    That was a small cubera. When they are juveniles it can be hard to tell the difference. Cubera and Mangroves have different tooth patches on the roof of their mouthes. The cubera have a small triangular tooth patch. The mangroves have an arrow shaped tooth patch. Another thing to look for is those big teeth in a small fish. Cuberas have much larger teeth. Love your videos! Keep it up!

    Ellis - there is a Key West guy (Keywest Waterman on youtube )- he does a lot of Videos on Fishing/Diving around the mangroves - out in the ocean ect - It might give you some insight to the Keys fishing - He catches bait and goes into the Mangroves and catches all these snappers - whats good is he talks about the current and winds and type of rig he is using

    Wow, watching you hacking through that mangrove labyrinth, I thought you were going to come upon Dr. Livingston at any moment....I imagine there was some serious editing out of baits that got hung on mangrove roots, the way that current was running under them. Great adventure, fun fishing. Thanks, as always.

    I had a thought regarding your previous video on the OT ePDL. Since you might be on the Hobie for a while, let me ask before I forget. The motor on the ePDL is either 24 or 36 volt for extra speed, so what happens when you hit something solid under water with that at a reasonably high speed? Is there some type of breakaway or is it a broken or bent shaft?

    Groupers are beautiful ! What does Forrest Gump say? Shrimping ain't easy, or something. Winter fishing in the keys is even harder. Given 5 days you might get lucky with weather and tides to do well on 2 days. But it is so pretty in the keys. Keep them coming.

    I've caught a few smaller Cuberas. Look like dark mangroves. Difference in the teeth. Cuberas have larger lower teeth for the same size mangrove. Great video.

  • @jeffmigda1540
    @jeffmigda1540 9 месяцев назад +1

    Definitely a cubrera on the one. They have heavier more defined vertical stripes than the mangroves. You had a schoolmaster also that you released. Most of the time the juvenile cubrera has a disproportionately large head compared to its body.

    The only time I got a birds nest (in 43 years) with a spinning reel was because the spool was overfilled. A common mistake.
    A minimum distance to leave at the edge of the spool is about 1/4 inch
