Just got rejected from UC Berkeley and Stanford. This is like a comfort video for me. It took me a long time to realize that how competitive the schools I got into isn’t what defines my intelligence or worth, and this video was a really great reminder. It will be okay, and I can’t wait to go to the University of Washington. Go dawgs! 💜💛
The American collage system is so strange to me as someone from Ireland, here we do exams at the end of our last year of school and we fill in a form to say which collages/unis and corse we want to do and depending on what grades you get you’ll other be accepted or not. That’s literally it lmao, no essays no fuss. It’s also super common to repeat your last year of school if your not happy with your grades

Oh wow, yeah that seems less stressful in comparison to America’s system lol. They make us do essays because there are so many excellent students with practically perfect grades that they have to also look at how we present our personality and what we, as a person, can contribute to their school. It’s so much work hahaha

I really needed to hear this. UT Austin was my dream school that denied me and I was crushed. It really messed with my self-esteem since I have family who has gone there and of course you Jazzy. But this video makes me feel a lot better about my self-worth. Hopefully, I also fall in love with the colleges that did accept me once I'm able to visit them :)

It’s okay! I’m also a freshman and I have some ideas but I’m not 100% sure either. But don’t stress because still have lots of time to think about it! Plus if it helps, I’m pretty sure you can enter as an undeclared major in college, so you can sign up for classes that interest you and take the time to explore different subjects :)
Honestly if you still don't know that's ok too, I'm literally a senior in hs and still deciding what career path I want to go into so don't stress too much rn :)

So I’m an 8th grader currently, and I’m honestly stressed for the next four years. The past week my parents and I have been looking at classes I can take next year and we’ve had to plan a lot farther ahead than I wanted to. I don’t understand how people put so much pressure in kids to figure out what they want to do immediately going into high school. And this is personal, because we literally have to pick out a path to go by in high school along with meeting the specific list of 23 1/2 requirements. I am a hard worker, but I also stress a lot and I’m concerned about what’s gonna happen the next four years, and that’s just high school. Anyways, I know this is a weird comment that doesn’t make any sense, but loved the video!
Girl don’t stress about it. You have time to figure out what you want to do. I wouldn’t stress to much about APs either ... maybe take the basic/easy ones, like history.

@@harpervaladie6506 Good! If you start with AP Human Geo, I recommend the “5 Steps to a 5” study book. I crammed that entire book in the last two weeks before the AP test and got a 4, haha.

@@harpervaladie6506 I didn’t do that either. Honestly, I had planned on studying the book earlier but procrastinated unfortunately. Focus on getting a good GPA your freshman and sophomore years and then you won’t feel the need to cram six AP courses junior year, like how so many other people do. Also, if your school has a dual-credit community college option, take that instead of AP. They’re so much easier and you don’t have to take an AP test to get the college credit, just pass the class. However, the college credit will only apply to colleges in your state, so that’s a bummer if you plan on going out-of-state.
Soo umm Jazzy is part Filipino and I'm pure Filipino and in my country, the curriculum is basically like junior to senior year is merged and called as senior high school here which are 2 years before college with following strands or a course we have to pick relating to our major in college. Half of middle school years in America is already high school here so I am currently in 9th grade and this is the year where our grades determine our senior high school application. We submit our grades to prestigious universities once our sophomore year ends and I had a C on one subject but here a C is failing grade C doesn't make degrees in here and I am probably going to get denied by the university of my dreams that ranks higher than Harvard. So yes here I am now once a straight A's type of student about to be devastated once I apply for my senior high and Jazzy thank you so so much this is exactly the comfort I needed.

thank you so so much for this. truly. as someone who has also been dreaming to get into USC as a film major as well as sharing similar statistics and being completely consumed by the college acceptance/rejection ideology currently, thank you for bringing light to people who don't always get into the big schools, especially on youtube. there are not enough videos on here to emphasize the other 90% of applicants from these big schools who get rejected, so thank you, especially coming from an idol such as you

USC is such a good college! I took a tour there and it was one of my dreams to get into. It’s so difficult though, and I actually decided to change my path of where I want to go to college. It shows that sometimes we find something better, but you can always come to LA sometime in the future
I love this video. I'm an international student applying to colleges in the US, and just like you I've forever had this vision of studying in the US and to anyone I have ever come across I've told them that, and Ive had this anxious feeling that if im not accepted I will feel so embarrassed.

I’m only a freshman, but thinking about college got me stressed. I don’t what classes to take and I want to be a pathologist, but I don’t know what classes I have to do for college. My dream school is MIT and I already know that’s a hard school to get in to. Thinking about AP classes and extracurriculars is a lot on me. I don’t know why I stress myself out over college. I have good grades and all but yeah. This video definitely helped me feel better.

Today we had high school presentations. They were talking about the types of aps we can take and stuff. And I’m so scared. Just a couple years ago I was in 4th grade- now I’m in 8th picking a highschool to go too. And soon college.

As a freshman, it’s okay to be nervous (I was too) but don’t stress! Just make sure you get started on assignments as soon as possible, don’t procrastinate, and try your best. Email your teachers with questions and take advantage of office hours if you need extra help. Just take things one step at a time and I promise you everything will work out in the end.

Also, just want to put it out there that community college is also a great option. My education for the last 2 years has been free and from my experience, applying to universities is much easier as a transfer student than an incoming freshman. It is a very valuable choice if finances are a concern. Plus, you'll get more personalized learning in smaller classrooms and the professors are actually there to teach you. Regardless of the grades you got in high school, it can be an incredibly valuable choice for anyone but again, this is your choice. (This is coming from a community college student in California where CCs are generally very well accepted and funded).

I'm a senior who just finished applying to college and while I already got acceptances to 2 great schools I love, I was deferred from my most recent one and it put me in a slump. This reminded me how much I love those other 2 schools and no matter what happens with the rest of my decisions I'll end up at a school I love

this really helped. today I just found out that I got rejected from the vocational-technical high school that I applied to, and that BOTH of my best friends (and really only friends) got in. I couldn't stop crying because I studied so hard for the exam, and they didn't. I had straight a's, and they didn't. I also have severe social anxiety, and there are so many of "the boyz" at my school I'm afraid I'm going to get harassed and sexualized since I'm short and curvy. I already am terrified of school in general and I have no more motivation whats so ever. i worked so hard and didn't get where I wanted to be.

I’m a first year architecture student at USC this year. during high school I felt the same way as you and wanted to go to school out of California (my home state). One of my top out of state school choices was actually University of Texas Austin, but I never applied because I missed the deadline. USC was also my dream in state school, but even though I was accepted and am attending USC, I struggle with not knowing if I chose the right school and I always wonder if I would be happier now if I would have chosen another less “prestigious” school. I just wanted to say this because my experience really made me realize that sometimes the colleges that we dream of don’t always turn out to be as amazing as we imagined. So if you get rejected from your dream school, you might not realize but you could be going to a school where you feel much happier and content with your decision
