    Cool channel, nice bus. I'm rebuilding a 1958 GMC 4104 myself and what a ton of work it is.

      Thanks! I had a couple of cheaply priced 4104 and they both needed a lot. I shifted my preference to a 40' bus and spent the money on a "decent" MCI......it is still a ton of work.

      Yeah I started my YT channel to document the rebuild of my bus over a year ago, it’s kind of a pain, but now glad I did.
      This is my second bus but first 4104.
      I went with 4104 because of the 50’s body lines and simplicity of mechanicals and overall easy to work on. And I prefer the short bus with no tag axels to deal with.
      Big buses are nice but wasn’t necessary in my case... retired, wife and two dogs.
      Keep them videos coming and maybe see ya out on the road one day. 👍🏼

      @@busnutbiker cool, I will take a look at your videos tonight. 4104 is iconic. I love the lines and style. There is so much more things I've done with vehicles in the past I wish I could have documented. It's nice to get it recorded and look at years from now. Show my family and friends that live far away what I'm doing. There are plenty more videos to come as I have more projects than lifetime.

    I think you are correct about the hoses being original stock. May as well just plan to redo all of them.

      yeah, I will be. Either fix 'em now or make a video about fixing them on the road side.

      @@davefroman4700 Some. Before the MCI I had a couple 4104 with the 6-71. I will be doing some engine work on this MC-7 due to the smoke. Also, I plan to up grade from 4 speed to 5.

    It was nice seeing that you have hose building capabilities. I watch another channel and they have to get them built and for the amount of replacing they do, I feel like it’s a great profit opportunity to be able to make and sell your own custom hoses versus installing others products, plus you never have to worry if it will be in stock. What would you estimate your initial investment was to be able to build your own hoses?

      Initially about $2000 for a used machine and some common fittings and a little bit of hose. I've been adding for 15 years to have the largest selection in my area. We make hoses several times a day for walk-in people. Having a good stock and being able to accommodate the customer in minutes rather than days makes everyone happy....especially when a machine is stuck in the street or holding up a job. I wasn't planning on making it a secondary business when bought the equipment. It was because of my bucket truck that needed so many hoses I felt the machine would pay for itself in savings of paying retail for hoses at the local Napa. In time I kept adding different fitting styles that no other local place would stock. By referral more and more people came in. The other thing is self educating on the fittings and selling the proper assembly. A few local places that have equipment to make hoses for themselves come here because they don't have staff that is willing to make the hose or they don't have the particular fitting they need. Overall, the hose assembly has to be right as injury or damage is a liability.

    We used to use ATF for power steering back 50 to 60 years ago. But somewhere along the line, manufacturers decided power steering systems needed. lubricants that ATF does not provide for the seals in the system.
    I would use power steering fluid for longevity of the system.
    This is the first time I've seen you, and I've been watching Bus Grease Monkey for quite a while. I think he is in Tennessee.
    Where are you?

      Hi, thanks for watching. I'm in North Adams, Massachusetts. I jump around between projects which is the scattered part of the name. Hope to get back to some bus stuff soon. It's a bunch cheaper for me to use atf since I keep it in bulk.

    If you see that a factory installation hose appears a bit too short (companies try to scrimp and save everywhere), will you take it upon yourself to add a bit more length to your satisfaction?

    • @scatteredrustyprojects
      @scatteredrustyprojects  Год назад

      I was planning to add a couple inches to the hose. Then, by the time I got over to the hose crimping machine I had other things on my mind and the routine of making hoses to exact length set in. The hose wasn't "too" short. It would have ran more parallel with the other hose if it were a little longer. Which would have looked a bit more organized.

    I have a 88 MCI that the connector the line hooks to is leaking. It has a spring in it looks like to regulate pressure. Where could I locate that fitting. It's what the hose connects to after what you just did

    Sets the bus on fire, with the torch, because he refuses to buy proper line-wrenches.

    • @scatteredrustyprojects
      @scatteredrustyprojects  Год назад +1

      It would have needed heat with a line wrench. It wasn't because the wrench was going to slip, the heat reduced the possibility of snapping off the male fitting. Thanks for watching!
