Oh man!!! You are so lucky to own one WSA1, is so hard to pickup one here on my country. I love this things, is a very special and unique synth I test one lot f years ago!! and love this synth!!
Thanks for the video that also nicely shows how easy it is to program. I've seldom needed the manual for sound programming. The physical modeling of the WSA1 sounds at first not that exciting and shiny compared to the Yamaha synths. But the subtile intervention to the PCM sounds, the four sound layer and the plenty LFOs and realtime controlabilities makes it a very organic and unique synth. A great Pad and ambient machine!
Yes, that's right. The WSA1's modeling has it's strengths (64 voices! Something else than FM or subtractive synthesis!) and disadvantages compared to Yamaha's VL synths. It's in it's own league. The envelopes and LFOs are fast enough to create "modern" sounds (Dubstep wobble bass, yay). It's a shame it tanked so badly. I wish both Yamaha and Technics had developed their technologies a Little bit further. The analog hype is going to end some day and these machines could create very interesting, "cinematic" sounds.
I'm quite surprised by the quality of sound that this synth produces. And I have to agree, this is one of the best on-board reverbs I've ever heard on a synth.
As usual, great demo and helpful vid Alex. Must spend more time programming some evolving ambient pads from my WSA 'board + rack. The sound quality is still very impressive in comparison to what's on the market many decades later. Amazing spec. still for this PM synth. Have VL in my EX5R of course, which is great, but this PM is different in a useful way. Never combined them, thinking about it now ... maybe another weekend will be gone in a flash!! Until your next UL 😉🎹👍🍻
Floyd! I've got it! I can use the metronome ! I see what you meant about keeping time. What a need tool . It's crazy to me how you so easily know what to do with all of these tools & how understanding you are of them. Always impressed. I have no clue what driver or resonator is but the rubber band made me laugh
I didn't show each and every option in this video. If you have specific questions, please ask them in the comments. Also, I created a Facebook Group for this synth: facebook.com/groups/472237756868126/ - please join if you own one of these machines!
Very nice little insight... Thanks for that, then I can at least try something out, because I'm picking up the keyboard this week my sound craft room needs challenges!
@@mostbirnen4030 Yesn't ;-) Please keep an eye on the "Aodyo Omega". It's a fully hands-on modeling synth. The smaller model, PHI, is on the market already and can be used paraphonically.
I wish something like this or the VP-1 was released with today's tech. For the meantime, there are numerous great VST plugins (Sample Modeling), but I'd like some hardware...
I learned a lot from this video. I love the architecture of this machine, very logical and looks to be quite fast to work with. PM on this machine might not be as advanced as physical modeling from Yamaha, but at least on the VL7 and EX5 you need a editor to be able to access the hidden parameters for the drivers (VL wizard is great). This thing is also polyphonic which is why i think everyone that has an interest in PM should have one of these alongside their VL1, EX5 or VL7 . I also think this machine sound surprisingly warm and its nice to hear that it implements good verbs for the time. Very detailed and high quality upload Floyd, like always. Very informative. Cheers!
It's amazing how versatile this is, considering how much you were able to modulate such a basic waveform! Those effects are also fantastic.

This is the video i have been waiting for!

I still have the Technics WSA1 full keyboard version its a nice synth. Nice video.
Thanks for watching! Yes, it's a cool synth which can produce some rather unique sounds.

Wanted to have a look at the group, but it's private ;-;

Congrats on you new synth! Some great sounds on this board. (My favourite was the "Do-wop" voice. You'll recognize it when you hear it ;-)
What a nice musicmachine! - Technics is quality - i still have my KN800, tucked away at the moment, will never sell it! - Levi in sweden
Couldn't agree more! This synthesizer was ahead of it's time.
@@mr_floydst And now time has moved on, but there are still no deeper synths!!

Great machine. Not as rare as the VP1, but it's up there. Physical modeling is the way to go.

Roland's Supernatural instruments is the closes we are going to get these days
