikes, Romaniacs style!
    Visit our cross training RUclips channel and subscribe here: / @crosstrainingenduro
    Trials techniques are recommended by top and extreme enduro riders like Graham Jarvis, Jonny Walker and Taddy Blasuziak for rocky terrain. Visit our site featuring Australia's 2014 Junior Endurocross Champion, Ruben Chadwick.
    So... How to ride rocks and rocky terrain on dirt bikes! Rocky ground and gullies can be extremely challenging and exhausting to ride in, but also a lot of fun - the balance and bike control you develop will transfer across to all other facets of your dirt riding. A quick note - Remember gullies are usually restricted areas on public land. We ensure only minimal traffic on the private properties we use as they tend to be environmentally sensitive areas so we focus on minimal wheelspin.
    BODY POSITIONING
    Body positioning is critical to mastering rocks. The popularity of extreme enduro, endurocross and hard enduro events has led to cross training - trials skills blended with dirt riding on enduro bikes. This style of riding also lowers your centre of gravity. Usually the moment you start to have trouble in rocky terrain it is because of incorrect body positioning! Subscribe to this RUclips channel for enduro techniques, endurocross training and dirt bike skills.
    Stay standing on the footpegs for as long as possible - Everything in extreme enduro terrain throws you off balance, so balancing lays a strong foundation for enduro skills. Trials riders can balance at a stand still for as long as they like, even with no hands on the bars. Cross training has a strong focus on being able to balance on your enduro bike, even at a stand still - this is a handy skill when you have minimal run up to your next obstacle. Balance also means you can spend more time standing on the pegs in tough terrain instead of sitting down, so you will have far more control of your dirt bike. Remember cross training applies trials techniques to your dirt riding skills.
    Rocky gullies and rocks can be tough if you have short legs, but stay focused on balancing and you'll be surprised at how little you will need to dab your feet as you apply these techniques. Any jerky responses are likely to dislodge rocks and ensure a foot is needed on the ground. Ride too slow and the rocks will start to bounce you around too much. As a rocky gully opens up, you can pick up the speed accordingly. Pick your line carefully to ensure a smooth a path as possible.
    STUCK IN A ROCKY GULLY?
    You can wear yourself out very quickly when stuck in a creek bed. Cross training applies the same principles to enduro bike and the clutch becomes an extension of your thottle at both low and high speeds.

    I broke my arm in a fall last week and will be out of the game for a couple months. I'm taking this time to brush up on my skills and learn new ones. Your vids are appreciated. This one in particular gave me a few pointers I can use in Taiwan's crazy rocky riverbeds. Good stuff!

    I found my self in one of these soft ball size rocks road a couple days ago. It was a tough ride for me, I felt I had no control of the steering. Dropped my bike of course and nearly gave myself a heart attack. My body did tighten up and yes I was worn out.. I was able to ride through it somehow. Us newbies has to start some where, I should have watched this video before heading out on my own. Lol

    My legs got absolutely worked after about 40 miles of forest service roads that had multiple sections of washouts and landmines of rocks jutting above the dirt. These roads are like Jekyll and Hyde, sometimes you could open it up and go 30 mph, and then you get to a few miles that are just brutal and you wonder how long before your bike's parts shake off. Maybe I need a better attitude because I could not wait to get back to my cabin. It stopped being fun. So I'm trying to get some tips here.

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  2 года назад +1

      It's definitely not everyone's choice, Rob. I love technical rock sections where you are down to first or second gear. But when it's faster and endless it can just be a spine jarring nightmare!

    • @RobOnBass23
      @RobOnBass23 2 года назад +1

      Today I actually found a solution to the rocky sections making my riding miserable. I call it the one cheek wonder 😂. I found that if I position one butt cheek, or just the back of the upper thigh, on the seat, it makes those rocky, bumpy sections so much more bearable. My legs got a breather, I was absorbing the impacts, and my man jewels were not getting made into pancakes. I rode 50 miles, but easily could have gone another 50. Glad I found this out, because it made a world of difference to my riding comfort!

It's totally great riding here and there are some smoother trails that help for learning but for the most part super technical. I tried to ride a fun little trail I do on my quad but there's this one hill that's not a super steep angle but all boulders, I made it halfway up but then got stopped abruptly by a big boulder and stalled so I walked the bike the rest of the way up, any tips?

      Interesting! I was riding north of Sault Ste Marie towards Searchmont - a trip I’ve done countless times on a quad and snowmobile. However I just got a ‘23 WR250F and thought I’d ride that up. Haven’t rode a dirt bike since the early 90’s lol! Felt like I was thrown to the wolves, same rock hills you’re talking about but also deep river crossings (with hidden boulders), mud, beaver dams, missing culverts with pop-outs, on and on. Literally all the challenging terrain in a lot of these videos. Only crashed once but I’m basically in hockey equipment. Super daunting and wondering if I made a mistake and should have bought a second ATV for a nice relaxing ride to the camp! Was fun though - just exhausting.

    I have been wondering, a great deal, about steering stabilization kits, on a 650 (or 250) dual sport ... I live in a region with lots of stepped rocky terrain. I also intend to explore the coastal beaches. But I will be on the highway, as well. ... So ... Given the rather high cost, I am wondering how much a stabilizer kit would reduce my fatigue and help me to maintain control, in creek-beds and rocky terrain. ...
    ANY THOUGHTS OR ADVICE ?

      @@jonellwanger7258 Yeah it is good to have a starter button but I dread the day when I have a empty battery and it does not work... There is no kickstarter and roll starting a 450 or 500 4 stroke is pretty much impossible on gravel if you do not way 200kg... (I have tried). Maybe I one day will install an aftermarket kick-start to feel safer.
      I had a 1983 KX Kwazaki 125 2 stroke modded with dampers front and back from a Suzuki RM125. It was much higher then original because of the mod but it is the only bike I have ever had that I felt confident riding fast in turns on loose gravel (think it must have because of the longer wheelbase and low angle on the forks).
