That was a small cubera. When they are juveniles it can be hard to tell the difference. Cubera and Mangroves have different tooth patches on the roof of their mouthes. The cubera have a small triangular tooth patch. The mangroves have an arrow shaped tooth patch. Another thing to look for is those big teeth in a small fish. Cuberas have much larger teeth. Love your videos! Keep it up!
And the stripes
Dude, it’s just a School master. I’ve caught hundreds of Cuberra from 8” to 40” and that’s not one. Just saying.
Yep, definitely a cubera, very tiny one, pretty cool, you don’t see ones that size all too often.
I've never seen a Cubera on the east coast.
@@GoAskYourDadnot a schoolmaster, schoolmasters have yellow in them and that does not have yellow. It was a cubera but still legal cause it was over 12
Any day on the water is better than a day stuck inside or in the office! Great vid as always. Stay safe and God Bless
Excellent....tight lines in Lower Mat !
Nice video, you turned around a tough situation. Life gave you lemons and you made Ceviche! Well played.
It was instructive watching you land the Snappers. They really do Snap ... and have the teeth to back it up.
I believe on some fish you would look for differences where the back of the lip ends under the eye.
Weather down here in the Lower Keys has been windy, rainy, and relatively cold. You did great!
For a good ceviche back up in NC try using whiting, I've done it a couple times and loved it
The keys are truly a paradise for snapper fishing
def a cubera
Good watch, thanks!
First time seeing somebody else use those bobby garlands for mangroves! those are money for finnicky fish on dock lights
Ellis - there is a Key West guy (Keywest Waterman on youtube )- he does a lot of Videos on Fishing/Diving around the mangroves - out in the ocean ect - It might give you some insight to the Keys fishing - He catches bait and goes into the Mangroves and catches all these snappers - whats good is he talks about the current and winds and type of rig he is using
Would be cool to see them do a vid together
Woohoo Key West Baby! Making our way down in the RV! Going spend a couple months down there for winter. Hopefully lays down for you!
Thanks for the video. You have some great fishing videos. Tight lines!
Best Keys twitch bait?
Mirro0-Lure Catch 2000.....
Any color....
Made in Tampa for 80 years.
Florida just has the best fishing. Freshwater and salt. So jealous.
That emerald green water though 👍
Rockin' the 'stache. Like I advised last year, Elias, you need to stay in south Florida full time.😊❤
Wow, watching you hacking through that mangrove labyrinth, I thought you were going to come upon Dr. Livingston at any moment....I imagine there was some serious editing out of baits that got hung on mangrove roots, the way that current was running under them. Great adventure, fun fishing. Thanks, as always.
Thanks Elias. You were looking more like me this trip.
Looks like it may be a bit chilly down there. At least you got some good fish in the boat. Can't wait to see the next installment.
Thank you.
Enjoy the fish variety, and hopefully by now, pleasant weather! I'm jealous AF, the jetty was frigid and sporty this morning, lol. Catch em all!
Yea man the fishing is tough down there now with all the different fronts coming in and water temps going down. It still beats the hell outta working!😎 Tight lines brotha.🎣
Just popping in to say that is an awesome hoddy!
I’ve never had problems with my Penns fishing in a lot of wind
Aloha. Same, unless they’re over spooled.
you definitely kept your cool a lot more than i would’ve. Windy days are very frustrating especially after driving 15 hours to get to the keys
I'm going to the Everglades with a kayak in less than two weeks. All these fishing videos are getting me hyped up.
Nice action, thanks ! But you don’t have enough “stuff” on you kayak. You need two “power poles” on the back. Lol
Elias content always great!
Really enjoying these keys videos, earned a sub 👍🏼
just did some tog ceviche up here. I'd much rather be there! tight lines!!
Nice! Merry Christmas to you guys, Elias.
Brother those Goliath grouper are a pretty fish. Too bad you can’t keep a few of those while they are small
Let me know if you are around the Southwest Florida area, I'll put you on fish. Great video.
HELL YEA ELIAS! I LOVE THESE KEY VIDEOS!
The first and only snook Ive ever caught was on a crappie jig with 4lb rest mono lol was all i had at the moment
Boy you need to hook up with creek fishing adventures, he was/is still down there somewhere
Try some Canals(if they've got any in the Keys) for Peacock Bass & Snake Heads
At 2:37 you dropped a hook.hard way to find it usually is the worst way.😂
Thanks for the video.👍
Thanks for all of the entertainment and lessons you have given this year. Hope you and yours have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Like the new kayak.
merry Christmas from Philippines bro...
Welcome to the Keys! The snapper you caught is a School Master. I live on the water in Key Largo, fish 5 days a week and have caught thousands of them. Don’t listen to anyone that says otherwise, they just don’t know. Believe me, you’ll know when you hook a Cuberra! 😂
try some cast netting and chumming in deeper water where there is some current if things get really tough - you are pretty used to FL fishing at this point and you should suss things out #florida man #monsters
My biggest pinfish was on on topwater up here in Topsail this past spring. First thing in the morning and it fought like a decent trout...pretty disappointing but hilarious at the same time. 😂
Definitely a cubera snapper! Man when you coming to Mississippi to get on some fish?
I'm glad to see you in here lol. Been watching this dude for years
I was wondering when you were heading back down……. I didn’t get my invite tho??? Must have got lost in the mail!!! lol.
Little different from bowfin , stripers and catfish lol
Bait shop I work in Saint Augustine fl we sell 4.50 a dozen for shrimp
lol looks like you went to florida like me. i'm just seeing in laws , not fishing , unfortunately.....
Great video fish down there all the time around the No Name bridge. Question on your setup, your rod holders on your cooler did you drill them through the cooler and screw them in place? Silicone sealant?
Just screw them on and put a lock nut
South florida inshore fishing is really live bait only if you really want success.
Niiice, fishing in paradise
I had a thought regarding your previous video on the OT ePDL. Since you might be on the Hobie for a while, let me ask before I forget. The motor on the ePDL is either 24 or 36 volt for extra speed, so what happens when you hit something solid under water with that at a reasonably high speed? Is there some type of breakaway or is it a broken or bent shaft?
It’ll break at the locking mechanism. Easy fix
@@EliasVFishing Cool! On the water fix?
How do you like that Titan zipperless cooler? I’m in the market for a new kayak cooler for next year. Have the same Outback as you. Any review/ thoughts welcome thx.
what blank is your 7'2 custom?
You still using your teeth on your line after you already chipped a tooth in the past 😂😂
Any alligator encounters 🤦🏼♂️
I think that “cubera” was really a schoolmaster. They look very much like a Mangrove but I am 99% sure that was a Schoolmaster as I have caught hundreds of them and you really cant tell the difference until they get much bigger.😎🤘
Ya bummer weather, not a bad catch given what you had to fish in.
At least you can enjoy the warmer weather.
Thanks for the video.
Cheers
Tight quarters! Work out!
Groupers are beautiful ! What does Forrest Gump say? Shrimping ain't easy, or something. Winter fishing in the keys is even harder. Given 5 days you might get lucky with weather and tides to do well on 2 days. But it is so pretty in the keys. Keep them coming.
I've caught a few smaller Cuberas. Look like dark mangroves. Difference in the teeth. Cuberas have larger lower teeth for the same size mangrove. Great video.
Definitely a cubrera on the one. They have heavier more defined vertical stripes than the mangroves. You had a schoolmaster also that you released. Most of the time the juvenile cubrera has a disproportionately large head compared to its body.
The only time I got a birds nest (in 43 years) with a spinning reel was because the spool was overfilled. A common mistake.
A minimum distance to leave at the edge of the spool is about 1/4 inch
