Bruce Lee wrote the draft for this story in the 70s,he was planning to play Ah Sahm..but was rejected by TV stations and they took his idea and made 'Kung Fu' starring David Carradine instead..and now his daughter alongside other producers made this show adding a few other characters and storylines
It’s a bummer we’ll never get to see Bruce Lee play Ah Sahm, I’m glad that his daughter carried on his work and we get to see this story because it’s definitely been worth the hype ! I think it’s an interesting perspective that other kung fu flicks haven’t done yet .
Yes it's a part of American history many people don't know about, there's 3 seasons so far and I think they should continue because it's the only show telling this type of story, Bruce was thinking ahead of the times when he already had the idea in the 70s
overall i really enjoy that these kinds if stories get a chance to be told and I'm loving it so far ..BUT BRUCE LEE AS AH-SAHM??? no brainer wouldve been that much better lol@@haneby1114
Yes the main lead was on bullet train, he became more well known after this show and landed him some roles in a big movies
Love this show! Oh, BTW, Geisha are Japanese, and this is a story about Chinese American immigrants in the 1800’s. *thumbs up*
All 3 seasons now on Netflix ✊️✊️✊️
The language thing, yes the show's mainly for the English speaking audience and also most of the actors are non Cantonese speakers, so they have them speaking in modern American English like they are translating for the viewers. Different to the white characters that speaks in their own accents during the period
I think it’s a really interesting way of capturing the times. Different cultures all starting to melt the pot.
I grew up with Taishanese and Cantonese, up until I hit the school system and forgot most of it. Cantonese is harder to learn than even Mandarin because there’s more tones. The cast is from all over-like Andrew Koji, the lead, is British with mixed Japanese heritage. It would be really hard for all the actors to pull off an entirely Cantonese language dialogue, as they already tried really hard but kinda had not so great accents (some of them) for the short bits they already did.
you are in for a wild ride.
I can tell already!
This is a great show
I learn more Asian American history watching this than going through years of US public school system where they only teach White American history and some Black history. Because of that, Asians have always been seem as the perpetual foreigner in the US, a different kind of struggle and adversity that they face in compare to Black Americans. Their struggle is constantly being gas lighted and brushed off by both white and black natives in the US due to being omitted from American history in the US education system. While the majority of population understand and recognize slavery and systematic discrimination against black people, the discrimination and attacks on Asian people are often neglected and ignored. But despite that, most of them are able to succeed due to their emphasis on education, discipline, and family. I think that is something we can all learn from.
This show is important because its a gold mine for asian american actors in terms of great interesting roles that are not stereotypical asian roles.
The show is too good to be canceled. It needs a season 4. What a shame.
Well, not into these types of shows, so will not be joining you on this journey. Enjoy, and I will continue to support and comment on other shows you post👍🏽
